March 10, 201510 yr http://www.rapwave.net/2015/03/06/kendrick...m-release-date/ Rumoured to be called "How to Pimp a Butterfly: 12 Homies At White House", album artwork included.
March 11, 201510 yr Author http://cdn2.pitchfork.com/news/58808/d47a5880.jpg Official version of the album cover apparently. The title seems to be confirmed as 'To Pimp A Butterfly'. I'm not crazy about the title, not that it matters a whole lot as long as the music delivers.
March 12, 201510 yr I know it shouldn't matter if the music is good, but what a horrendous/totally wtf title. No one is going to take that seriously all, and i can't even begin to think about what it means for the album's subject matter. After the wonderful title that came before it too. The cover is very good though, so that's something.

It's probably a pun on "To Kill A Mockingbird", which is probably suggesting a lot of racial themes (if "The Blacker The Berry" is anything to go by). I do agree it sounds a bit off though. Related news, the tracklisting is revealed! Wesley’s Theory For Free? (Interlude) King Kunta 4 Institutionalized These Walls U Alright For Sale? (Interlude) Momma Hood Politics How Much A Dollar Cost Complexion The Blacker The Berry You Ain’t Gotta Lie (Momma Said) i Mortal Man Assuming that's all in order, extended "i" is a good minute and a half longer than the single.
March 12, 201510 yr Author Oh good, there was a 'leaked' tracklist floating around which was also full of awful titles, thankfully fake like usual with supposedly leaked tracklists! I get what the title is trying to do but it just doesn't sound good.
March 13, 201510 yr http://www.rapwave.net/2015/03/13/kendrick-lamar-king-kunta/ New song 'King Kunta'. Wasn't sure on 1st listen but by the 3rd listen I am absolutely hooked. It is brilliant.
March 14, 201510 yr 'King Kunta' is MONSTROUS. In the best possible way. Completely zany and out-there but all the better for it. My favourite from this era easily. HIIPE increases...
March 15, 201510 yr ^ Agreed, King Kunta is my clear favourite so far too. HUGE. Actually love the album artwork and title!

March 16, 201510 yr 'These Walls' IS AMAZING. Best off the album for me so far, but I've only given it a brief listen so far. I'll put it on loud at home later. Bit confused about the semi-early release though. Surely if this was released last week it would have gone to number 1? (Maybe 2 if James Bay's releasing is then, too). I don't know why he beyonce'd his release and it's only on iTunes and Spotify - no other download or streaming sites.
March 17, 201510 yr The album is #1 in the mids today. Quite a sensationally brilliant achievement for him, one that i did not see coming. I can hopefully listen to it tonight, but until then i have 'King Kunta' on repeat. Obsessed and hoping for a lot more to come on the album.
March 17, 201510 yr This album is stunning. The end of 'These Walls' into 'u' He always manages to make his albums flow so effortlessly and so far this is doing just that too. Still a few tracks to go, but only the 'For Sale (interlude)' i am not too keen on. A lot of highlights, particularly: 'How Much A Dollar Cost', 'These Walls', 'Wesley's Theory' and of course 'King Kunta'. He has impressed me and i was so nervous about this return (especially after 'i' failed to wow me). Turned it around and then some. Don't think there's anything quite as HUGE as the likes of 'Bitch, Don't Kill My Vibe' or 'Swimming Pools (Drank)' but a very solid follow-up. It'd be cruel to compare to the last album though which is pretty much untouchable.
March 17, 201510 yr Though the one thing it does match 'good kid, m.A.A.d city' in is the sheer wealth of things he is covering, thematically. Lyrically it's huge and tackles so many issues in a very powerful and profound way. This was pretty obvious from the album cover and title but the songs match that and accompany it well. 'The Blacker the Berry' makes perfect sense in the context of the album and really comes alive.
March 17, 201510 yr I feel like this album is just so different from his previous it would be unfair to compare them, he has come out with a completely different vision and aims with this. I am bogged down with uni work this week so not really had too much time to really let this sink in but from what I have heard it is just brilliant. The jazz and neo-soul influences make it sound classic in feel and it is superb lyrically throughout - no-one knows good storytelling quite like Kendrick. It really is the hip-hop version of D'Angelo's superb 'Black Messiah' that he dropped in December isn't it? Also, I think 'King Kunta' could become my favourite Kendrick track to date. It is just perfection.

March 18, 201510 yr Okay, just had a first listen. Incredible stuff. It is so melodic and has a nice flow to it. Drake, Lil Wayne et al albums look like amateurs work compared to this really. Such a layered and interesting record. 'u'!!! *.*
