Maybe Katy Perry was too poppy (or her choice of tracks were) and the hip-hop interlude was a welcome jolt for the audience :???:

That's exactly it. Katy performed most of her biggest hits which have all sold huge, huge amounts, so of course Missy's were going to have a bigger boost. When the Black Eyed Peas performed in 2011, 'Where Is The Love' reached the iTunes top 10 for the same reason, a very well-known hit from when iTunes was in its infancy.

 

Skylar Grey at #1 omg :wub: I'm pretty sure 'I Need A Doctor' was #1 this day four years ago!
