More notably, Aston Merrygold spent the whole week top 8 on iTunes, but despite previously mentioned TV promo, actually falls out of the top 10 this week! It is probably most worth mentioning this week that thanks to some rather convenient prodding (like say an iTunes discount that lasted for exactly 7 days), Calvin Harris (and Disciples) has his first EVER #1 hit :jameela: I am told that the last time a Scottish artist had a #1 single, it was The Proclaimers in 1989. If you include the album chart, it was possibly the partially Scottish Garbage in 2001 as most recent. On the unfortunate side of things, "Wings" takes a bit of a tumble from #1 to #9, one spot lower than One Direction fell, and the biggest drop from #1 since Reece Mastin dropped to #12 in 2012. "Locked Away" does what none of the "V" singles could do for Adam and makes the top 5, and Jeremih does something Lady Gaga hasn't done in the last 4 years and gets his first top 10 hit. Also Nico & Vinz have two #2 singles without a #1 now. As a final note, "Run Away With Me" debuts at #100, but largely thanks to good streaming as it had been around #120 for most of the week on iTunes. It is quite possibly the only song that has only charted because of streaming. On the album chart, Disturbed get their 2nd #1 album (which could have easily been their 3rd, but their last album just came up short on the same week "Teenage Dream" was released). Despite having a top 5 hit last time and having no top 100 hits this time, Rob Thomas matches the debut position of #4 of his last album. Next week, The Weeknd should almost certainly be #1, but it's difficult to say whether Halsey or Foals will be the runner up. On the singles chart it looks like Justin Bieber will be scoring his first #1 hit, with Nelly & R. City rather close behind, and depending on what happens during the VMAs, perhaps Taylor Swift is amongst it too.
August 30, 20159 yr Good for Carly's Run Away With Me charting as her album is off to a disappointing start. If there is any silver lining, E-MO-TION is getting great reviews from critics. Wings falling down was expected as it fell quickly out of Top 5 on iTunes and she didn't really do much on streaming. At least Sony can celebrate with Calvin as the new champion. Also very good news for Vance Joy and Taylor. We'll see how much Taylor's Wildest Dream will make an impact for next week's chart when the video will premiere tomorrow. August 30, 20159 yr Author It was a bit unlucky for Wings though. Lost Frequencies at #4 was less than 1000 sales ahead of Nelly at #10, so she could have easily stayed lodged in the top 5. Without physical sales, perhaps she could have been #12 though :o

With absolute ease as well, holding a huge lead on sales & streaming. R. City move up to #2 which means it's the 3rd time Adam Levine has provided vocals for a #2 hit this decade. Still yet to have another #1 single since "She Will Be Loved" though. "Wildest Dreams" gets Taylor Swift her 4th top 5 hit from "1989" (as "Style" peaked at #8 and the rest at #1), and streaming again prevents Vance Joy from entering the top 5 though he does match the peak set by "Riptide"(!) This year's season of The Voice seems to have impacted the chart moreso than last year, so this time the winner's single gets all the way to #25, while the runner up is at #52 (and with a drastic drop from #36 on the digital chart). The two most unexpected hitmakers to get #1 hits this year, Omi & LunchMoney Lewis, both simultaneously score second top 50 hits this week. On the album chart, The Weeknd unsurprisingly gets his first ever #1 in Australia. As Justin Bieber is also #1, it's the first time we've had Canadians at #1 on both charts since 2007 when Avril Lavigne & Michael Buble did so. He may possibly hold on for a second week though iTunes suggests that Troye Sivan's new album chart eligible EP may pose a threat. Halsey scores a #2 album despite never making the singles chart before, and Foals manage a #3 peak to follow up 2013's surprise #1 "Holy Fire". While not as severe as Bars & Melody in the UK chart, Short Stack tumble from #5 to #55 this week. Next week along with Troye, you can expect N.W.A. to climb higher as the biopic finally is in theatres here. There's even a chance they could have some singles chart entries. September 5, 20159 yr What an excellent top 3, can't believe The Fix is doing so well there but flopping in US & UK!
September 6, 20159 yr Wonderful for Taylor to enter Top 5 with Wildest Dreams!! I'm confused why she still has no streaming points. Do ARIA not count Apple Music data? Her catalogue is there and she must have at least some points there. Number 25 is quite an achievement for Ellie, I think, considering how Anja didn't really do well last year. However, the season finale ratings was down AGAIN from last year. At least X Factor's winning single manages a high debut, even if their subsequent singles don't perform and/or are not marketed very well. Delta is falling rather quickly after her #1 peak and quite shocked that Calvin is experiencing a similar fate this week. I was expecting Calvin to stay in Top 5. Jessie J's single tanked but I'm not sure if it was even an intended single release to begin with. Impressed at Fifth Harmony's longevity in Australia when in the UK, Worth It had a shorter stay than I expected. Excellent debut for Macklemore & Ryan Lewis after their VMA performance. No doubt Downtown's streaming points will grow even bigger. Vance Joy is achieving great success with his new single but his stay in Top 10 might be short lived since his streaming points are not making much impact, as of now. September 6, 20159 yr Author I don't think ARIA have updated the streaming participaters since they started the Streaming Chart about 3 years ago, at least they haven't updated it on their site. The top 10 seems to be very competitive right now. After just getting to #3 this week, Nelly is looking like he could potentially fall to #9 (or lower) next week. :o Incidentally, Wings is holding on better now around the #15 mark on iTunes, which is really weird since The Voice is over and radio have rather quickly dumped the song. Edited September 6, 20159 yr by Dircadirca
September 6, 20159 yr I'm quite shocked only five streaming providers are listed there. They really need to update their list. Even France's SNEP has more participating streaming companies and they still haven't merged their singles chart (SNEP admitted that they are currently not as experienced and have technical means as OCC/BPI to make the move   )!! Although, I do find it interesting that JB HIFI has a streaming service. Justin will likely get a second week at #1. The rest of the Top 10 are insanely close!! So, I am expecting more moving around next week. I am loving how more Warner songs are making competitive entries and longevities now. It's nice to see. Edited September 6, 20159 yr by buzz_person

He'll face competition next week from Macklemore & Ryan Lewis who are fast catching up with what could potentially be their 4th #1 single "Downtown" now at #2. The release of the clean version helps Nico & Vinz rebound to #5. For whatever reason, "Straight Outta Compton" is nowhere to be found on the singles chart but nonetheless "F**k Tha Police" finds its way into the top 50 :D N.W.A. also have two albums in the top 10 and there are a multitude of solo albums littered about the chart as well. Simply Red are currently touring the country hence the two debuts. Perhaps of most interest on the album chart this week though is that Troye Sivan makes history with the first ever EP to go #1 on the album chart. To my knowledge, Skrillex's "Bangarang" peaking at #4 was previously the highest. Next week, Bring Me The Horizon will likely score their 3rd consecutive #1 album.
September 13, 20159 yr Good for Troye for reaching #1 on an EP. Interesting to see how the #1 album is divided between states. For example, Troye is at the top in NSW while Iron Maiden is #1 in Victoria. I am hoping Macklemore can achieve #1 for Downtown. It might not quite be next week but the week after is possible. Interesting how Demi's Cool For The Summer didn't do much in Australia, having only peaked at #20. Very much a contrast in NZ, where it entered Top 10 this week at number 9 and is certified Gold. Looks like Taylor FINALLY has some streaming points after all from Apple at 570 points, which should be over 100k streams? I don't know what ARIA's ratio of streaming:sales are now.
September 13, 20159 yr Author Yeah I forgot to mention the Apple Music inclusion partly because I didn't have a confirmation on it, but would explain why nearly all of Taylor Swift's singles are back up. The streaming ratio makes for an interesting question, because I always had it around 1:180, but this week a lot of things are rather lower than expected, especially considering the inclusion of a new service should make them go higher, so perhaps they've been adjusted down. At a guess I'd say the ratio is something like 1:250 but hard to tell when there's no Apple Music data available as readily as Spotify's. I do think Cool For The Summer did quite well here considering that prior to it, her only top 40 hits here were Let It Go, Somebody To You & Up.

And one of them was other version of the most omnipresent song of the year, and two of them were features from another artist

Next week could go either way with Macklemore & Ryan Lewis now having a sales advantage. Because Australia is Australia, P!nk's new theme for Ellen nearly debuts in the top 10 (#7 on digital sales even). Jess Glynne has just about matched the peak of "Hold My Hand" with her current single, and "The Hills" finally hits the top 20, so now every chart entry from The Weeknd has done so. After getting back into the charts thanks to a Voice cover earlier this year...London Grammar got covered on X Factor and are back again  Same case for Sia's 2010 track "My Love" which is now charting for the first time ever. Though it's rather fresh compared to Peter Allen's "I Still Call Australia Home" which is now charting due to a mini-series about him. Bring Me The Horizon have a dubious chart record that surprisingly still holds 5 years later. In 2010, they set the current record for lowest #1 sales when "There Is A Hell Believe Me I've Seen It, There Is A Heaven Let's Keep It A Secret" debuted at #1 with just 3,600 sales. They couldn't back it up with longevity either as it was out of the top 100 in about a month. Their next album though with much more crossover appeal, debuted with much stronger sales and I believe went gold. So now despite having no #1 albums anywhere else (and not even being from Australia), Bring Me The Horizon claim their 3rd consecutive #1 here, and the 3rd biggest 1st week sales of 2015 (behind Dr. Dre & Florence + The Machine). The album that beat them to the top in the UK is merely #39 here. Speaking of differences with the UK Charts, Nero's 2nd album has been a bit of a comedown from their 2011 success, but in Australia, it lands only 1 place behind the #12 peak of "Welcome Reality". Latest Voice winner Ellie Drennan may have had a bit more single success, but her album lands 3 places lower than last year's winner. Also as it stands, Jarryd James joins an unlucky standing of having gotten as high as #2 on both singles & albums. Edited September 20, 20159 yr by Dircadirca

Its podium is being threatened though, "Downtown" finally ousted it on iTunes and Warner were desperate enough to even discount it after this happened. So Macklemore & Ryan Lewis have quite a lead so far, but Justin is set to perform on X Factor later this week so that might be enough to put him back on top. Meanwhile, Omi miraculously has a 2nd top 10 hit, and Naughty Boy/Fetty Wap get their 2nd top 50 hits to date. On the album chart, Lana Del Rey getting a 3rd #1 puts her level with Taylor Swift, Michael Buble & Bring Me The Horizon (what a group) and only behind One Direction for most #1 albums this decade. Thanks to the timing of release, David Gilmour charts higher than the Pink Floyd album last year did. Though her profile isn't quite as high here as in the UK, Jess Glynne manages a top 10 album, and Ryan Adams bests his 2014 effort by 1 place to get a new chart height of #9 with his Taylor Swift covers album.

Robin Schulz takes "Sugar" up to #3 this week, which is the same peak as Baby Bash's "Suga Suga" (which is heavily sampled) reached 11 years ago. Jessica Mauboy's new single wasn't off to a great start, but slot in an X Factor performance and a physical release, and hey presto it's in the top 10. It's her 9th top 10 hit, and remarkably all 9 have peaked in a different position from #1 through to #9. Sam Smith doesn't have quite the same pull as Adele, with "Writing's On The Wall" barely limping into the top 50 compared to "Skyfall"'s #5 debut. On the album chart it's all about Parkway Drive who despite being perhaps the biggest name in the local hardcore scene, have never had a #1 album until now. They've generally had great sales too, but their last two albums came up short against Eminem & Taylor Swift respectively. More improvements to be seen as Disclosure & Chvrches peaked at #5 and #13 in 2013, but this time both are in the top 3. Next week looks to be a close competition between the long running triple j Like A Version series, and the new album from local legends Cold Chisel.
October 4, 20159 yr Yaaasssss Jess, that's a higher peak than her past two leads (#21 for To The End Of The Earth, #19 for Get 'Em Girls), I just hope it doesn't bomb down the chart now but at least that's a much better result than having the same peak as the 6th single from Beautiful!
