He certainly can although at one point it looked like Nadal would breeze past 17 so never speak too soon.

How do people think Great Britain will do against Australia in the Davis Cup semi-final this weekend?

World No 300 Dan Evans has been picked as the second player to play for Great Britain in the singles for their Davis Cup semi-final with Australia. He was 772nd back in May. Bit of a risk there.

Congratulations to Great Britain on reaching their first Davis Cup final since 1975. This time five years ago they were in danger of being relegated to the lowest tier of the Davis Cup groups.

20 wins out of the last 21 matches for Johanna Konta with victory over Azarenka as Azarenka retired with a injury in their match when it was 6-4 1-0 up to Konta. Good to see Konta has maintained this form since her performance at the US Open.

Konta is now in the quarter finals against Venus Williams after winning 6-3 3-6 7-5 against world number 2 Simona Halep. Konta was 5-1 down in the final set so it was an amazing come back. In winning she has become the first Brit to beat a player ranked number 2 in the world since Sue Barker (yes that's right she was a sports woman) beat Tracy Austin back in 1981. I really think Konta could reach a grand slam semi final or even final next year. She will overtake Heather Watson as British number 1 when the new rankings are released next week.
I am absolutely loving Venus this tournament, the two toughest player in her Draw has been eliminated by the glorious Konta and US Open finalist Vinci. Konta absolutely coming out of nowhere. The other side of the draw is o..k.

Terrific win indeed for Konta. I really thought she had lost it when she was 5-1 down in the final set. If she keeps maintaining that standard of form then she could climb higher up the rankings and possibly get seeded for the Australian Open.

Roger Federer has been defeated by Spaniard world number 70 Albert Ramos-Vinolas in the second round of the Shanghai Masters.

The defending champion lost 7-6 (7-4) 2-6 6-3 to a player who has no career title and has only won three matches in total at the Grand Slam tournaments.

And once again Nick Kygrios in the news for the wrong reasons:

Nick Kyrgios was handed a $1,500 (£984) fine on Tuesday for a foul-mouthed outburst at the Shanghai Masters, AFP has reported.

Kyrgios was fined for an audible obscenity during his win over Andreas Haider-Maurer, when he was also heard calling the tournament a "circus" and complained about the ball kids.

He received his second code violation in a week when he used an obscenity to describe the surface at the Shanghai venue on Monday.

Kyrgios was fined and received a suspended ban for making a sexual comment about Stanislas Wawrinka's girlfriend during their match at the Rogers Cup in Canada in August.

I don't think Kyrgios will improve in the short run. He deserves now a one-year-ban

He should be banned now, he's being warned many times about this. He's got potential so why doesn't he learn to keep quiet?

Andy Murray comfortably through to the semi-finals of the Shanghai Masters with a 6-1 6-3 win over Tomas Berdych. He will play Djokovic in the semi-finals. Could be again bye bye Murray when he plays against Djokovic.

There are rumours that Serena Williams is pregnant and that's why she doesn't participate at the year-end championship, but to be honest, I don't think it's true.

But who knows, would be a shock :o

Yes, that would definitely be a shock if Serena was pregnant. Probably just rumours.

Aga's End of year WTA Championship is shocking, albeit pleasing!

f*** you Maria :cheer:

Venus wins in Zhuhai the Elite Trophy. What a yearend for her, up to #7 in the rankings :o :D

I believe that she's won the most titles this year since 2008. Fantastic from Venus Williams. Never write her off.

THRILLED for her.

A seed in the top 8 for Aus Open could really open up a wonderful draw for her. She totally deserves it. :cheer:
