52. PJ & DUNCAN (648,000) 8 HITS

http://assets3.capitalfm.com/2013/12/pj-and-duncan-4-1364221065-view-1.jpg

“PJ MY EYES MAN I CANNAE SEE” god bless “Byker Grove”- A friendship formed on the series blossomed into a pop career when Ant & Dec left the show to embark on a music career and for some reason decided to keep their on screen names for the purpose. Well it worked as they accumulated six top 20 hits before they both entered their 20s and decided that Ant & Dec was now a more appropriate popstar name.

51.GIRLS ALOUD (662,000) 2 HITS

http://www.popjustice.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/03/Girls-Aloud-Pressefotos-2003.jpg

It was Cole’s 20th Birthday in June 2003 that curtailed their sales here and only their first 2 hits are eligible but then of course one of them is “Sound Of The Underground” so that’s not a bad thing I suppose. They had the advantage of clearly having the better song and the production team of Xenomania behind them who delivered up a string of hits for them as they became the biggest selling girl group of the noughties.

I really like some of Debbie Gibson's songs, Out Of The Blue, Shake Your Love and Red Hot they were amazing and even Electric Youth is pure cheesy fun and also Lost In Your Eyes is stunning and smashed in the USA making #1 but only charted at #34 in the UK.

50.ETERNAL (670,000) 5 HITS

http://i3.cdnds.net/13/32/618x373/eternal.jpg

Eternal were conceived as a UK version of En Vogue and were the first UK girl group to hit it big since Bananarama in the 80s, as it turned out they ended up just as big despite an ever decreasing band membership. For the purposes of this thread however they were a teen act up to Louise Nurding’s (as was) 20th birthday in November 1994 by which time they well on their way to a million.

49. SONIA (670,000) 6 HITS

http://userserve-ak.last.fm/serve/252/45898845.png

Badgering Pete Waterman every Saturday morning when he presented a radio show in Liverpool Sonia finally got her reward when he asked her to sing live on the show and he signed her up, a few months later and her first single “You’ll Never Stop Me Loving You” was No 1. They helmed her first album producing 5 top 20 hits (a record for a UK female artist at the time) before she was dropped by her label in 1990. She did return to the charts a year later but the S/A/W magic touch had started to desert them and it was hardly a success.

48. TAYLOR SWIFT (693,000) 4 HITS

http://cdn2.crushable.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/01/iphotos180807-taylor-swift-visits-t.jpg

Swift’s first album made her into a country star but it was her second album (and a much more pop enthused effort) that started the UK hits ticking over with “Love Story” even making a No 2, a peak which has yet to be bettered, though it has been matched. Oddly her third album failed to produce any big singles here but she’s since pulled it all back to be one of the biggest popstars in the UK at present.

QUEEN TAYLOR :cheer: :cheer:

That is who I meant by expecting to be in the countdown as a recent act on the first page

Love story is an absolute gem and you belong with me is one of the best songs ever :heart And the first album is life

Still gutted mine wasn't the smash hit it should have been from the 3rd album

Discovered at 11 by Dallas Austin she was signed up and had produced her first album at 15 which gave her some top 40 hits but nothing charted for more than 3 weeks. It was her duet with Brandy in 1998 on “The Boy Is Mine” that is responsible for her position here, and truth be told, for her follow up “The First Night” also making the top 10, but in 1999 the hits dried up after a cover of Eternal’s “Angel Of Mine” failed to go top 50 though it was a US No 1.

46.ANOTHER LEVEL (715,000) 3 HITS

http://i.ytimg.com/vi/yqpV7Vhk51E/hqdefault.jpg

A teen group for their first year Another Level were a boyband with their eye on the urban market with a view to be more credible and less pop than the likes of Five etc. Dane Bowers and the other ones (let’s be honest few remember their names) released only 8 singles all of which made the top 11 including their cover of “Freak Me” which was their only No 1 single before Bowers went off to date Jordan and the group fell apart. By way of trivia Alan Sugar’s daughter is married to one of the members of the group (Mark Baron)- who knew!

45. ELLA EYRE (744,000) 3 HITS

http://news.bbcimg.co.uk/media/images/72108000/jpg/_72108686_ella_eyre_highres1_2_sss.jpg

Eyre is another graduate from the BRIT school who made good on the charts by being featured on the Rudimental track “Waiting All Night” which provides her with a good 85% of the sales here. Celebrating her 20th Birthday in April 2014 means she won’t add to this tally for this thread but a promising solo career is in the offing after winning a MOBO and a support slot on Olly Murs’ tour this year.

Eternal = Loved them back in the day, so underrated and several great tunes Oh Baby I, Save Our Love, Power Of A Woman, I Am Blessed.

Sonia = YES so brilliant, really loved her first album "You'll Never Stop Me From Loving You" was brilliant one of my alltime faves also Can't Forget You, Listen To Your Heart and Counting Every Minute.

Another Level = Really liked Alone No More and Freak Me, they had such potential but never got passed the 2nd album

Some good acts starting to appear here - I seem to remember really liking Debbie Gibson, not necessarily her tunes though.

Also finding it hard to believe that the way Ant and Dec are dressed up there was ever considered normal, but I think it was. Must cast my mind back to some of the ridiculous get-ups I was wearing in the mid-90s. I do remember huge orange, purple and lime green shirts were in for some reason - maybe due to Ant's trailblazing.

44.S CLUB JUNIORS/ S CLUB 8 (785,000) 7 HITS

http://en.kidsmusic.info/photo/s-club-juniors/s-club-juniors-977117f1-653f-447b-a195-c3df20e33f8f.jpg

Naturally these lot are here enabling Frankie and Rochelle to be the only individuals to appear on this list in two different groups. They formed after they were picked on the TV show “S Club Search” as a spin off from their already famous pop elders and intended only as a support act for S Club’s tour that year. They proved so popular they got a record deal and a hat-trick of No 2 hits followed but after the second album underperformed and their final single peaked outside the top 10 their chart days were over.....for most of them anyway.

43.ALEXIS JORDAN (810,000) 4 HITS

http://thatgrapejuice.net/wp-content/uploads/2013/12/alexis-jordan-that-grape-juice.png

This list is littered with manufactured pop and reality TV popstars and I for one am not complaining! Jordan was one of the contestants on “America’s Got Talent” and her subsequent youtube videos caught the attention of a Stargate who got her in to record some tracks and they introduced her to Jay Z and the rest is history.

SOOOO many guilty pleasures of mine in this latest update!

Debbie Gibson  I still listen to 'Shake Your Love', 'Electric Youth' and 'We Could Be Together', such great pop songs, and even more amazing considering that she wrote and produced most of her hits herself at the age of 18. Name me a female popstar of that age that could do that these days!

Eternal - 'Just A Step From Heaven' is one of my all time favourite pop songs. 'Oh Baby I' is gorgeous too :)

Sonia - quite liked her too, even though she was just another S/A/W puppet!

PJ & Duncan - big guilty pleasure of mine back in the day. WHAT is going on with that shirt Dec is wearing in the pic though?

Looking forward to the rest of this countdown :D

42.JORDIN SPARKS (854,000) 5 HITS

http://images.teamsugar.com/files/upl1/2/20652/47_2008/79e58531e2f9dc97_jordan-sparks-american-music-awards.jpg

From “America’s Got Talent” to “American Idol”, and back in 2007 the winner of that was Jordin Sparks who was within a year in our top 10 on the Chris Brown duet “No Air”. She'’s been the opening act for the likes of Britney Spears and the Jonas Brothers before she deserted the music scene in 2010 for films and the stage but a return is promised very soon.

Not listened to her album yet, but Alexis Jordan's singles were all brilliant. That's a much bigger sales total that i would have thought for her though :o if you have a sales breakdown of the singles, could you possibly share? Interested to see how much 'Happiness' has sold in particular.

Jordan Sparks is hit and miss for me. ADORE most of her singles (particularly 'S.O.S...') but never really got into 'No Air' - found it far too shouty~
