May 4, 20205 yr Author I have spent the past few weeks rewatching a lot of the lesser known titles from this list. How good is 'Bolt'! It's such an inspired story with one of the most lovable lead characters in the cannon. 'The Wild' remains one of the worst in the entire list though. What a misstep! Also updated the OP so it's an up-to-date list again :D
May 4, 20205 yr Never seen many of those mid-2000s run such as The Wild or Home on the Range. What a bad period for the studio! I do want to check out Meet the Robinsons though. I saw Ralph Breaks the Internet for the first time a few weeks ago. I really love the first, and it was nice to go back into the world but it didn’t quite live up to it. There was some inspired ideas in there (LOVED the pop-ups) and I wasn’t expecting some Grand Theft Auto ripoff in a Disney film (!) but I’m scared all the pop culture references may become dated in time.
May 4, 20205 yr Fun and Fancy Free is my favourite of the more obscure films, one of my faves growing up! And this is a Disney nerd nitpick :P but The Wild isn't considered as one of the official animated classics as it wasn't produced by Walt Disney Animation Studios (rather by the live-action department and some non-Disney studios), but Winnie the Pooh (2011) is. So we have the American list. With the second Pooh Movie and Dinosaur but no The Wild... Oh missed this  Generally I'd go by the USA, IIRC The Wild is included here for advertising reasons at the time.
May 4, 20205 yr I wish they explored the world of Disney more with Ralph Breaks The Internet! :( The very best scenes all included the Disney Princesses! Also, when they first step into Disney and we see all the characters from Marvel, Star Wars and other Disney Classics... --- Bolt was better than I remembered it being when I rewatched it recently too. So cute.

The Wild IS in the UK & Winnie the Pooh isn't! :o The Wild is in the huge Disney Animated Classics box set they officially released just 2 years ago aha (and it has the shiny Disney Classics (with a number on the spine) slipcase for the DVD and Blu-Ray!) I believe Winnie The Pooh is for US! --- Edit: Just seen that you are now aware! LMAO

It features on the recent Special Edition collections in the UK where each film is numbered according to release. I have the whole collection and it's definitely part of the series!
May 4, 20205 yr So is The Wild part of the collection in the UK, but not the USA then? That seems to be what I can find online.
May 4, 20205 yr Author So is The Wild part of the collection in the UK, but not the USA then? That seems to be what I can find online. I believe so yes! And the US has 'Winnie the Pooh' which the UK doesn't.
May 4, 20205 yr I believe so yes! And the US has 'Winnie the Pooh' which the UK doesn't. Ah yeah that's what I must have seen before then  Honestly I think their list is better, as technically The Wild isn't made by the same studio as the others and Winnie is. (plus The Wild is pretty grim and Winnie is one of their best!). I think I'd consider Dinosaur as part of it as well in my 'head canon'.
May 4, 20205 yr I saw 'Dinosaur' for the first time the other month (yes, I've been watching Disney+) Incredibly boring. I appreciate it was a step forward in CGI animation or whatever, but the story is SO thin and it felt really hollow and just empty. Wasn't for me </3
May 4, 20205 yr I watched it a few years ago and can't really remember much about it! I'll probably give it another go. It's definitely far inferior to the puppet sitcom "Dinosaurs"
May 4, 20205 yr Did I really not post in this thread back then? :o It was the exact same year I did my Masters dissertation on Disney (it's more important than it sounds!11), and for 'background research' so to speak, I watched all of these (albeit a few gaps as I was going off the US version with Winnie the Pooh, so I'm yet to see The Wild, I'm not in any hurry given it looked like a really bad rip off of Madagascar, of which I'm certainly too old for now!) Snow White to Bambi are obviously all classics and are still very distinct and daring given their target market, I didn't watch the package films as they weren't really 'films' so to speak. Cinderella up until The Jungle Book was mainly great, if not QUITE as perfect as some see it, there some real all time favourites like 101 Dalmatians and The Jungle Book, but the likes of Cinderella and Peter Pan especially I've never got the fuss with. In terms of the 'dark age' from the Aristocats until Oliver and Company, I do have a soft spot for some of them (those two I was quite the fan of cos animals) but there certainly was a noticeable drop in quality. The Little Mermaid to The Emperor's New Groove are generally all amazing (Pocahontas and Hercules aside) and I have some all time favourites in there. Atlantis to Meet the Robinsons (with the notable exception of Lilo and Stitch) were all quite the challenge to get through, Chicken Little in particular is a vile film :puke: Bolt and Princess and the Frog were a nice segway to better quality content and then Tangled up until Moana is a deserved new renaissance, where they started to try new things with established formulas and are all still excellent films. I've just recently watched the Wreck in Ralph and Frozen sequels and while they were both certainly entertaining and nice to look at, they are SUCH blatant cash cows and it's so clear not as much creativity went into them and a lot of the more intelligent subtexts and subversion of the originals have gone, the latter in particular was disappointing as that was the main focus of my studies. I just hope more original content is planned, I refuse to believe they are this creatively bankrupt!

May 4, 20205 yr Author Honestly from the list of those you haven't seen, only 'Basil The Great Mouse Detective' is one tha I enjoy. It's based on Sherlock - idk if you're a fan of that? 'Fantasia' is a pretty remarkable bit of cinema, but it's not really one I return to or really enjoy. 'Home on the Range' is cute enough and as mentioned above 'The Wild' is one of the worst by miles.
May 4, 20205 yr I can't recommend Fun and Fancy Free enough! It's a shame (but understandable) how few have seen it. There's even a scene of ventriloquism from Edgar Bergen!
May 4, 20205 yr 'Fun And Fancy Free' is my favourite of the short story type movies. Both 'Fantasia' movies are dull. Only the Sorcerer's Apprentice (?) stuff in the first one is any good! 'Basil The Great Mouse Detective' is cute enough but 'Rescuers Down Under' is slightly better than the first for me! But I think nostalgia plays into that one as that's the one I remember seeing when I was a kid. I ranked and ordered my faves. Here is my bottom 10 (I'll post full list later) 48. The Many Adventures Of Winnie the Pooh 49. The Adventures of Ichabod & Mr Toad 50. Fantasia 51. Home On The Range 52. Make Mine Music 53. Melody Time 54. The Wild 55. Fantasia 2000 56. The Three Caballeros 57. Saludos Amigos Definitely the ones I wouldn't go back to out of choice (unless I planned to watch them all in order again at some point in the future) All the others were at least cute. Yes, I didn't "hate" 'Chicken Little' lol.
May 4, 20205 yr Author I also don't hate Chicken Little  I think Little himself is so adorable and such a misfit. Yes it's ridiculous and stupid at many times but it's a bit of a laugh too at times. I don't think it stands the test of time as many others, nor is it as universal (many of the films are watchable and enjoyable for all ages) but it's not totally a lost cause imo!
May 4, 20205 yr I highly recommend giving AniMat's current Animation Lookback series on WDAS a watch! It's very in depth and interesting, he's currently up to just before the Renaissance. gvgdHj8uYho
May 4, 20205 yr Fantasia ranked that low is just...I can't  I just found Chicken Little really mean spirited. I get that's the point at first as they don't believe him, but they well overdid it and Little's dad is an AWFUL person who turns into a hero way too quick and I wasn't ready to forgive him!
