Let’s do it one last time.

#3 Blue

Average Score: 8.93

So close to getting that 9 average, 'Blue' started off this rate with some rather average scores, but its scores got stronger and stronger as the rate went on. I think it's fair to say that this is an easy standout, and probably the most instant of the post-album tracks. 'Blue' is a bouncy and ironically upbeat sounding track, that flaunts all the best aspects of Marina as a musician. The retro-synth production and infectious chorus make this one of Froot's finest, and I'm glad it's managed to get as high as #3, against some stiff competition, nonetheless.

Two songs left. 'I'm a Ruin' and 'Froot'. Which is victorious?
I'd LOVE Froot to walk this but I think it'll be a close one as I'm A Ruin is proving popular! (I like both tracks just to clarify!)

Perfect Top 2!

'Savages' really was one of the first to hit me. It's message is so strong as well and (mostly) unlike anything you normally hear in a pop song.

'Blue' is another one of my favourites too.

#2 Froot

Average Score: 9.2

I feel as though 'Froot' was released a long while back now and I somehow assumed it had been forgotten and overshadowed, since. Thankfully, I was wrong, as it storms in with a 9.2 average score at #2. Marina says 'Froot' took her the longest time to write, and it is obvious why, as it is a rather complex song, with about 117 hooks and choruses - but she made it work. For me, it only really took about two listens to become fully hooked on 'Froot'. Upon buying the album a few weeks back, my love for this track grew even more, as it works even better when heard with the rest of the album. Lyrically, this is fantastic, with tongue-in-cheek fruit metaphors a-plenty.

#1 I'm A Ruin

Average Score: 9.59

And to no surprise, 'I'm a Ruin' comes in at #1 with the highest scores, just 0.41 off a 10 average. I was one of many who gifted their 11 to this track. 'I'm a Ruin', has an unusual message, like a a few songs on the album it's a break up song told from the point of view of the breakie, rather than the broken. However, it's not a Taylor Swift or Kelly Clarkson 'I can breathe for the first time, and we're never ever getting back together' type anthem, it's a more harrowing and conflicted song, something I find refreshingly relatable. I genuinely believe this song would have done really well commercially had it been supported, as it's the perfect balance of quirky and accessible as well as having a great tempo, ranging somewhere between being a ballad and a dance number. <3

Thanks to everyone that got involved. <3
Yaaassss, correct winner for sure. Gorgeous song lyrically, musically, thematically... Everything <3 Thanks for doing this Joe, it's been great to read your commentaries too!
Okay I haven't seen the rest of the votes after mine but I have the strangest feeling that "I'm A Ruin" is gonna win...
BAM WHAT
Great winner. I think she really could have extended the end of it for another minute - that final part is one of best parts of the album for me. There's echos of Tori in the yeah-hays.
I'm a Ruin winning would be pretty ridiculous. Definitely overrated.

COME ON BLUE / FORGET

The only thing I don't like about I'm A Ruin (and Blue for that matter) is that it fades out at the end. I always feel like it's a cop out when songs do that.

Agreed!

Thanks for hosting this. I'm a Ruin & Froot are favourites, so I'm glad they ended up top 2.

You know, whatever happened, this was an incredible top 5 and it does (at this point in time) correspond with my Froot top 5 so I'm very happy with that. Surprised that Savages got as high as 4th, I thought it had more haters than just Kath. So pleased that's not the case though. *.*

Very good winner in I'm A Ruin, and thanks Joe for running this to clearly considerable interest! :o

Thanks for a smoothy run rate, Joe and great commentary. I'm glad so many people took part.

As I said, the perfect Top 2 and I would have been happy with either winning! 'Froot' is a glorious upbeat, as you said filled with hooks, and its such a shame it was never pushed as a single. Same with 'I'm a Ruin' which is another song that is fairly unique in it's subject matter.

Thanks for doing this Joe
