So "Uptown Funk" is now two weeks away from equalling "One Sweet Day"'s record with "See You Again", the top Digital Gainer, looks set to join it in the top top/three in the coming weeks. Nothing interesting at all it seems other than that.
Does See You Again have a shot at number 1 next week? The song has been dominating iTunes and continuously ahead of the number two song by 70%. It's also number two on Spotify.

Observations*:

  • "Uptown Funk!" ties with six other singles for the second-longest #1 run of all time.
  • "See You Again" becomes Wiz Khalifa's sixth top-ten hit and Charlie Puth's first**, and leaps 41 spots to #1 on Digital Songs. Three soundtrack singles now crowd the top ten: "LMLYD", "Earned It", and "See You Again".
  • Rihanna earns her 35th top-20 hit with "BBHMM"; Meghan Trainor earns her third top-40 with "Dear Future Husband".

Re: "See You Again"'s chances for #1, I think it has a good chance. "Uptown Funk!"'s sales have been deteriorating for a while and the video for "SYA" should give it a boost streaming-wise. Depends on how fast "Uptown Funk!" slips at airplay but I think it'll happen sooner rather than later. It's a shame in a way; I'd been long sick of "Uptown Funk!" but after it became a legitimate contender for the all-time record I started rooting for it again :o I hope it can at least hang on at #1 for another week and break the now 7-way tie for second-place, then make way for "See You Again" the week after.

I reckon See You Again will get to #1 next week, but it wouldn't necessarily be over for Uptown Funk since SYA needs to maintain some crazy high sales (though it's doing really well with that already!)

Nice to see Lean On is close on the bubbling under chart, DJ Snake to get 3 debuts in 3 weeks? :D

It's interesting to see that ten years ago, Mariah's We Belong Together was number 1 for 14 weeks!!! That was a huge comeback for her!!!

Uptown Funk's number one reign has been amazing. That being said, it's a shame that Ellie's Love Me Like You Do will most likely miss out on the top spot at this stage.

I have a feeling that Funk will slide to #3 next week, and either Wiz Khalifa (most likely) or Maroon 5 will be Nr.1. It will be tight though.

Problem for Maroon 5 is that as big as Sugar is, Uptown Funk is still reasonably ahead of it in sales/airplay/streaming, so it might not ever be able to overtake it.

OK, I wasn't right with Maroon 5, but we at least have a new Nr.1!!!! :))) :cheer: :cheer: :cheer:

I'm kind of getting behind the Carly song right now. I'm really enjoying the "little song that maybe can but we're not quite sure yet" trajectory it's taking considering I assume they were expecting a more instant explosion. I do hope it goes somewhere.
Call Me Maybe had a strong debut at #38 (impressive for an artist's first hit here) and still took 16 weeks to reach #1. Would love to see something similar for I Really Like You!
