I can see 'Shine' selling the album a lot. I think it might be one of those where it benefits the album much more than the actual single (even though the single will still be a smash).

I've never expected Years & Years to be massive album sellers to be honest. I'll be first in line to buy it of course!

Out on a walk in this glorious weather yesterday and this came on Radio 2 again. Really wouldn't mind a jot if this was number one next week. Is the album supposed to be any good?

Well, 9 of the tracks are already out and most of them are fantastic, so yeah!

I really want this to be number 1, as I find it so much better and slightly less generic than 'King', I saw them perform it at Glastonbury and it was such a moment, it's looking to be a big hit either way. Just a shame Capital haven't really played it despite playlisting it a few weeks back.

It's all about the chorus and the build up to it that makes it for me. It's just all very wistful and lush and gorgeous and well. It's the first Radio 1 backed record in a very long time that I've fallen head over heels in love with.

And it's only blimmin' sat at #1 on iTunes

I know streaming has only kicked in for this today but I'm hoping it can keep it up till Friday (still so weird having to get used to saying that instead of Sunday)...

I think it will still do decently on streaming. And doesn't have the weekend effect to compete with.

Really hope it can hold on - it would be my favourite number 1 in years and years! (Sorry) it all depends on what kind of lead they can get on iTunes I guess. Airplay and the number 1 effect will help tomorrow.

So 'Shine' is absolutely smashing it! Looking highly likely to be #1 this week, setting the album up really nicely!

3 new 'Shine' videos are showing on Friday night, and it'll be interactive, so the viewer can change which of the three videos to switch between. Light, Shadow, Dark. 9:45 - Channel 4. Didn't Sam Smith do something similar, for 'Stay With Me'?
Oooh I did wonder what this was all about on their Twitter. I shall be watching!

More info from Music Week:

Electronic pop trio Years & Years will perform latest single Shine in a primetime advert break on Channel 4 on the first New Music Friday.

The three and a half minute bespoke ad break, taking place during 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown at 9.45pm, is a collaboration between Channel 4, Polydor Records, MediaCom, and The Outfit. Viewers will be able to vote throughout the three and a half minute break to switch between three different performances, using the hashtags #ChooseDark #ChooseLight or #ChooseShadow.

Viewers’ tweets will be counted live during the ad break and tallied every 30 seconds, while the two alternative music video choices to the performance playing in full screen will be displayed as insets. The broadcast will aim to switch seamlessly between these to reflect the performance Channel 4’s viewers most want to see.

Creative agency The Outfit, who produced the Years & Years advert, were also behind Sam Smith's live performance advert on Channel 4 last year.

Jack Melhuish, marketing director, Polydor Records said: “Years and Years are a special band and we felt it was important to do something special to celebrate the release of their debut album. Giving fans and viewers the chance to control and direct a TV advert as it happens has never been done before and plays perfectly into the band’s ethos of rewarding their fans and always being on the cutting edge.”

Jonathan Allan, sales director, Channel 4 said: “This exciting partnership is a real treat for Years & Years fans. It’s a fun and innovative use of the ad break that follows the great success of Sam Smith’s live performance on 4 last year.”

Dino Ioannou, global head of universal music, MediaCom said: “Years & Years have such a dedicated and socially engaged fan base. We wanted to give them a unique opportunity to be integral to this album campaign on Channel 4. It’s another great example of MediaCom being involved in an exciting partnership that both innovates in broadcast and drives huge engagement through social channels."

The band said: "We loved the idea of giving our fans control of a music video and this happening in a way that reached as many people as possible. The different videos perfectly represent the different sides of our identity as a band and we hope the audience will enjoy being able to experience our music in a different and cool
