The reason for no set number of films is because of the way the list is compiled: 1) The top 10 grossing movies of the year, worldwide 2) The winners of Best Picture, Actor, Actress, Supporting Actor and Supporting Actress at that years Oscar ceremony. It doesn't always happen, but that means we could have 15 films, but obviously the winners might already be in the top 10, or have won multiple (or all) of the above, so the list will be smaller. For example in 2002, Chicago won Best Picture and Best Actress. Anyway, onto the important stuff. May 21, 201510 yr Author I have to say this is definitely NOT a banner year in terms of cinema, the worst Harry Potter movie, the worst Star Wars movie, the worst (original) LOTR movie, an average James Bond entry, SIGNS and the original not very good Spider-Man trilogy. The only BEACONS of hope really are MIBII, Chicago and The Hours. I haven't actually SEEN Adaptation but don't feel the urge to change that.
May 21, 201510 yr The Hours, The Pianist and MBFGW are among my all time favourite films and I like Two Towers & Chamber of Secrets a lot more than their prequels. I think 2002 was a fairly good year.

Harry Potter 4 is an actual TRAVESTY. Worst HP movie ever, up there with Bridge To Teribithia. It's si bad it's in pop culture as bein bad - even called out on Big Bang Theory. They should go back and re-do that steamun poil of shoite. And Two Towers is the BEST LOTRS AND Hobbit movie OF ALL TAAARM!!! Amma let you finish Fellowship, but it is!! Omg I can't even! May 21, 201510 yr Author I think Goblet is best too, albeit a close run thing between it and Order Of The Phoenix. In fact I like them all from then on, it's just the first 3 I have issues with.

I wouldn't call holding an 88% rating on Rotten Tomatoes as having 'low scores from critics' :angel: It held like the fourth best rating of the movies as I was checking through them. Not that I live by what critics have to say. Goblet of Fire has everything, the tournament is brilliant and I think it's the turning point in where the series becomes even more mature. The next best for me would have to be Deathly Hallows Part 2 and Half-Blood Prince.
May 21, 201510 yr Author I'd probably go for the same top 3 Jahq. To say the first 3 are the ''deepest' baffles me. They are about as deep as a PUDDLE (ok, the first 2 are, Azkabhan is maybe ankle deep) but Goblet (with the death of Cedric and the beginning of the proper darkness) and in particular the bleakness of 7.1 (even if it is a flawed movie) and the forced maturity the leads had to go through automatically makes them deeper and more mature films. Fair enough 7.2 is a bit more style over substance but it's the big finale, it was always going to be over the top and ludicrous, it's almost always the case with every franchise. They want to go out on a BANG, not a whimper.

May 21, 201510 yr Goblet of Fire is dark for dark sake - the colour scheme of yhe film is disgustingly dark to the point it looks like there's a permanent Scottish storm and a powercut. The movie is just a hodgepot of short shitty scenes with bo character development and no meaningful interactions between characters unlike the deeper more emotional first 3 and 7.1. 7.2 is the worst though along with 4. Style and mothing else. 4 is almost like a music video its scenes are so short. People confuse book quality with film quality and the movie is pure unadulterated TRASH. May 21, 201510 yr Well at least ONE of the Lord Of The Rings has to be making it through - but I'd say Return has more of a chance than Two Towers, although I'm not sure what it'll be up against in 2003 without checking. Hope the poorest of the Star Wars films doesn't get through here and I do sorta agree with the average-ness of the franchise entries here, John. I do have quite a bit of choice now though from what I've seen, The Pianist is a fantastic and deeply moving film, hope that can avoid the bottom lot.
May 21, 201510 yr I'll be baffled if The Pianist doesn't do well here as it's the clear highlight and one of the greatest/most important films of the 21st Century. Late Polanski but in keeping with a lot of the style that made him so good in his hey-day.
May 21, 201510 yr Goblet of Fire's probably my second favorite after Prisoner of Azkaban! Though really I think all of them were various levels of good barring the first one which just seems like a really bad Disney movie these days. Not a whole lot of standouts here and various weak points in trilogies, I hold out hope for Ice Age though, the constant sequels ruined it completely but I have fond, ten-year old memories of the first one.
May 22, 201510 yr I have voted! I have only seen 6 of them, so I only used them, despite not liking my bottom 2 very much :drama: I really should get around to watching 'The Pianist' though. Heard nothing but good things about it, although it's a similar situation to 'A Clockwork Orange' for me... and... well... I really didn't like it. So dull. So I'm a bit hesitant to give it a go.
