July 11, 201510 yr I think it's a bit of a bummer for the younger chart show fans who still have school and people who may end up working on Friday nights and miss it.
July 11, 201510 yr Too early too tell. A few things need to change such as all new entries being played first
July 11, 201510 yr Definitely too early to tell. It was a lot more interesting thanks to the missing data but that's not due to the show change, although they should play new entries outside the top 25.
July 11, 201510 yr Not playing new entries and TWO newsbeat flashes in the period of 1:45 hours (and that's right before the 15 minutes newsbeat as well) make it a miss to me definitely.
July 11, 201510 yr I think it's a bit of a bummer for the younger chart show fans who still have school Only if they went to a private school, surely. Anyway, a big fat no as it is hosted by Greg James. Edited July 11, 201510 yr by Griff
July 11, 201510 yr Hit. The only real flaw to me is that not all NEs are played in full, but we have YouTube to check them out if we like the snippet I guess. I enjoyed the chart on Friday more than I have in ages so it's great so far I think.
July 11, 201510 yr Overall it was good. Greg is far less annoying than Clara or Jameela, and pays respect to the chart. His style is reminiscent of Wes. But I don't get why they decided to play 21-25 rather than the new entries and climbers. I hope that changes. I'd also like to see more of the songs announced before they are played and more use of the "tension stager" bed they used near the end.
July 11, 201510 yr they shouldn't make it the UK Top 25 show, really how hard is it to choose 5 songs from #21-40? In yesterday's show they should have played Pharrell Williams, The Weeknd [The Hills] (and judging by the clip they played they clearly have a radio edit for that now) and Petite Meller, then the whole top 22. Other than that I like it. (voted too early to tell)
July 11, 201510 yr Not playing new entries and TWO newsbeat flashes in the period of 1:45 hours (and that's right before the 15 minutes newsbeat as well) make it a miss to me definitely. I think R1 are obliged to have those news bulletins.
July 11, 201510 yr I listen to to Radio 1 from that time during the week anyway. So I would say it's a hit as I am listening to the Charts again.
July 11, 201510 yr Too early to tell but the only amendment it needs is for all new entries to be played.
July 11, 201510 yr I wouldn't say it was a hit or a miss, but I can't imagine it's something I'd tune into regularly, it did peeve me a bit that all new entries below 25 weren't played. Edited July 11, 201510 yr by Chez Wombat
July 11, 201510 yr well putting aside the spotify debacle // positive first impressions ~ the chart seems to have more of an edge on friday drivetime ^_^
July 11, 201510 yr Too early too tell. A few things need to change such as all new entries being played first I agree with this, I only heard a few bits but I wasn't happy that they played the top 25 in full but skipped the new/re entries which really doesn't make sense... I'd rather they just picked 5 key tracks from 40-21 (I know this could be tough if there's more movement in this area) but it seems silly to start counting down the chart from number 25
July 11, 201510 yr Too early to tell. Not playing the new entries was odd, and two news bulletins during the show and an extended one afterwards are a downside. On the plus side I do rate Greg as a host, and there was a lot more focusing on getting through the chart and a lot less nonsensical texts and stuff. Maybe rather than trying to play a fixed part of the chart in full they should try to play new entries, climbers and the top 3, then slot extra tracks in to make up the time.
July 11, 201510 yr The fact that the chart was botched this week took away from my enjoyment a bit - found it frustrating. But I can see it being okay. New entires should be played.
July 12, 201510 yr I voted "miss" which is maybe harshly premature. I work backshift every Friday night so I have to record it and listen after I finish work. Sundays suited me much better. Greg James is a decent host. His heart seems to be more in it than Clara. The fact that they played the top 25 suggests lazy production and perhaps radio 1 doesn't care enough about the chart to be bothered selecting songs from 40-26? I would be a bit miffed to have a new entry at no.26 overlooked then immediately play a track at 25 which has already been around for 10 weeks. I remember when Wes hosted the chart ~2003 and they did a "continuous countdown" from 40-21 (I think) but they always played every new entry and selected others. The way I see it the OCC are trying to talk up the new Friday chart but there's no getting away from the fact that Radio 1 have pretty much halved the time they devote to it once you include the news bulletins. I remember listening to the chart ~1992 and they stopped for a very short news update at 4.30. But that was a 3 hour show with every track played in full.
