Have you ever had songs that entered your personal chart when you first heard them, but didn't do that well, but then you got back into them in a big way and they became a bigger hit on your chart? (Like Wings by Birdy has done this week on the official chart)

For me, it would be Not Giving Up by The Saturdays:

  • First run: The Saturdays - Not Giving Up {9-6-11-17-23-33-42-53-82-95}
A decent top 10 hit at the time, but not a very long run. However, 11 weeks after dropping out, it returned because I was training for a race and it was my motivation song to not give up. And on the big day, I put it on repeat on my phone during the race, and subsequently it soared to number one, where it remained for three weeks. A much bigger hit than the first time round, and a much better position than I got at the race. I came 86th out of 149.

Yeah, I've grown to songs later on after initially charting it. My most notable one no doubt would be Shake It Off, which just sounded ok at first, debuting at #17 for half a week and re-entered 9 weeks later!

[15/09/14] Taylor Swift - Shake It Off [17-x17-13-12-11-10-10-9-6-7-6-5-4-5-4-6-7-5-3-4-4-8-8-9-10-12-12-25-34-34-36-36-33-38-38-x-36-37>35] 921K

Blimey, nearly 18 weeks! :o

Ghost Loft “So High”

Originally peaked at #20 in April 2013, then after a resurgence thanks to BJSC it re-peaked at #5 in August 2013.

Foals “Spanish Sahara”

Album-track release propelled the single to as high as #10 in April 2010. Then in October on its single release it promptly smashed to #1 and spent 4 weeks there!

MSTRKRFT ft. John Legend “Heartbreaker”

Originally peaked at #22 in June 2009, then after dropping out for a couple of weeks surged to a new peak of #2 in August 2009.

I must admit these were growers for me too. Wasn't that keen on Hey Brother's vocals at first but the insane production got me so hooked :heart: :heart: :heart: (actually the same happened for me with Silhouettes too with the vocals :kink: )

I hate re-charting songs on my chart. This hasn't happened to me yet.

Two other examples:

Eyes Shut by Years & Years {45-40-55-60-73-84-100-x2-53-35-33-46-55-61-63-43-42-45-48-46-29-22-18-15-11-2-5-6...}

First run: {45-40-55-60-73-84-100}

Then charting as an acoustic version.

Second run {53-35-33-46-55-61-63-43-42-45-48-46-29-22-18-15-11-2-5-6...}

You could actually say that run is actually three runs, only with the song never dropping out. After the release of Communion, it reached a new peak of #33, before falling down all the way to #63. It was then announced as the next single, after which it lingered up and down the #41-#50 zone for five weeks. Then, after the video release, it re-entered the top 40 again and climbed all the way to #2. So Eyes Shut was a bigger the second/third/fourth time, depending how you look at it.

Another one is Lay Down by Ella Henderson: {55-62-68-73-74-79-85-91-80-77-80-75-75-71-75-68-74-81-95-90-92-84-83-89-61-47-54-55-55-55-53-54-59-70-80-87-91-96-90-90-88-96-96-94-93-98-x10-12...}

While it remains to be seen how Lay Down performs in future weeks, it is clear that its use (by myself) as a tribute to the victims of the attacks has had a big effect on it re-entering the chart 35 places higher than its original peak.

As somewhat off a ~swap~ with Doctor Blind, Young Fathers' "Get Up" re-entered at #12 following BJSC. Its original run began somewhere in mid-2014, can't recall its peak exactly but it was somewhere outside the top 30

And another BJSC-influenced one- Sufjan Stevens' "Christmas Unicorn" reached #12 back in 2012, but just a few weeks ago it re-peaked at #5 after I'd entered it into a Xmas spinoff

I just realized "Elastic Heart" has had a similar chart run:

First Run: 50-45-41-41-40-38 (as part of the Hunger Games: Catching Fire soundtrack)

Second Run: 27-24-16-17-16-16-14-10-10-11-14-19-23-32-41 (released as a single)
