Yet millions of people still vote for them. Strange that if they're so evil.

Just because people vote for them it doesn’t make them right. What an absurd argument.

Thousands of people voted BNP - does that make them any less bad just because bigoted racists indorse them?

Well would any sane person vote for the Tories if they're as evil as Michael keeps saying. Tends to make me think he's wrong.

How do you think they would fare if we had a more balanced press?

Oh GOD at that awful defence. The Nazis also won elections, soo yeaaah. So did Mussolini. That's mo messure of moral superiority.

In no small part, it's because of people like you who take everything the Tories say at face value and fall for it hook line + sinker. You can't say you don't because I always see you say on here "it must be true, I saw them say it on the telly".

But I'm not explicitly blaming you, there's a lot of simple-minded people like you out there.

Tory party is evil and vile. In a real democracy, such a sneaky, lying, evil party wouldn't even be allowed to stand.

If only your opinion was worth votes...

You mean, one that put down the Tories & praised Labour?

And there's your invocation of Godwin's Law...

No, balanced. Look it up if you are unsure what it means.

But who is to be the arbiter of balance?

Did I say anything about it being regulated? No I didn't.

True - but it's hardly satisfactory *now* either - with both sides accusing the other of bias...

100% this!

I'm talking specifically about the printed press. How can anyone seriously suggest that there is an overall left-wing bias in the printed press?

You didn't specify printed press.

You didn't specify printed press.

The word press is generally used to refer to the printed press. I would have used a wider term such as media if I wanted to include broadcasters.

Now, try again. How do you think a more balanced press (by which I mean the printed press) would affect Tory popularity?

Sorry, noted.

This is purely a hypothetical question, as you can hardly force newspapers to adopt a more neutral stance!

But to answer it anyway, I don't think it would make as much difference as you might suppose, unless you subscribe to Michael's 'brainwashing' idea. IMO most people are capable of seeing which side their bread is buttered on, and voting accordingly.

If it didn't work, propaganda wouldn't exist. As history has shown time and time again, it works and brainwashing is a real thing. Look at simple people like common senseless - a Tory says something on the telly, and he accepts it immediately without question. BBTory do not help him out by questioning their lies. They jsut report on them. The cheerleader press then glorify whatever crap they just said. Brainwashing.

Brainwashing only works when every source of info is controlled by the state - that is definately not the case here.

BTW, have you ever paused to wonder how you became convinced that COrbyn is so great? :teresa:

But it's more subtle than that. A lot of the anti-Tory stories mentioned here simply don't get mentioned in certain papers, so people don't get to hear about them.

Oh, and which bit of I'M NOT PROPOSING REGULATION OF THE PRESS did you miss?

It works however when the MAJORITY OF THE PRESS SAYS THE SAME THING AND FOLLOWS THE SAME SCRIPT!!!

Because he is. He's been on the right side of history for decades. He was arrested for protesting apartheid in South Africa. Tories and their Tory police were in poeer at the time of course. People shouldn't be getting arrested for peaceful protest. You have to listen to the man, rather than what the mainstream media says about him, to realise. State-wide brainwashing has made hin the msot smeared politician IN HISTORY.
