Posted September 13, 20159 yr Loved all the twists and turns and big reveals in the play when we studied it last year for English GCSE so really excited to see a new version of it on our TV screens tonight, with David Thewlis too, yay! Really lucky to have both this and Macbeth being newly adapted, Of Mice & Men next please to complete the trio of GCSE English Lit great stories. 8.30 tonight :D Edited September 13, 20159 yr by Josh.
September 13, 20159 yr Wasn't even aware this was a thing. :o Will definitely have to watch after doing it for GCSE!
September 13, 20159 yr oh this could be interesting, never saw a decent adaptation of the play when I was studying it for GCSE. I won't watch it live though obviously, X factor comes first!
September 13, 20159 yr I saw it on stage many years ago. Tonight's adaptation was very good with a particularly creepy performance from David Thewlis.
September 13, 20159 yr I saw it on stage many years ago. Tonight's adaptation was very good with a particularly creepy performance from David Thewlis. I've only seen the Alastair Sim version, a couple of am-dram productions of it and the BBC TV series with Nigel Davenport and Margaret Tyzack as Mr and Mrs Birling and Bernard Hepton as The Inspector. I thought tonight's production was brilliant (although I've never been disappointed with any version of it). David Thewlis was terrific though.

September 13, 20159 yr  How cheap of the Beeb to make this, knowinh it'll be a ratibngs and DVD hit thanks to everyone who has to study it at GCSE.
September 14, 20159 yr I enjoyed this version of the play. Definitely not 90 minutes wasted if anyone is considering watching it!
September 14, 20159 yr It was really good, except for the last few minutes, it kinda ruined the mystery of the Inspector for me, the way the book (and the first film version) ended was much better and more mysterious. Other than that, I loved it.
September 15, 20159 yr Just watched this on iPlayer with my mum and we both loved it. My mum's not seen it before but I studied the play at GCSE and, as far as I could tell, it was incredibly exact to the play (aside from Regina's point, although it didn't really ruin it for me) yet I still felt a great deal of suspense and eagerness to watch more despite already knowing what happened. The casting was spot on, aside I had envisioned Shelia with blonde hair, and acting all round was superb. I definitely concur that it's well worth the 90-minute watch!
September 15, 20159 yr Yes, it was done very well in the end and it is certainly well worth the watch. I found myself being reminded of GCSE throughout with certain quotes and events, with me half-interpreting stuff in my head.

I found myself being reminded of GCSE throughout with certain quotes and events, with me half-interpreting stuff in my head. Same! I really enjoyed studying at school and all the character profiles and debates on who was most responsible for the girl's death and how they would have acted when the second inspector arrived, so I was recalling all that when watching and the scripts and acting and directing all captured that perfectly.
September 16, 20159 yr Again I studied this at GCSE, so will be checking this out. I remember watching a very old looking I guess TV Movie version, I think it was a BBC version.
September 16, 20159 yr Lol are we all the same ages? Or were the school board lazy? I also did it for GCSE
September 16, 20159 yr ^I think GCSE English has been the same for ages! Anyone also do Of Mice and Men? :P
September 16, 20159 yr ^I think GCSE English has been the same for ages! Anyone also do Of Mice and Men? :P My son did OMAM and AIC two years ago. I remember mine from absolutely ages ago - Pride and Prejudice and Henry VI Part 1. There were other texts we had to read as well - Lord of the Flies and The Day of the Triffids were two of them. I think I liked The Day of the Triffids the best. And I'm not going to say which year this was!!! Edited September 16, 20159 yr by Kath
