Her older songs seem to have been boosted more by this programme than the newer ones (note in particular 'Skyfall' all the way back up to the top 25!) - I guess the main impact of it has been her albums, with '21' back at #5 and '19' at #7 on the iTunes album chart.

She only performed 2 of her new songs (Million Years Ago; When We Were Young) which was disappointing.

Hello says hello

Quite disappointing seeing the climbs, I honestly thought watching it songs were going to shoot up rapidly.

Hopefully it has more of an affect album wise rather than the singles.

Hello says hello

It's not new as in no one had heard it.

I think Adele is undoubtedly more of an album seller in the UK. If you look at all the other countries around the world, when we were young is generally in the top 5.

I can't see WWWY not climbing more though.

It's really curious how Adele has 7 songs in USA top-10 and struggles to even go back to #1 in her homeland.

Americans tend to celebrate success and raise it even higher, Brits (the press at least) tend to like to see someone 'fall from grace' so to say. Just look at the American reviews of 25 vs. the British reviews. The British reviews are generally ruthless like they were for 21.

You guys are nuts!

How on earth is Adele struggling to go to number 1, she's been number 1 with Hello for 3 weeks and it's sold a crazy 720k already... The album is number 1 and will sell huge amounts, and all the songs are high on iTunes but people ARE probably going for the album, rather than cherry picking. Which is why Skyfall is so high, it's not on an album.

Adele is hugely celebrated in the UK regardless of critical reviews, they're paid to be critical and British critics have always been more anaylitical than American critics, they're calling a spade a spade because it's not a perfect album.

Edited by Joe.

I said back to #1 Joe. :P I'm not denying her big success but when you see the USA figures you get a bit underwhelmed. Well, I get at least.
Nope, it's still on pre-order on iTunes with a release date of 27th Nov.

You can download the album track though, which I did today.

Why are you all talking like single success matters for Adele, it is just an added bonus. The album will be selling by the bucket load.

I mean they only released 2 videos to her last album, her label and her really aren't looking to be taking the singles chart by storm, it would be on Spotify if they were. They are after album sales and they will get them.

Actually it has sold 512K, which is less than Uptown Funk managed (pure sales = 555K) in 4 weeks. #chartfact

Hellos sales did seems to slow down quicker than expected for me and it seems people got bored of the constant plays for the track quickly but there's no doubting it's been a huge success/hit.

god, on occasion i forget how unstable chart fans are but it only takes a whiff of this thread to put me to rights!!

good god girl....

It sounds like you're trying to downplay her success when, as you've said yourself, the digital market has downsized massively in that time so I wouldn't say it's all that comparable. Chart sales are what matter right now.

I'd also argue UFs success was organic as the song is what drove sales whereas Hellos success was partly down to the anticipated comeback. But in saying that BOTH tracks are undoubtedly huge and I'm not trying to play down any of them (Joseph ;))

I'm not trying to downplay Adele's success, just commenting that I am surprised how quickly her sales have dropped off (here in the UK, whilst elsewhere she continues to dominate). I thought she'd get quite close to selling 1 million downloads with “Hello” after that first week sale, however there is no denying the single hasn't quite held up as well as other big hits from the year. I take your point that admittedly streaming has taken away a lot of her potential sales yes, but I still expected the all conquering Adele to overcome that!
