x has left the top ten (#13) and I can't see it re-entering by Friday! Buzzjack, rejoice!

That's a nasty drop for 1D in albums, especially considering that the two singles are holding up very well. A -74% is considerably larger than their usual second week drops. Justin, on the other hand, is down only 40% and outsold Elvis yesterday; he will probably end up at 2 again.

I don't care about the singles except for Nathan, who will probably hit midweek 5 for its peak, maybe #4; but I bet it ends up missing out and enters at #6 officially. He was #6 yesterday too, so his X Factor effect has barely taken place yet, especially considering that there were only three hours left for this chart to be compiled after his performance. He doesn't need streams when he has some physical sales, even if they may be small.

Regarding the album chart in the next few weeks, The Vamps should go top ten next week; Fleur and Troye Sivan (the latter of who will probably chart higher to be honest  ) will join them in that tier the following week. We've established that Coldplay are a big release, and I think they will be #1 midweek but Adele will snatch it from them.

I think Nathan will end up more like 8 - 10. I don't think he'll get good streaming and the reason he's sold so much so far is from physical pre-orders, which he won't be selling very many more of. Top 10 is very good though, though I give him no more than 5 weeks top 40.
Critics panned Spice Girls Spice and it still sold 30 million copies and is one of the best pop albums.

I dont really agree.

Yay for Enya  Does anyone know how Olly's getting on with the 'Never Been Better' repack?

Currently #10, hard to tell if he'll hold on to the Top 10.

It's at 10. It may climb or increase in sales after his XF performance.

Take That's is doing better at 6, but the bulk of its amount is made up of pre-orders and the first day sale; it will surely drop quickly and will be out of the top ten by Friday.

Outselling the #2 by over 15-1!

Take That may rise a bit in sales cause of SCD.

The average sale for the whole top 200 is only around 435k for 2015

the reason he's sold so much so far is from physical pre-orders, which he won't be selling very many more of

That's not true, though; if you took out the miniscule 10% of physical sales he'd still be #6 regardless, so if he sells zero amount of physical from now onwards it wouldn't be making a difference because his download is clearly the bulk of his sales.

Adele absolutely obliterating all faves *____* Already the 3rd best selling album of the year too and probably the #1 by the end of this week, insane sales!!
Yes, it's subjective but if you read some of the reviews by critics, it doesn't exactly get a glowing five star reference. Quite a few critics have said the album is pretty average and very similar to her last one. Just because it's selling well doesn't mean it deserves to do well though.

But by that same token, just because you're not a fan of it doesn't necessarily mean it doesn't deserve to be doing well.

Critics panned Spice Girls Spice and it still sold 30 million copies and is one of the best pop albums.

'Spice' actually got nominated for the Mercury Music Prize in 1997, so I wouldn't exactly say it was panned by critics.

I do, however, agree that it's one of the best pop albums of all time!

Thank you. Olly's on Alan Carr and Sunday Brunch this coming week and has the second of his album signings today which will hopefully help.

It's funny with all this Adele talk - and its comparisons to 'Be Here Now'. I read up on an article analysing the release of the latter and it's interesting seeing some of the similarities in that campaign and that for '25'. Difference being of course that Adele is highly unlikely to have recorded any of it jacked up on coke like Noel and Liam were.

If anything, this is to her what 'Life for Rent' was to Dido as a more easy comparison. That clocked up just under half a million sales first week out, again, in a very low sales climate. And that album - particularly 'White Flag' - was ubiquitous. This and 'Hello' likewise.

I always thought 2003/2004 was a pretty strong period for album sales? It was the singles sales that had taken a major nose dive, the albums market was quite healthy back then. I seem to at least 10-15 million sellers per year back then.

Maybe it was the singles market more back then that took more of a hit. I do remember reading a lot of doom and gloom about the future of the music industry back then, nonetheless every week it seemed it was possible to go top 10 on lower sales. It does make you wonder how much longer it'll be before streaming services experience the spike in ubiquity that iTunes did towards the end of the 00s?
In the albums, think Elvis will pip Adele by the end of the week, she seems very frontloaded.

Yes album sales increased year on year from 1994-2004 then started to ebb back :D

I have a feeling that "Lay It All On Me" could finally crack the top 10
A critics opinion shouldn't really have any affect on whether you personally like the album. They are not the controllers of our mind. But for what it's worth, her metacritic score is 76, and she has been given some pretty damn good reviews. Quite a few over the 90 mark.
