December 23, 20159 yr There's the chart run - very long and stable for the early 80s, Billie Jean was the first single off the album in Jan that year and it reached no1! Chart run: 24-{10}-11-16-12-13-13-11-12-18-27-37-44-52-60-70-74-75->18 (November 1983) I believe its video was released late after the single's release which resulted in its stable chart run (obviously back in the physical era, it was much harder for a "video effect" to occur that late after the original copies were shipped and stocked).
December 23, 20159 yr Author Billie Jean was the second single after"the girl is mine" from "Thriller "
December 24, 20159 yr Billie Jean was the second single after"the girl is mine" from "Thriller " Thanks forgot about that one ;)
December 24, 20159 yr 4. Teletubbies Say Eh-Oh - Teletubbies (1997) 750,000 I watched Teletubbies as a kid about 15 years ago now, and this song was probably the first song I knew and enjoyed Lol. Used as the theme tune of the show, the song features the names of all four Teletubbies in the chorus, and was actually nominated for the Novello songwriting award  Other critics said it was annoying, unsurprisingly! The song was a #1 hit anyway, although it got beaten to the Christmas #1 by the Spice Girls with Too Much. FItP77HqV9c
December 24, 20159 yr 3. Can We Fix It - Bob The Builder (2000) 761,000 http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/41DDG6BRYSL.jpg Another show I watched as a kid  Bob the Builder's theme tune was (and still is no doubt) instantly recognisable, at least amongst people my age. The song was used as the theme tune to the show, with the lyrics "Bob the Builder, can we fix it? Bob the Builder, yes we can!" The song was of course a UK #1, but not only that, it sold over a million copies and ended up as the 10th biggest seller of the 2000s! CZnYzD-LnSU
December 24, 20159 yr 2. Do They Know It's Christmas? - Band Aid 20 (2004) 811,000 In 2004, Bob Geldof organised a re-recording of the Band Aid song Do They Know It's Christmas? to mark the 20 year anniversary. The third version of the track became the third chart-topper, as well as the biggest and fastest selling single of 2004. This version of the song features the Sugababes, Dizzee Rascal (adding in a new rap verse), Chris Martin and of course Bono. Oh and the actual video isn't on YouTube for whatever reason. So here's a version someone uploaded with the song playing properly but the video in reverse  AqAtlLWJ690
December 24, 20159 yr Can we do a rundown before the no1 Joe? I like Band Aid 20, was a good song plus it had the original. I actually had BA 2 on vinyl but it was terrible!

December 24, 20159 yr 1. Do They Know It's Christmas? - Band Aid (1984) 1,837,000 Naturally, we now arrive at the original, which tops the list with ease. Bob Geldof and Midge Ure wrote the track in response to the Ethiopian famine of 1983-1985. The original version spent five weeks at the spot spot, including the Christmas #1 week. It's fair to say that, alongside succeeding in its core purpose of raising money, the song has become a Christmas classic itself, having been remade three times since, most recently Band Aid 30 last year. Artists involved in this version include Phil Collins, Tony Hadley (of Celebrity MasterChef fame :kink: pun for any I'm a Celeb fans), Sting and Paul Young, among many others of course. I hope you've all enjoyed this countdown, I know Gezza and I have enjoyed counting it down! On behalf of us both, have a very Merry Christmas :D bjQzJAKxTrE
December 24, 20159 yr :cheer: :cheer: It is interesting to see only 1 actually sold a million copies within the eligible time period although a lot did go on to Would love to see this return every month
December 24, 20159 yr Author Thanks for coming hosting Joseph. Before any one says it yes I think I did forget James Arthur. Oops.
December 24, 20159 yr We all have forgotten about him don't worry lol. Thanks for the rerun and the countdown!
December 24, 20159 yr Bob The Builder and Teletubbies *.* Both anthems of our generation. not surprised at all but good to see Band Aid at #1.
December 24, 20159 yr Am I missing something? Teletubbies entered the chart on 13 Dec and according to Wikipedia had sold 900,000 by the end of the year. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1997_in_Briti...#Top_50_singles Why is there a discrepancy with the figure here? And - did Always On My Mind really sell fewer than 240,000 and still manage to be 14th best seller of 1987? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1987_in_Briti...selling_singles
December 24, 20159 yr Oh, I see. Thanks Dasher! Could I ask - was 1997 the only year to have 10 songs feature - I wasn't keeping an eye on any other year.
