My initial point was that I'm shocked to see #beautiful still in the competition, it's chart impact and sales would suggest that maybe it's not an "iconic" or particularly memorable moment from her career. I believe I'm allowed to talk about the poll were all voting on and discussing right? That's what it has to do with this game. :mellow:

I never actually expressed my opinion on the song it's self whatsoever, yet you decided to declare the facts I had considered as my opinion.

Not everything is about chart positions and sales ;o (Bal & Rob take note of me saying this, it's a rare occurrence :kink: ). I mean Butterfly only just went out of the game and that did worse than #Beautiful, commercially. Emotions wasn't a particularly big hit in Europe and that's still going strong in the poll. The aim of these threads is to determine the collective taste of BuzzJack; it's all down to tastes, not how iconic or successful the songs are. Clearly, considering 'One Sweet Day' is out of the game and that's like her biggest hit of all?

 

I would argue that #Beautiful is certainly a moment of gypsy whatever in Mariah's career. It spent more than a festive moment within the Top 25 of the UK, and it was recently certified Silver. I think it's like her 12th or 13th best selling single here? That's great! It went Platinum in the US too. It was a critical success too.

Don't get me wrong Jay, you're so right, sales/chart runs mean very little. But, I think I've heard #beautiful twice, maybe 3 times. I don't ever remember reading anything about the video or anything, there just seemed to be little impact from it.

So, I can't really base it on how I feel about the song when I know not enough about it, so to look from the outside and see peak of #22 here and not making top 10 in the US I am just surprised it has lasted this long into this particular poll.

I think #Beautiful was a brave song for her and attracted a lot more fans from outside of her core fanbase. Looking at the list up there it certainly stands out as being the most unique through it's very current/modern/hip feature and the sultry vibes it had.

 

I am very biased.. it's my favourite ever Mariah single and i'm not really huge on her. I know many others that have the same sentiments as me (and i've heard it fairly often even when I least expect it so i've had a totally different experience to yourself on that front).

This entirely. I don't consider myself a Mariah fan at all (you could say 'hater') but I LOVE #Beautiful, it ended up being one of my favourite songs of 2013.

Yeah, I'm with Bal and Jack. Beautiful was the first Mariah song I heard on the radio a lot (other than festive Mariah) for like, decade almost. It really was a decent little hit for her, which is more than I can say about most of what she's put out there in recent years.
