January 7, 20169 yr It is a lovely song and I imagine it'd sound great in a live environment so that's a shame! Although I doubt any of it really mattered once you met her haha, still so jealous! :kink: Yeah I can't see it going on the album, Wings seemed to be promoted as the lead single from the next album (when is this album coming, it's all gone quiet again :(). UK top 100 iTunes smash <3 I forgot that happened! What a surprisingly amazing moment   Potentially, I was vaguely aware of what he looked like actually but yeah, proof that I'm not shallow  http://www.buzzjack.com/forums/uploads/group_images/of_18_icon.gif Yeah that's true! I think she's still in the studio writing it now but I only see Wings being on it. A few other tracks are floating about, I heard one called Leave You With Love a few weeks ago which was a bit underwhelming so a bit of a worry. I really just want an album full of Wings-style tracks. That classic piano Delta sound in a more modern production style is so good <3 Haha, I was sure I'd get your 12 that month too (jk :P)
January 7, 20169 yr Black Magic & Worth it are 2 of my favourite girl-band songs this year (along with another from Fifth Harmony). Cool For The Summer was a song I loved for a week but then got completely bored of. Bo$$, Blank Space & Take Me To Church were 3 of my favourites of 2014. Dear Future Husband is the only Meghan song I find tolerable in any way. Good For You is one of the best of year. Absolutely amazing song.
January 7, 20169 yr Author Thanks everyone as always  I will get onto replying to everyone else's charts tomorrow and over the weekend :D Yeah that's true! I think she's still in the studio writing it now but I only see Wings being on it. A few other tracks are floating about, I heard one called Leave You With Love a few weeks ago which was a bit underwhelming so a bit of a worry. I really just want an album full of Wings-style tracks. That classic piano Delta sound in a more modern production style is so good <3 Haha, I was sure I'd get your 12 that month too (jk :P) I'd looooove an album of Wings-style songs  It would be perfect for her. Boo at that sounding underwhelming, hopefully she has loads of better things up her sleeve for this album, especially with the momentum she's built up with Wings over in Australia! apologies for the disappointment :P

Wildest Dreams has a lot of good memories for me because I, as part of a group, used it in a soap opera trailer for Media Studies A Level. It's my pick of the section below, the trailer that got me a B grade :heehee: When released as a single, it didn't make a huge impact on my chart, purely because my love for the song has been pretty much constant from the album release. Its chart run really doesn't reflect how much I've loved it in the long run. The Lana Del Rey soundalike song sees a new side of Taylor, a more relaxed, restrained version, and it works so well in her favour. With the first of his two songs in my top 40, James Bay is at #34 with Let It Go. The song was released as the second single from James' debut album Chaos and the Calm, and I initially found it a bit boring on the album, but it grew on me a lot and I find it a stunning song. Lyrically it's quite simple, particularly in the chorus, but I think that just helps the message of the song. It's been described as heart-rendering by critics, and has made a huge impact on the UK charts, despite only getting its #10 peak through a fluke with missing Spotify data. Now for a song I was hugely anticipating at the start of the year. I loved Tori Kelly's feature on Professor Green's Lullaby, and the idea of solo music from her excited me greatly. Nobody Love came around and entered straight at #1. Whilst it's not one of my absolute defining hits of the year, it's still a song I enjoy very much and I wish it wasn't so overlooked worldwide (like Tori herself but Should've Been Us seemed to get more attention). Her powerhouse vocals are demonstrated in this, almost quite Christina Aguilera-like. Tori's a huge star that just....forgot to happen, it would seem. Hopefully it's not over for her yet though. Another hit from earlier in the year! G.R.L. had a HUGE smash hit with Ugly Heart in 2014, although that was followed by the sad news of Simone Battle's death. I was always going to be excited for what was still to come from the girl group but knowing they had a tribute to Simone lined up, I was even more excited, hoping they would do it justice. They most certainly delivered, with a heart-wreching ballad that I put on repeat pretty much all day long when it premiered. It faded after a few weeks but I do really enjoy it. It doesn't match Ugly Heart but I'm not sure that's the point with this song anyway. Such a shame they split up after this, they had so much potential but I guess it was understandable after all they went through. Just missing out on the top 30 is a EUROVISION song!!1! The highest one has been in my EOY by quite some way, apart from Loreen's Euphoria of course which was a top 15 EOY smash. Eduard Romanyuta representing Moldova this year with a huge pop song, which was basically a cross between Liberty X's Just a Little, and Mariah Carey's It's Like That. Which is no bad thing for the record. He DNQ'd by one place in his Eurovision semi final which was a huge shame for a song so good. It became the second Eurovision #1 in my chart, after Euphoria (although Ulrik Munther also made #1 with Melodifestivalen song Tell the World I'm Here in 2013). By far the best Eurovision song of 2015 for me! PICK OF THE SECTION
January 8, 20169 yr Hey Joseph, I've been popping (originally wrote 'pooping' until I previewed post :')) in here since you started, so apologies for only commenting now! Great job so far on the commentaries for each countdown as well as the lovely presentation - all the effort's really paying off. :D Going WAAAY back here, I love your top two albums and enjoyed reading your thoughts on them. Troye's one's relatively new to me so different songs are still clicking with each listen-through, including 'YOUTH', which I found quite jarring for a while. Not a bad song on that album though - such an impressive debut. Also glad to hear Olly's vocals were good when you saw Years & Years live, as that's been the main thing stopping me from looking into getting tickets for their shows ! Saw them on Graham Norton on NYE performing 'Shine' and could barely understand him, even though I know every word! :/ Of the last section, it's great to see 'Lighthouse' so high here as to me it seemed to have been a bit written off on the site after it flopped, with people saying it was a good tribute to Simone but an ill-advised single etc. I don't know, I always considered it near-perfect in terms of being both genuinely heartfelt and a strong song on its own merits, so was a bit bemused to see it do so poorly commercially. I really respect them for creating/releasing that song, and unfortunately it's a fitting final single with the context behind their split. -_- Really like 'Wildest Dreams' and 'Let It Go' too, the latter possibly being my favourite installment of that much-used song title at this stage, even more so than Alexandra Burke's underrated bop *.* B-)
January 8, 20169 yr Author Thanks very much for the detailed comments there Noah  !!!! at the typo, glad that was corrected  Also glad you're enjoying the countdown, I really enjoy writing this commentary and I'll be slowing it down a bit now so I can focus on filling out some more commentary for the top 30, so just 2 songs per section until the top 10! Troye's album just continues to hit me, there's not a single bad song on there for me and he's just so likeable as a person too which enhances it I think. You can tell he's making the kind of music he wants to, and is being deeply honest and revealing in the lyrics, so for someone who's just a couple of years older than myself, I think it's quite impressive as he could quite easily end up just releasing some dance-pop album with meaningless lyrics. Olly's vocals can be very hit and miss, I've not seen that Shine performance but have heard a lot about it :drama: He was definitely on form when I saw him though, he does have such a good voice on record too and I can totally get lost in it  Lighthouse really has been written off across Buzzjack, it seems to happen a bit too much when a song just flops :( It got such good reviews upon premiere too I'm sure! It's no Ugly Heart but the sentiment of it is stunning and it most definitely feels heartfelt and sincere. Such a shame radio totally blanked it, particularly following the huge smash of Ugly Heart. I'd say James' Let It Go is my favourite of that song title too. We don't talk about the #11 hit from a female vocalist. James > Burke > the other one. :kink: #30-29 coming up!
January 8, 20169 yr Author Songs http://i759.photobucket.com/albums/xx240/MarthaJonesFan/Cover%20Sleeves/Troye%20Sivan%20-%20TALK%20ME%20DOWN.pnghttp://i759.photobucket.com/albums/xx240/MarthaJonesFan/Cover%20Sleeves/Hunter%20Hayes%20-%2021.png 29 Troye Sivan - TALK ME DOWN - 2-3-6-11-18-20-30-… (7+ weeks) 30 Hunter Hayes - 21 - 1-2-6-8-14-22-26-30-39-40-40-X (11 weeks) Heading up the top 30 is the fifth #1 achieved by US country star Hunter Hayes. 21 is the title track of his album/EP thing that goes by the name The 21 Project. The album/EP consists of 7 tracks, on three discs. Disc 1 has the 7 tracks in studio form, Disc 2 has acoustic versions, and Disc 3 has live versions. An interesting tactic but I don't know what to call it -_- 21 is a typical Hunter song, an uptempo country track about living life to the full. Hunter stands out to me amongst other male country stars because he has a really youthful take on everything, from what I've seen anyway. 21 really emphasises that, and his voice sounds incredible too. I've had the privelege of hearing this song live twice, the first time was what sent it to #1 on its first week ahead of a close run with Conrad Sewell's Hold Me Up. Hold Me Up then knocked Hunter off the week after and spent 6 weeks there so Hunter was quite lucky really. It's a fantastic song regardless anyway and a worthy #1  In complete contrast, Troye Sivan's TALK ME DOWN is a much less cheerful song. And an even less cheerful video. The song, at least in my interpretation, talks about lusting after someone, wanting to sleep next to them as the lyrics would say. The production is atmospheric and contrasts well with Troye's subtle vocals. It's an incredible track and only just missed out on my weekly chart #1, to One Direction's Perfect (which is still to come so it went the right way). The music video sees the final part of the Blue Neighbourhood trilogy, where Troye and his love interest are at the latter's dad's funeral. I don't want to spoil the end as I want you guys to watch it below, it's more powerful than I can express in words really. PICK OF THE SECTION (two for this section :magic:) KU6jro5ImeE Lo3lxS-6joY
January 8, 20169 yr The 'Shake It Off'/'Blank Space'/'Style' trio is just so perfect but I think 'Wildest Dreams' has nudged its way in there. Really beautiful song from the moment the initial chords kick in. I never associated the song with Lana Del Rey but, now you've mentioned it, I could totally hear her version of it (shame she rarely sings good songs like this any more though <_<). 'TALK ME DOWN' is pretty heartbreaking I think - to me it's about wanting to feel safety in someone's arms because it's the only thing to put a troubled mind at ease but, in doing so, it means this other person begins hurting too as they have to deal with your pain, hence the lyric "the less time that I spend with you, the less you need to heal". And of course the production and vocals are just sublime.

Your explanation of TALK ME DOWN is way better than mine  I like how it can kinda have more than one interpretation though, just shows how good it is lyrically. January 8, 20169 yr Author Songs http://i759.photobucket.com/albums/xx240/MarthaJonesFan/Cover%20Sleeves/The%20Vamps%20-%20Wake%20Up.pnghttp://i759.photobucket.com/albums/xx240/MarthaJonesFan/Cover%20Sleeves/Fleur%20East%20-%20Sax.png 27 The Vamps - Wake Up - 1-2-4-6-9-16-21-28-31-… (9+ weeks) 28 Fleur East - Sax - 13-1-2-4-… (4+ weeks) A more commercial section this time (with very yellow artwork)! Fleur East kicked off her debut album campaign with the huge smash hit that is Sax last year on The X Factor, with a mindblowingly great performance. Sax is very much Uptown Funk in its style but it was clear that it would be inspired by it anyway so I don't think it's any huge shock, or a bad thing at all. It's a style that suits Fleur to a tee. I always feel the urge to sing along to Sax, right from the first verse, it's incredibly infectious and it's not hard to see why it was a much bigger hit than the (still pleasant) Second Hand Heart, if we must compare Fleur and Ben. Fleur's album Love, Sax and Flashbacks will be appearing in next year's EOY chart, but I can say for now that Sax is most definitely my favourite song on it, nothing comes close even if it's still good! Now for a more regular favourite of mine :kink: The Vamps released Wake Up with an OA/OS release earlier this year, and my excitement for the track was high after such an incredible debut album. It felt slightly disappointing at first but maybe I just wasn't used to their new sound. I do still think Wake Up lacks something though, and I'm not sure what it is but there's something that stops it being a classic Vamps track, despite having really strong verses and a good chorus too. The song became their biggest flop in the chart at the time (Rest Your Love is outdoing it now though :() by entering at a pretty respectable #12, but limited radio play meant it didn't ever recover and only spent that one week top 40. It's their weakest single for me but that says more about the quality of the other six than this one, and it became their sixth #1 upon release of course. PICK OF THE SECTION e12KryuLcbs
January 8, 20169 yr I remember when Lighthouse premiered and everyone was gushing over it, but I said that it wasn't good enough and that it wouldn't be a success, so I've never been a fan. I really think it just wasn't good enough for radio to take notice. I tried to get into Wildest Dreams but it was TOO much like Without by Lana, and that always kind of distracted me. Negatives aside, Wake Up is a huge jam and Talk me Down is absolutely stunning. Now THERE's a ballad :'(
January 8, 20169 yr Author Thanks Joe  I always thought Lighthouse had hit potential but it just wasn't meant to be I guess :(
January 8, 20169 yr Author Songs http://i759.photobucket.com/albums/xx240/MarthaJonesFan/Cover%20Sleeves/Conrad%20Sewell%20-%20Who%20You%20Lovin.pnghttp://i759.photobucket.com/albums/xx240/MarthaJonesFan/Cover%20Sleeves/Shaggy%20-%20I%20Need%20Your%20Love.png 25 Conrad Sewell - Who You Lovin - 1-3-4-7-14-20-22-27-… (8+ weeks) 26 Shaggy - I Need Your Love (feat. Mohombi, Faydee & Costi) - 2-2-6-10-13-21-28-38-X (8 weeks) Perhaps a random-looking inclusion to my EOY top 30, Shaggy is at #26 with Mohombi, Faydee and Costi in tow. I Need Your Love was a song I didn't hear until it was almost finished impacting in the UK, due to new entries in the chart from #26-40 not getting a chart show play (). When I did hear it, for Seven's Song of the Month game, it was a huge surprise to me, potentially the biggest surprise of the year. It had huge summer vibes, with a strong chorus from Faydee and Mohombi. Shaggy's parts are suitably *_* too (I can't really describe it in words, I feel *_* fits best). The song was almost a #1, it was held off the top spot for two weeks by Justin Bieber's What Do You Mean? so it was quite unlucky in that sense. I still enjoy it lots today, it's a fun track and one I wish was a bigger hit! Who knew Shaggy would impact my EOY in 2015 so much :o Now for the first appearance of four (!!!) from Conrad in my top 25, right at #25. Who You Lovin is his third solo single, a top 15 hit in his native Australia and his second #1 in my chart. Who You Lovin is an uptempo jam, channelling Michael Jackson throughout and doing it in a much better way than The Weeknd managed with Can't Feel My Face ^_^ This, alongside Conrad's other singles Hold Me Up and Start Again, just goes to show his versatility, whilst still keeping his own identity. Conrad's got a powerhouse voice and Who You Lovin shows it off in a huge way. It's my least favourite of the three singles (and Firestone for that matter) but it's still a solid track. Surely 2016 is his for the taking??? PICK OF THE SECTION ztV0Syr_vig
January 8, 20169 yr Wildest Dreams is for sure my favourite 1989 single  It's sublime really, so different for Taylor but it just works so incredibly well! Your explanation of TALK ME DOWN is way better than mine  I like how it can kinda have more than one interpretation though, just shows how good it is lyrically. The video really just enhances the song for me too, it's so powerful. Gahh Troye why do you do this to me :heehee: Cheers Liam  It is pretty different but I like that it has enough similarities to make it feel like a 1989 single, particularly its quotable lyrics (I don't know why but the lyrics to the singles this era are so iconic!) and phrases like "nice dress", "rosy cheeks" and "red lips" reminds me of the chorus to 'Style'. Aw bless ya! Yeah, I've definitely got the impression that Troye's written these lyrics with the intention of them being open to interpretation, and I agree that is something I really look for in lyrics. I've not watched the trilogy of videos yet (I need to watch the chapters of videos for Florence + the Machine's songs too!) but I will get round to it! -x- They couldn't have got a more perfect single for Fleur than 'Sax' if they tried! It is exactly the type of song she should have comeback with and it is yet to tire on me. Wasn't that fussed on The Vamps's comeback though, although I do agree that it's more likely due to the standard of their singles from their first album. Should have done a lot better chart-wise, would have been nice to prove that a fan-based act can succeed with an OA/OS release.
January 8, 20169 yr Wildest Dreams is the best thing from 1989, and the original is better than Ryan Adams' too.
January 8, 20169 yr Thanks Spadz, Ball, Tim and Rich! :D  Liking MNEK/Zara but didn't really get into Sax :nocheer: it's good tho

Taylor's always been an excellent songwriter, particularly with 1989 but it's clear with other albums too, like Speak Now which she wrote without a single co-writer (and is my favourite album of hers for the record). It really does shine through on this song though! You should definitely get onto watching the videos ASAP, they add so much depth to all three songs and I'd say it was the video that helped me to love FOOLS as much as I do. :hert: Sax hasn't tired on me either, which is impressive considering the overplay! Shame you're not loving The Vamps as much this era, the album is way better than I thought it may be after the title track though  Cheers Liam :D Wildest Dreams is the best thing from 1989, and the original is better than Ryan Adams' too. We agree on something :o I've not heard Ryan Adams' cover though! Cheers Regina :D
