27.) The Weeknd - Beauty Behind The Madness
Cody Recommends: "Prisoner" | "In The Night" | "Can't Feel My Face"

Troye Sivan also debuted back in December, but a week at #1 brings him over to the top 30. Armin van Buuren has the only compilation album in the countdown as the 2015 edition of A State Of Trance comes up at #29. Kendrick Lamar and The Weeknd represent R&B with their albums while The Chainsmokers brings out another EP at #26.

I'm amazed at Hailee being among your faves

It took about four months from its impact date for "Here" to catch on in the US, so a bit of a wait for the UK seems a bit predicted.

I have a feeling Sigala will be producing more after the minor success of "Sweet Lovin'" and how huge "Easy Love" became.

"OctaHate" should have happened, even with the giant delay of putting this on radio.

I liked "Hourglass" as well, it was a bit more classic Disclosure, while this was more of the slower and classy kind.

Too bad Thomas Jack took the original out of his channel, the audio is still around tho. Probably prepping for it to become a minor hit anyway

50.) Sage The Gemini f/Nick Jonas - "Good Thing"
Chart Points: 12119
2nd single, Bachelor Party
Chart Run: 35-25-15-15-14-15-11-7-5-6-8-14-21-35 (14 weeks)

Perfect time to put up this gif:

Just about everyone and their mother attempted the slow 90's-esque production that was featured many times before (Drake, Gaga, Taylor, Ari, another Nick song), and this worked well with an actual rap. It was a lot smoother and less raunchy than STG's usual joints, but for some reason, that meant that it caught on in such a different way than the likes of "Gas Pedal". It reminds me of those early 2000's dance movies where there's a giant dance number and the two main characters who are each other's love interests dance in the center of a circle. I would honestly love for Nick to do another one of these songs. This is the last entry for both Sage The Gemini (who has two entries) and Nick Jonas (who has four).

One_Direction_-_Perfect.png

49.) One Direction - "Perfect"
Chart Points: 12202
2nd single, Made In The A.M.
Chart Run: 47-41-21-9-4-1-3-4-5-7... (10+ weeks)

Speaking of songs that sound like Taylor Swift's "Style":

Another song that never goes out of style is One Direction's "Perfect". Also the last one to chart before the actual announcement of their hiatus. It grew on me in a big way, kinda while I was preparing all the year-ends, and I was predicting this to be a bit lower than it actually is. That week at #1 in this chart really helped them. Anyway, this was pinned by many to be the response to Taylor Swift's "Style", with similar production, Taylor-inspired lyrics ("If you're looking for someone to write your break-up songs about"), and of course, this part of the video, with a smoke projection similar to Taylor's video:

http://cdn2.crushable.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/One-Direction-Perfect-video.gif

It's a lot more than that though: they're saying that they might not be THE perfect guy, but they can be A perfect guy.

48.) Ariana Grande - "Focus"
Chart Points: 1244
Lead single, Moonlight
Chart Run: 1-2-2-3-4-6-8-11... (8+ weeks)

Aaaaaand here's another Ariana Grande #1. Interestingly, her highest entry here did not go to #1. I remember me loving this and everyone thinking it was complete shite and the one thing I thought was "What are you guys talking about? This song is great!" Sure, it's a second-rate "Problem", but shouldn't we be used to a lead single by Ari that sounds like something not from this musical era i.e. a bit retro? Her AMA performance was also spot-on; I like the whole idea of Ariana being in the era of swing music and flapper dresses, minus the flapper dresses. She just looks too adorable in those types of outfits - no wonder she got cast as Chanel #2.

Justin_Bieber_-_Sorry_(Official_Single_Cover).png

47.) Justin Bieber - "Sorry"
Chart Points: 12594
2nd single, Purpose
Chart Run: 28-8-3-4-1-2-2-2... (8+ weeks)

Possibly one of the best things Bieber has ever done, coming close to "Beauty And A Beat", is his second single off his new album, which I spammed for a good month. In fact, the most recent chart of mine has him spending a fifth consecutive week at #2. That's how much I'm still into this track. Of course, it's gonna end up doing even better this year than it did in this countdown, but I put the blame on him having a Q4 album. Anyway, this one is also produced by Skrillex and the first of his singles to have a video that doesn't feature him or some girl. I explained a lot of what happens in the video during my Best Videos interlude, so free to check that out..

46.) OMI - "Cheerleader (Felix Jaehn Radio Edit)"
Chart Points: 12621
Lead single, Me 4 U
Chart Run: 50-48-39-34-32-18-13-7-6-6-5-6-7-11-16-21-27-33-39-47 (20 weeks)

At one point in the year, I was going to say that OMI might actually be the next big thing and do similarly to Sean Kingston, and it seemed like that for a while, but then "Hula Hoop" flopped. This song, however, is worth him being a one-hit wonder. Felix Jaehn is an incredible producer and for him to make this masterpiece took his career into the next level (which you'll see later on). This was a perfect summer song and one that simply gained icon status after being the main theme song to the Don't Judge Me challenge on Vine. You guys should definitely check that out.

Run_Away_with_Me_by_Carly_Rae_Jepsen.png

45.) Carly Rae Jepsen - "Run Away With Me"
Chart Points: 12624
2nd single, E•MO•TION
Chart Run: 38-21-21-17-11-9-8-5-7-12-15-21-30-40 (15 weeks)

This was the one track that I thought would give Carly that big comeback hit that "I Really Like You" should have been (at least in countries not called the UK, I mean it flopped on her home turf!) but it never really took off the same way, if at all. This was another 80's/90's infused single with a bit of that modern pop edge that would send the Buzzjack masses into complete madness. For me, this is another track that falls into the category of "the hit that got away". It's fun and carefree, similar to just driving around in the downtown city and enjoying the nightlife, then getting off on the next parking lot complex and running around the streets like a bunch of maniacs, but no one judges you because it's a Saturday and half of the people on the streets are doing that. It's that type of carefree that I approve of.

"The hit that got away" indeed :(

Incredible top 50 so far, LOVE all of these :o Starting to think I'll like the bottom half more than the top half but we'll see!

44.) AronChupa - "I'm An Albatraoz"
Chart Points: 12797
Non-album single
Chart Run: 23-16-15-12-10-7-5-5-10-13-17-21-27-35-44 (15 weeks)

This one also came as a bit of a surprise. In fact, when I first saw this in a forum, I was kinda confused as to what the song would bring. Then I ended up giving it a try back in the end of December and it was one of the best tracks ever, as you can see from the high debut. Unfortunately, it never really had a chance to grow into the US public, despite having a catchy and bouncy beat and smashing everywhere else in the world. If only. This song also appeared as part of a promo for a new show called Recovery Road, so at least its legacy lives on in some form. Why do people hate this song again?

43.) Elle King - "Ex's & Oh's"
Chart Points: 12961
Lead single, Love Stuff
Chart Run: 46-38-27-24-17-11-8-6-3-5-10-13-15-21-26-32-38... (17+ weeks)

With probably one of the most sexually charged videos of the countdown (though not as much as "Earned It" but I think the Buzzjack gays can appreciate this a lot more) is legacy Elle King, who made her own mark on the world through this song. With a folk-like instrumental and a rough-sounding voice, she brings a lot of power into this plea to get her exes the hell away from her (a motif that I just find funny). The "belt out in your car" chorus also helped in a way, because this became another huge surprise hit in the US after weeks treading alternative waters. While "America's Sweetheart" was a nice introduction to Elle King for Buzzjack, it's this bluesy superpower track that shot her to stardom.

Blue Neighbourhood is wonderful, one of my favourites of 2015 for sure. :D Wild

Sage the Gemini/Nick Jonas - good song, delightful arms. :kink:

Everything else on this page, bar I'm An Albatross which somehow managed to pass me by completely (I'll listen~) is great. <3 Particularly Carly RAWM, that really is the hit that got away, indeed. :(

Walking on wires and power lines...

MajorLazerPowerful.jpg

42.) Major Lazer f/Tarrus Riley & Ellie Goulding - "Powerful"
Chart Points: 13054
2nd single, Peace Is The Mission
Chart Run: 47-33-28-15-8-7-8-4-4-5-10-13-20-30-45 (15 weeks)

From one bluesy track to the next, while it didn't perform in the same way as "Lean On" (in fact, it flopped in both the UK and US), "Powerful" manages to recreate the blues with artists who are so far away from that genre. Ellie's voice really fits with this, and you can just blast the hook through any traffic. I was initially ecstatic when this was finally released into the US, but I first gave it a try when other people were watching it climb on the UK and Australian charts. The result was beautiful; I fell in love with the soda parlor feel of the production and with the Ellie/Tarrus duet in the chorus, I was sold. We'll probably see how "Light It Up" does, but I'm holding out hope.

Just wanted to say these commentaries are very good! Enjoyable read.

Obviously liking the more urban entries, will keep an eye out for anymore. :)

I don't care cause I've never been so high..

Ellie_Goulding_-_Love_Me_Like_You_Do.png

41.) Ellie Goulding - "Love Me Like You Do"
Chart Points: 13038
Soundtrack single, Fifty Shades of Grey: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack
Chart Run: 48-31-23-14-3-1-3-8-10-13-14-15-16-22-26-35-45 (17 weeks)

Flopping out at #41 is the first 2015 #1 with a complete chart run. Yeah, it seemed pretty off that this was the lowest #1 with a complete chart run because it just headed to #1 at the right time (when I saw Fifty Shades Of Grey), right before my chart was bombarded with new Zedd/Conor/Carly. I feel that this song was just a victim of circumstance. There was also the off chance of it just waning out on me after reaching the #1 spot but seeing it exit the top 40 during the last compilation week still hurt. It's a beautifully written pop song and possibly one of Ellie's best. The last "What are you waiting for?" Into the last chorus is easily one of the best pre-hooks in this countdown.
While "America's Sweetheart" was a nice introduction to Elle King for Buzzjack, it's this bluesy superpower track that shot her to stardom.
I'm not sure if "nice" is the word I'd use for that 'song' (:puke:)

That put me off listening to 'Ex's & Oh's' for ages but when I finally heard it was surprisingly good, and now it's even in my personal chart.

Never got into 'Powerful', not sure what Major Lazer were thinking releasing that to follow-up a massive hit like 'Lean On'. 'Light It Up' is more like it and that's smashing hard in the UK rightfully.

Thanks so much Ml Hammer! I think you'll find some more of the countdown to your liking!

I don't see why "America's Sweetheart" gets so much hate, but I prefer her singles to that tbf. "Under The Influence", her latest single, is also a bit bluesy.

I honestly thought "Powerful" could have done well thanks to Ellie, but I like "Light It Up" as well. WHY ARE THEY HOLDING OUT ON ALL MY LOVE THOUGH.
