January 19, 20169 yr Author 15 Florence & The Machine - Ship To Wreck UK peak: #27 US peak: #114 My peak: #1 Florence's 3rd album isn't quite her best, but this song, its pinnacle really is up there. The juxtaposition of cheerful indie-pop and self destructive lyrics make for a strikingly effective song that isn't conventionally Florence at first look, but when you look deeper it's easy to see exactly how this fits in with her classics <3 14 Paulini - Air It All Out (7th Heaven Radio Edit) UK peak: N/'A US peak: N/A My peak: #2 A bit of a spruce up from Britain's best remixers transformed this nice R&B track into a rousingly gay club anthem. The chorus soars with such production, which is fitting for the empowering lyrics. This losing to SNBRN's Raindrops was easily the biggest injustice of 2015 in BJSC, if since I joined :( 13 Ellie Goulding - Love Me Like You Do UK peak: #1 US peak: #3 My peak: #1 One of the biggest hits of the year in both the UK and US, this 50 Shades Of Grey adjacent song is much better than the mess of a "film" it came from! This sultry, tender electro-pop ballad had input from pop god Max Martin, the huge 80s-esque production being more epic than anything Ellie has done previously - perfect for the big screen. 12 Elle King - Exs And Ohs UK peak: #85 US peak: #10 My peak: #1 Elle's ballsy southern rock influenced anthem has been huge in the US and it's got a good start in 2016 over here. The song's lyrics present a man eating character who'll leave no man behind, fitting for the brash instrumental. 11 Courtney Barnett - Pedestrian At Best UK peak: N/A US peak: N/A My peak: #1 Just missing out on the top 10 is the highest BJSC entry which was a 3rd placer and record tier for me early in 2015 (most sets of top points) *.* Completely different to a lot of my music taste, this pairs heavy guitar instrumentation with a deadpan, cynical singing style, all carried by Courtney's genius lyrics, to create one of the most unique and memorable songs of 2015.
January 19, 20169 yr Style  Glad to see appreciation for that here. Also loving the two Carly tracks obviously. The title track being your favourite :o It was the one that hit me really early on in the campaign and I still love it, so a fabulous choice <3
January 20, 20169 yr Author 10 Melanie Martinez - Pity Party 6bAPlojfgO0 UK peak: N/A US peak: N/A My peak: #2 The highest #2 on this list comes from Melanie - the whole top 9 reached #1 on my chart. Pity Party samples Lesley Gore just like the #17 on this list; if it wasn't vetoed it would have been my 2nd consectutive Mary sampling BJSC entries  The dark and twisted themes contrast with Melanie's bright and bubbly aesthetic and the end result is a characteristically self loathing tale in which you can feel the desperation and angst this poor girl exudes in every word. 09 Hailee Steinfeld - Love Myself bMpFmHSgC4Q UK peak: #180 US peak: #30 My peak: #1 This storming pop triumph is easily one of the best debuts of the past few years, cementing Hailee as an exciting pop prospect for 2016. Melodically, this song is so fresh and unique, and the lyrics have a real sense of empowerment and positivity (or masturbation, depending on how dirty you feel when you interpret them). This should have been huge but Hailee has the potential to really break out in the coming years so we'll see.
January 20, 20169 yr Author 08 Adele - Hello YQHsXMglC9A UK peak: #1 US peak: #1 My peak: #1 Adele decimated the world when she came back with Hello, as well as the charts :cheeseblock: Although it's just typical Adele, Hello is such a powerful, emotional ballad that nobody else could pull off. A soulful expression of nostalgia and regret, which can be interpreted many ways, Hello is just one of those songs you already feel is a classic mere months after release. 07 Taylor Swift - Wildest Dreams IdneKLhsWOQ UK peak: #40 US peak: #5 My peak: #1 Taylor has obviously slayed worldwide with 1989, and this became the 4th 1989 #1 in my chart too. This dream-pop influnced song has more than a fleck of Lana to it but its mysticism and wonder surpasses most Lana songs. As moody and sultry as the woman who clearly inspired this, Wildest Dreams is so impassioned and wondorous it refuses to let you go once it has drew you in. An instant highlight from 1989, this wormed its way into probably my top 10 Taylor songs overall.
January 21, 20169 yr Author 06 Demi Lovato - Cool For The Summer il9nqWw9W3Y UK peak: #7 US peak: #11 My peak: #1 Just missing the top 5 is Demi's highest entry by quite some way! This was a 5 week #1 in my chart, the joint longest this year, hitting me as soon as it was released. This summer anthem was released at the perfect time as we had our very short spell of hot weather - it sounded amazing blasting out as loud as possible in the sunshine. This is a turning point in Demi's career, being more sexually suggestive and mature than her previous work. When will your fave lesbian experimentation anthems? *.* 05 Little Mix - Secret Love Song eh-zRKZnV2M UK peak: #34 US peak: N/A My peak: #1 This song is almost certainly going to be riding high in the 2016 EOY but I couldn't leave it out here either  This ballad is a huge highlight of Get Weird which is no mean feat, and is currently almost all your faves on UK iTunes. Of course, the emotion of Pt II (and lack of Jason DeRulo) wins out, but the original's radio friendly production has a slightly faster pace. Pt II with Pt I production plz guys xoxo Anyway, this is an excellent song either and is comfortably my 2nd fave Little Mix fave already, showing just how much the girls have settled into slaying even more recently. Give this time and (fingers crossed) a BRITs performance, and this could outsell most of, if not all of their singles too. PLEASE.
January 22, 20169 yr Wildest Dreams is lush. The best from the album and one of the few 1989 tracks I think Taylor did better than Ryan Adams :kink:
January 24, 20169 yr Author 04 Selena Gomez ft. A$AP Rocky - Good For You 1TsVjvEkc4s UK peak: #23 US peak: #5 Selena's highest entry finally comes, and it's the sultry and sexy lead single from Revival. Good For You was an instant critical hit, praised for continuing Selena's move into a more mature sound. As I've already said about her vocals on other tracks on the album, Good For You feels like Selena has finally found her lane, using her voice in the best way to utilise her coy and playful tone. I'm glad Good For You stuck around and sold a lot for a relatively low UK peak, still waiting for her huge hit though!! 03 Ariana Grande - One Last Time BPgEgaPk62M UK peak: #24 US peak: #14 The final track to bow out before the big reveal post comes from Ariana Grande. This was already one of my favourite songs of 2014 because of the album release, but it's single release in 2015 made me love it even more. This is like a slightly more subdued and wistful version of Loreen's Euphoria, which explains quite why I love it so much. I'd love to hear more like this from Ariana, again it sadly had a fairly low peak but sold quite well. This is just gorgeous and cannot get enough appreciation <3 So that leaves two X Factor heavyweights who collabed for an incredible performance on this year's final... But will Black Magic or Sax take the crown? :o
January 25, 20169 yr Author 02 Fleur East - Sax 3JZ4pnNtyxQ UK peak: #3 US peak: N/A My peak: #1 Claiming the runner-up spot, just like she did in 2014's series of X Factor, is Fleur East. As probably THE best performer the X Factor has ever produced, Fleur is a ready made pop star, like a mini Janet Jackson. Sax is hardly the most innovative or unique song ever, but as a pure pop song it really is the absolute pinnacle. Brash, loud, and bolshy, Sax hits you in the face instantly, and within seconds you're drawn in and want to dance yourself silly to the instrumental. From fast paced rapping to a huge pop chorus, Fleur brings it all in the biggest earworm of the year. 01 Little Mix - Black Magic MkElfR_NPBI UK peak: #1 US peak: #67 My peak: #1 So that means the top spot goes to the world's biggest and best girlband. Black Magic is the epitome of perfect pop; a real catchy 80s throwback. The production, melodies, vocals and harmonies are all on point. As I've already said about this era, everythin has clicked into place even further. This perfect pop song is exactly what I crave in 2015, amongst so much overproduced dance with looped sample and boring singer-songwriter music, a huge catchy chorus and a wonderful melody is all I need. The video is just fabulous too, done so well with a pretty funny storyline. All in all, fully worthy of the song of the year and is now my Little Mix fave, even with stiff competition from their incredible back catalogue.
