Does being top 50 really help that much with exposure? Is it comparable to say, the iTunes top 10 effect?

Yes, basically. Because "UK top 50" is one of the most popular playlists on Spotify, if you push your way in, you get lots more streams.

Frans on the brink of a new peak and seemingly has broken his record for highest number of daily streams today! I'm still desperate for this to chart top 200 officially, but I think he needs to get close to the top 70 to counter-balance the drops at the weekend.

Is he still available on any Spotify playlists? It's kinda frustrating we don't know how much of the plays are just through that.

Does being top 50 really help that much with exposure? Is it comparable to say, the iTunes top 10 effect?

Yep it really does! A song usually increases by 10,000-15,000 streams in one day when it enters the top 50 and climbs up very quickly giving the song a lot of exposure! (For example 'No' being just outside the top 50 for a week but since it entered the top 50 last week, it is now just outside the top 25!)

What I want to know more is, where does it give you more visibility? Do that many people check the current top 50 out? Or is there a prestigious playlist it gets added to if it breaks the top 50?
The Top 50 is a playlist in itself which is one of the most popular playlists on Spotify. Once you enter it the song becomes more likely to be streamed, which helps it to remain in the Top 50 - it is actually incredibly difficult to break in and there are lots of songs with a '51' peak as shown here: http://kworb.net/spotify/country/gb_daily.html

Yeah the top 50 playlist is always featured on the Spotify homepage, I tend to go there for inspiration if I'm round someone else's house and want to play some music on there.

To look at the songs around the #50 mark in yesterday's update:

47 -3 Charlie Puth - One Call Away 98,211

48 -3 The 1975 - The Sound 95,814

49 -1 Rudimental - Lay It All On Me (feat. Ed Sheeran) 94,466

50 -1 Adele - Hello 93,121

51 +3 Kanye West - Ultralight Beam 85,107

52 -1 Ellie Goulding - Army 81,619

53 -1 Kanye West - Pt. 2 80,797

54 +1 AlunaGeorge & Popcaan - I'm In Control 77,663

There's quite a clear huge gap between #50 and #51, I've seen it bigger than that too, the top 50 effect is basically the new iTunes top 10 effect I think.

Yes they do.

Also, loads of songs often stall between 51 - 55 because the jump for top 50 can be a bit much. I've seen it happen with quite few songs.

coincidentally Galantis are #51 today and AlunaGeorge #52, hope they both climb

Great, I hope they both go top 50 tomorrow, because that will help them get a boost from the top 50 playlist :D :cheer:

19. Sia feat. Sean Paul - Cheap Thrills [original at #17]

25. Meghan Trainor - No

58. Desiigner - Panda

69. Jason Derulo - If It Ain't Love
