Posted January 7, 20169 yr The BAFTA 2015 nominations are revealed tomorrow morning before the final ceremony this year on Valentines Day! Any predictions? Hoping Brooklyn does very well tomorrow  RISING STAR John Boyega Taron Egerton Dakota Johnson Brie Larson Bel Powley
January 7, 20169 yr I can't call it between John Boyega and Taron Egerton for "Rising Star". It's fan voted so I presume John will win, but I wouldn't under estimate Taron's fanbase seeing as 'Kingsman' went on to be one of the biggest shock hits of last year. I know Dakota and Brie have massive fanbases and hype too, but I do think it's between the two boys this year. A really strong category this year!
January 7, 20169 yr Author Forgot Rising Star had been announced! Would like Egerton to win but they are practically all fantastic

January 8, 20169 yr Brie really is the absolute standout of Room though, in that respect it reminds me of Still Alice. A solid/good movie elevated by a stellar central performance.
January 8, 20169 yr Brie really is the absolute standout of Room though, in that respect it reminds me of Still Alice. A solid/good movie elevated by a stellar central performance. I don't agree, I think as a film it works on so many levels, I was enthralled throughout, and the cinematography and camera work looked spectacular on the big screen. It's picked up huge critical acclaim from a film as a whole and loads of nominations and awards for the film as a whole as well as the screenplay and Jacob's performance, and deservedly so. BAFTA also snubbed Charlotte Rampling's amazing performance but nominated Maggie Smith for her good but Maggie-Smith-By-Numbers performance in Lady in the Van.
January 8, 20169 yr Would like Taron or Brie to win rising star but I've liked John in interviews too. I don't really want Alicia to go lead at the Oscars (and how Rooney is still supporting here despite similar circumstances ), because I think she really deserves a win which she could get in supporting but I don't know if she could get past Brie in lead. Nice that it's opening her up to get Ex Machina noms though. Pleased for Julie Walters and The Lobster, along with any other noms for Brooklyn and Danish Girl. Can not wait for Room next week, the praise is SO GOOD and I thought it could pull off a Best Picture win with the Academy but this has thrown me a tad.
January 8, 20169 yr the Suffragette snub though Agree with this! Bit gutted because two of my top three female performances here have been snubbed (Jennifer Lawrence and Carey Mulligan) but I suppose it is rather competitive this year so some people have to miss out In fact Joy didn't get any noms, was it not eligible or something? :( Still a bit sad that she won't get a nom here but the Oscar race there is going to be really tight, especially if Vikander and Mara are put in lead, they could push out some outsiders like Ronan perhaps? Edited January 8, 20169 yr by Josh Josh Binks
January 8, 20169 yr ^ quite surprised joy didn't get even ONE. I know names can only carry a film so much but still. Yeah was it not eligible orrrr?
January 8, 20169 yr ^ quite surprised joy didn't get even ONE. I know names can only carry a film so much but still. Yeah was it not eligible orrrr? I think it was, but it seems like these nominations are a bit all over the place to be honest.
January 8, 20169 yr Joy is the first J Law perf actually WORTHY of high accolades, so it figures it'll be the one where she doesn't get much love.
January 8, 20169 yr Author Quite good nominations, was expecting Brooklyn and Mad Max to appear in Best Picture though :o Shocked The Big Short made it to best film tbh! And never expected Bridge Of Spies to do anywhere near that good :o Fantastic to see Julie Walters get a shock nomination, did not see that coming at all  I don't really want Alicia to go lead at the Oscars (and how Rooney is still supporting here despite similar circumstances ), because I think she really deserves a win which she could get in supporting but I don't know if she could get past Brie in lead. Nice that it's opening her up to get Ex Machina noms though. I think the main reason Vikander is getting more for lead and Mara isn't is all down to Ex_Machina in all honesty! Vikander's performance has got so much increased buzz for Ex_Machina over the last month so I think more people are moving Danish Girl to lead and Ex_Machina to supporting to try and get 2 nominations  Hope she does get nominated in both at the Oscars as both are incredible performances (would be even better if she was nominated for Testament Of Youth but that isn't going to happen :( )! ^ quite surprised joy didn't get even ONE. I know names can only carry a film so much but still. Yeah was it not eligible orrrr? Same :( And it must have been eligible considering all the other January releases are there :( I loved the movie so much and it is definitely one of J-Law's best performances, has deserved to do so much better than it has done this awards season :(
January 8, 20169 yr Author I think it will depend on whether or not Rooney Mara ends up in lead or not! Can't see any of Larson, Ronan, Blanchett, Vikander (who I'm pretty sure will end up in lead) falling out but can't see any chance of a Maggie Smith Oscar nomination so that leaves 1 spot! And I think after Charlotte Rampling's miss at the BAFTA'S and provided Rooney Mara is in supporting, Jennifer will get nominated
January 8, 20169 yr I think 'Ex Machina' will be a surprise and win majority of the awards they're up for. Very surprised at Joy being completely snubbed. 'Spotlight' and 'Big Short' failing in the big acting awards but bagging noms for the big film award! Opposite to 'Room'. Hmm... Edit: oh and I'm disappointed 'Kingsman' didn't get anything :(
