Is Get Weird still in the top 10? And is it likely to be there on Friday? Thanks

It is, and it should - just about.

They'll never learn. It's the same people who always perpetuate it and think it's 'hilarious'.

It's just annoying

It's a bit weird that Michael Jackson's "Man in the mirror" was his highest charting song after he died when it only got to #21 previously (during his imperial phase) & Bowie's #24 hit Heroes is looking likely to be his highest posthumous charting song.

Was hoping the BBC's article on "Kooks" would have had a bigger impact on it's chart placing.

I owe Robbie William's b-side cover of that song for making me buy the "Hunky Dory" album in 1996.

Was discussing this with others recently. Along with the fact it was a late single from the album, I think also the relevancy of the song to Michael's death had a huge impact. He had so many hits, this song, lyrically was the most apt to celebrate his legacy. Obviously 'Billie Jean' is and was a more popular song, but following his death, it didn't mean as much to listeners and radio stations as 'Man in the Mirror' did. It's a similar situation with 'Heroes' now too, it's the song that moves me most and makes me reflect now that he has passed.

It's so strange, this mentality of people mass buying music by someone just because they die! Did they not think to buy it before? Are they actual fans or are they just jumping on the bandwagon? I did have a listen to some of my favourite Bowie tracks on Spotify yesterday but it hasn't made me rush out and buy his albums... am I just being too insensitive?

Excuse my potential harsh/blunt way of putting it, but i've been waiting for someone to say this because it's an opinion that really aggravates me. The whole "you didn't listen to his music when he was alive, why you doing it now!?!?1". I can hold my hands up and say I didn't listen to Bowie growing up, but his passing has meant that i've been able to explore the artist. It's never too late to discover an artist or music and i'm constantly seeking back catalogues of artists I haven't previously given the time to. I'm a massive fan of Prince after going through his entire back catalogue - without him passing making me doing that, but now i've got most Bowie albums I could become a fan of him, it was just his tragic circumstances that led to my listening. Music like this is so timeless, if you "discover" him as he was prevalant, or in the immediate aftermath of his death or 15 years in the future like many more people will, who cares? It's not a bandwagon, it's just music lovers... loving music.

I'm guessing the six dropouts are Drag Me Down, 679, Lean On, Locked Away, Shut Up + Dance and Ace Of Spaces.

Here's hoping Ashes To Ashes, Under Pressure and Larazus make the top 40!

Man in the Mirror was not a late single off Bad, was the 4th (out of 9)... its original UK position is surprising especially cos the song went to #1 in the US... and cos even the 9th single from the album (Liberian Girl) did better than Man in the Mirror

but I actually think it didn't do well cos it didn't have a proper video...

Good to see so many Bowie albums appearing and them not being pushed into the budget chart like what happened with Whitney's albums.

Agree with this - people will discover old music at a steady rate as time goes on anyway, because they weren't alive/listening to music when it first came out. The news of an artist's death just leads more people to try out their music after hearing about it, and so many of them buy the music at once, for no other reason than that they like it. If David Bowie's music sold nothing in the few months leading up to his death, then the "bandwagon" arguments would be more credible, but clearly he's quite a good trickle seller anyway.

Yeah I think it's a great thing that his music is being discovered by new people and I agree that sometimes it does take a massive event like someone's passing for people to discover it. But my aggravation is more for the people who get caught up in the whole media frenzy and sensationalism and rush out and buy an album by someone that's just died but will then never listen to it again once the hype has died down. And I personally know people who have done that! But yes I'm probably being a bit too judgmental. I guess if it makes more people discover good music, whatever the reason, then I should probably just shut up :)

Yeah I never quite understood why 'Man In The Mirror' became such a classic when it was the lowest peaking of all 9 singles off Bad (although I must admit I've never really rated it much amonsgt his other classics, there's probably 20 MJ songs I'd rather listen to than MITM). But then there are other similar examples, e.g. 'Summer Of 69' which only peaked at No. 42 in the UK, and Van Morrison's 'Brown Eyed Girl' which never even charted until 2013) - I guess sometimes songs only become classics after being played so much in the years following their release.

Why search for weird reasons?

It didn't do as well as other singles because people liked it less, as simple as that.

In any case, it's going to make the charts rather more interesting (for non-Beliebers) than they've been for a while. :cheer:

Yeah well, it becoming by far the biggest of his tracks in the chart after his death somewhat disproves your theory...

Not necessarily.

In the 80s it could have been liked a lot less than in 2009, another generation, another taste.

Besides the circumstances made the lyrics mean much more than they did originally.

'Heroes' will miss the top 10 more than likely? :(

Bieber overtaking Adele in the albums!? :o Although today's surge because of the carpool might change that but still.. very impressive from Bieb <3

Noo Heroes needs to make the top 10 :(

Come on Secret Love Song, needs to keep going

Shame it looks like Heroes won't make the top 10.

And Snakehips is SO close to top 10 now *___*

with the bowie tracks now past their post-death zenith, it looks like they could potentially drop a few places in tomorrow's chart...

i wonder if adele's carpool karaoke appearance will be enough for '25' to remain in the top2/3~
