Rihanna has released her whole album for FREE download. So surely people will stop paying to download "Work" from iTunes if they have any common sense. The album is very good if you're into PBR&B. Pop fans may be disappointed. I think it's great!

The album is only free on Tidal, so I can't see it dropping that quickly. I can see it dropping by tomorrow though.

why do artists do this? Do they get paid more than they would for selling thousands of album copies for putting it on Tidal a day early?

Nope the whole album is available for free download with or without Tidal. I don't have Tidal and downloaded the album and now listening on iTunes!!

Just saves them any chart embarrassment and takes the pressure off having a hit campaign.

 

I think by this point it has been clear the whole campaign has been rocky, so it is better to just get this out of the way so Rihanna can then move on to the next album. At least by giving it as a free download rather than shelving the album, she keeps fans happy.

Yeah, I just saw! Well, technically it still is tidal, but you don't need to be a member to download it. What a bizare move. Somehow, she seems to still have a lot of hype this week, I'm sure her album could have shifted a decent amount of digital copies had she put it up for sale.

 

People have been buying Work for 99p, as well. Mess.

Well that's my point, it's available to those without Tidal. But don't worry I think a lot of people will be making that mistake. When they see TIDAL mentioned they'll probably just assume by "free download" she means free stream or avilable to stream on TIDAL offline or something of the sort, as I don't think anyone expected there to be a free mp3 download of the whole album. It will probably mean it will take a little while for some people to realise but once word of mouth spreads.... :o

She probably had to release on Tidal due to some contractual thing as she supported the launch, didn't she? But like, nobody cares.

Like I said in t other thread, reckon they said, f*** it and just released it as is, focusing instead on profit from the tour and hoping by it being available digitally and also free or on streaming that it won't damage her brand too much for the next album.

According to official charts website there;s no word to when it will be on itunes yet, from their website "it has not yet been announced when ANTi will be available to download and stream on other services, including iTunes, Apple Music and Spotify."

Wasn't Madonna's first single (I don't even remember what it was called) from the last album also #1 on iTunes? :heehee:

 

That was mostly from instant grats though, so it was a bit different to this.
