I've seen 6 of them and hoping I can make it to 8 by the end of next week! Just The Big Short & Spotlight to watch- especially excited for the latter!

For the ones I've seen, I'd rank them:

1. Brooklyn

2. Bridge Of Spies

3. Room

4. Mad Max: Fury Road

5. The Martian

6. The Revenant

The top 4 definitely deserve to be there but not sure on the latter two!

I think you all know I love Brooklyn by now  Just posted about Bridge Of Spies in its movie thread! Room is an incredible and powerful drama with two powerhouse performances from Larson and Trembley  Mad Max: Fury Road was a fun adventure movie and a really good time. The Martian was quite good but I find it so overrated. And The Revenant I hated :(

As I'm hoping to have done the Best Picture nominees really quick this year, I'm going to try and watch all the movies with acting nominations that I haven't seen before the Oscars!

I've seen all of them apart from Spotlight because it's not in my local this week.

01 Room

02 Mad Max: Fury Road

03 The Martian

04 Brooklyn

05 The Revenant

06 Bridge of Spies

07 The Big Short

Room was just stunning and provided the whole package for me in terms of laughs, emotion, score, acting, length etc. Mad Max was a lot of fun as was The Martian but it had slow moments. Brooklyn was just a lovely tale but lacked a bit in overall plot to be too high. Bridge of Spies and The Revenant suffered from being too long even though they both had highs, especially the latter. The Big Short was just nonsense and it better not win!

In terms of acting I've seen a fair amount too so I'll rank them below.

Actor:

01 Leonardo DiCaprio in 'The Revenant'

02 Eddie Redmayne in 'The Danish Girl'

03 Michael Fassbender in 'Steve Jobs'

04 Matt Damon in 'The Martian'

05 Not seen (Bryan Cranston in 'Trumbo'

Actress:

01 Brie Larson in 'Room'

02 Cate Blanchett in 'Carol'

03 Jennifer Lawrence in 'Joy'

04 Saoirse Ronan in 'Brooklyn'

05 Charlotte Rampling in '45 Years'

Supporting Actor:

01 Sylvester Stallone in 'Creed'

02 Christian Bale in 'The Big Short'

03 Mark Rylance in 'Bridge of Spies'

04 Tom Hardy in 'The Revenant'

05 Not seen (Mark Ruffalo in Spotlight)

Supporting Actress:

01 Alicia Vikander in 'The Danish Girl'

02 Kate Winslet in 'Steve Jobs'

03 Rooney Mara in 'Carol'

04 Not seen (Jennifer Jason Leigh in the Hateful Eight)

05 Not seen (Rachel McAdams in Spotlight)

So far, only 3, but as usual I will have all the big 7 categories watched by the time of the ceremony

for now:

01 The Martian

02 Mad Max: Fury Road

03 Bridge Of Spies

Brooklyn

Room

Bridge of Spies

Spotlight

The Revenant

The Martian

Mad Max: Fury Road

The Big Short

A very high quality top 4. Brooklyn was my favourite movie of last year, hard to pick between Room and Bridge of Spies, could easily switch them. Think I favour Room because of my fondness for the book. Spotlight is very good but more factual and not one I'd get on DVD. The Martian sticks out to me as not being very Oscar bait-y (IMO) and it's got here because of the space plot (a la Gravity) and doing so well at the box office. I can easily see why Revenant and The Big Short are here even if they aren't my thing, they seem more typical but please don't win (especially the latter!!!!)

1. The Martian

Sebby robbed of best supporting actor nom tbh -_-

Going to try and do the acting categories all 20 as I finished the Best Picture lot way before I was expecting!

1. Brooklyn

2. Bridge Of Spies

3. Room

4. Mad Max: Fury Road

5. Spotlight

6. The Martian

7. The Big Short

8. The Revenant

The first 3 are 3 of the best of the year, 4 is excellent, 5 is very good, 6 is ok and didn't really like the other two

Acting So Far:

Actor:

1. Michael Fassbender- Steve Jobs

2. Eddie Redmayne- The Danish Girl

3. Leonardo Di Caprio- The Revenant

4. Matt Damon- The Martian

Not seen: Bryan Cranston- Trumbo

Actress:

1. Saoirse Ronan- Brooklyn

2. Jennifer Lawrence- Joy

3. Brie Larson- Room

3 best performances of the year, let alone 3 best of the Oscar nominated lot

Not Seen: Charlotte Rampling- 45 Years, Cate Blanchett- Carol

Supporting Actor:

1. Mark Rylance- Bridge Of Spies

2. Sylvester Stallone- Creed

3. Mark Ruffalo- Spotlight

4. Christian Bale- The Big Short

5. Tom Hardy- The Revenant

The last two really shouldn't be there.

Supporting Actress:

1. Alicia Vikander- The Danish Girl

2. Kate Winslet- Steve Jobs

3. Rachel McAdams- Spotlight

Not seen- Jennifer Jason Leigh- The Hateful Eight, Rooney Mara- Carol

I'm still majorly behind where I intended to be, but just under 3 weeks to watch 12 movies is DOABLE

(I won't do it)

Only seen Mad Max and The Revenant, and I thought the latter was a bit boring. Oops.

Y'all should just admit that you're all still salty because Michael B Jordan was snubbed from that Best Actor award for Creed. I know I am.

I've only not seen 'Brooklyn'. Quite impressed actually.
