also it shouldn't be legal for artist to own such a platform and use it to manipulate the charts but putting their songs only on their platform and block it from others

I get the idea behind TIDAL but to most it comes across as a service owned by load of already very rich musicians and made to protect their own profits under the guise of supporting everyone, when it has fuck all to do with supporting smaller artists. Similar to when Metallica decided to sue fans who illegally downloaded their music and got Napster closed in 2000.

Totally agree - fundamentally they are trying to do the right thing but the way it comes across is money grabbing.

The irony of discussing Tidal in the iTunes thread, I guess Tidal is not established enough yet to have it's own thread :)

right back on track with the iTunes Weekly Thread...

Coldplay's Adventure is back to #12, looks like it's having more of an effect than Hymn which is stuck at #23

Great, so I'm missing the chart :(

That's actually really annoyed me, I look forward to it every Friday at school

Hymn should get a big boost tonight when they perform it at SUPERBOWL with Beyoncé.

Ok it is not massive in UK but will spread on social media. All ready heard a recording of Chris Martin on Capital this morning talking about how special they need to make show.

As much as I enjoyed getting Formation for free, I would have loved Beyonce to have released it on iTunes and Spotify yesterday, I'm sure it'd have done even more than Work, since it has such a big video to go with it. Possibly even her first #1 since Telephone.
will it be on itunes like next week or something?

They don't doing Hymn tonight, both confirmed it :(

I can't see that being true... Coldplay have a current single with Beyonce and she's going to the Super Bowl with them, but they're not doing it...hmmmm

its silly if the don't perform hymn together

i thought that was the reason why they were performing together, cos of Hymn

OK you will see. They both said it a few days ago. It's not a single in the US, this week is AOAL add date to radio, it's doing fine there, and they have too much hits to do in 12 minutes.

Wouldn't that be them manipulating the charts against themselves though? How is that a problem.

I'm sure a lot of artists own shares in Apple as well, although not the same sort of percentage.

I meant in the sense that if you own a platform like itunes you can make your product more visible so that your song charts higher

Why not? It's called advertising...

Next you'll be saying that artists shouldn't perform their song on chat shows cause it's not fair on those who don't get a slot.

Artists have owned record companies and pushed their own products through them for decades. Why should a streaming service be any different?

I think it's different, it's like if Madonna owned HMV and put her album on all the windows and all the top shelves basically

anyway, Zayn down to 0.64 on kworb

Yes please!! :D

Again, that'd just be promotion, no? :P All labels want their releases to do well, it's just that some are more proactive than others.
