Starships  It was a Personal Chart #1 for me, and it's still the best thing she's ever done.

Super Bass is soooo much better than Starships, which I thought at the time was way too pop for Nicki but I ended up really liking Pound The Alarm. I know the Starships lyrics aren't meant to be taken seriously but they're just so bad :(
:D

Colm is about to lose his sh*t at Nicki Minaj appearing. I still think “Super Bass” should be here instead.

Naturally, everything this woman does is genius. (Kate Bush could neva). Starships is the culmination of human culture since we walked out of Africa. Since Starships we've just been marking time until society realises it has peaked and begins to tear itself apart.

Usually you're prone to over exaggeration Colm but I'm glad to see you've calmed down in your old age! :D

65. RULE THE WORLD TAKE THAT 1,035,000

Naughty “Bleeding Love” ended up denying what should have been a sure fire No 1 for the Take That boys. It spent 4 frustrating weeks in the runner up spot (their first No 2 hit in 14 years) before giving up the fight but not before it became the 5th biggest single of 2007 and has been a regular on the playlists since.

64. MAKE YOU FEEL MY LOVE ADELE 1,036,000

http://www.slow-life.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/Adele-Make-You-Feel-My-Love-300x300.jpg

A major recipient of residual sales thanks to reality talent shows, this has of course benefited due to the huge rise of stock of brand Adele. Only a No 26 hit on release back in 2008, it took until 2010 to finally make No 4 after an “X Factor” push, not bad for a Dylan album track from 1997.

63. SEXY AND I KNOW IT LMFAO 1,043,000

The duo’s second US No 1 single couldn’t quite replicate that feat over here but “Sexy And I Know It” did return them to the top 10 after the blip of “Champagne Showers”. It is, of course, recalled for that promo video which resulted in a parental guidance flag on youtube.

62. GIVE ME EVERYTHING PITBULL FT NE-YO, AFROJACK & NAYLER 1,046,000

Pitbull_-_Give_Me_Everything.jpg

Riding high after “On The Floor” Pitbull proved he didn’t need J-Lo to make the top of the charts with this. Co-written by the man himself with Afrojack and Ne-Yo it flew to the top on both sides of the Atlantic but it isn’t quite his biggest seller.

61. WHAT MAKES YOU BEAUTIFUL ONE DIRECTION 1,046,132

I didn’t know who Carl Falk was before this thread but he’s been busy co-penning not only “Starships” but also the debut hit for One Direction which provided the boys with a dream start to their chart career. Not only did it hit No 1 and sell a million, it also picked up a BRITS award for best single, it remains their biggest seller.

60. FIGHT FOR THIS LOVE CHERYL COLE 1,052,000

Easily outpacing all her GA output Cole’s debut solo single was launched at the height of media saturation about her thanks to being the newest X Factor judge and her first marriage breaking down. It sold 292k in its first week alone though it took three years to make the million mark.

59. PARADISE COLDPLAY 1,058,000

Originally ineligible to chart due the “instant grat” rule, “paradise” eventually become Coldplay’s second UK No 1 single after getting a good bit of publicity on the “X Factor” final coupled with a 59p reduction on i-Tunes which attracted those “giftcard week” buyers (remember when that was a thing?).

58. BAD ROMANCE LADY GAGA 1,064,000

LadyGaGaBadRomance.jpg

Aah Gaga mania- remember that? The combo of Gaga and RedOne usually resulted in magic and this was no different, lead single from the “Fame Monster” it came with a typically eccentric promo which summed up all the reasons why we loved her. Following an X Factor performance the track grabbed a few weeks at the top at the turn of the century.

57. LET IT GO IDINA MENZEL 1,086,000

Here we are then with the biggest selling non top 10 hit and the only one to shift a million copies. Composed specifically with Menzel in mind for the Disney film “Frozen”, the song has spent 63 weeks in the top 75 including 34 weeks in the top 40 despite only making No 11 on the weekly charts.

“Bad Romance” remains Lady Gaga's best single (and probably the only critically acclaimed one), I love the early 90s hoover synths and the video was brilliant too. It also came at the epitome of Gaga-mania and fame with that X-Factor performance and the follow-up “Telephone” also making #1. Amazing to think how massive she was now.

I also liked the OA/OS release where its chart run went: 14-10-11-8-5-3-{1}

Cheryl Cole could neva.

56. SING ED SHEERAN 1,089,000

Inspired by a night out in Vegas and taking inspiration from Justin Timberlake, “Sing” became Sheeran’s first UK chart topper with the help of some penmanship from Pharrell. It served as the introductory hit to “x” which went on to become the 2nd biggest album of the decade to date.

55. TIMBER PITBULL FT KE$HA 1,094,000

Pitbull_featuring_Kesha_-_Timber.jpg

Pitbull’s biggest seller and a song which was originally meant to have Rihanna on vocals but she was busy recording a duet with Shakira to oblige. So it fell to Ke$ha who got her second No 1 single whilst Pitbull got the hat-trick, it has 16 co-writers according to Wiki!

54. HOLD BACK THE RIVER JAMES BAY 1,095,600

Hold_Back_the_River.jpg

Off the back of picking up the “Critics choice” award at the BRITS last year Bay scored it big with this single. It originally looked as though it would peak at No 18 in late 2014 but with the necessary publicity it soon re-entered the charts only being denied the top spot by Jess Glynne.
