February 18, 20169 yr Author Thought juries were introduced back to stop those annoying votes for non serious songs. Which is just opinion of people who think they know better than the masses. As for juries being less able to be nobbled, thats clearly not true, much harder to nobble hordes of televoters. Obviously in the minority here. Now, how can i get on a jury so my opinion carries more weight than 20% of uk televoters :P Not at all, the point was to try and combat political/'bloc' voting.
February 18, 20169 yr Juries have revolutionised Eurovision, it's reputation was very low in the mid 2000s nearly everywhere except Eastern Europe but since 2009 all bar one winner has been a pan-European hit, the number of novelty entries has decreased to barely zero and overall the contest has gone from strength to strength. I really struggle to understand why people want 100% televoting back, it's not just you John but there are fans on other forums that wish for the same - I'd hate to go back to the days of the mid 2000s, however fun they were, considering what we have now! :kink: Basically ALL OF THIS! Complete agreement.
February 18, 20169 yr After watching those two videos, it seems to make more sense to me now and doesn't actually seem that bad of a way to announce them.
February 23, 20169 yr San Marino TV issued a press release today regarding the new voting rules and they feel that they are being discriminated against for being a small country. I have to agree with them and this is the biggest fault with the voting changes in my view, the EBU should just either count San Marino's jury points twice or form a special jury of San Marino residents to represent the televote - completely unfair to make up their televotes using votes from other countries. They say withdrawal is an option, but it's not clear whether they mean this year or next. http://escxtra.com/2016/02/23/san-marino-r...s-unacceptable/ I think Albania usually struggle to meet the televote threshold too so I'm curious as to what RTSH make of it all, although for Albania they should just remove the threshold as they can still provide a televote even if it is very low in numbers. I don't believe this would help San Marino as I think their telecommunications are linked with Italy's and can't be separated.
February 23, 20169 yr They should just not have a contribution to the televote at all, or their jury votes should be replicated as a televote rather than something being completely made up.
February 23, 20169 yr Yeah surely it makes more sense to just make the jury votes from the likes of San Marino/Albania/Montenegro count for double if the televote doesn't materialise given that's, for all intents and purposes, essentially what they used to do anyway.
February 29, 20169 yr Absolutely fantastic video someone has made here, it is last year's results using the new voting process and you can watch it unfold exactly how it will do this year! rNNv9bOcSlI Very notable that in the jury part there were barely any noticeable "voting pairs", I think I only noticed 4 or 5 and with the likes of Moldova and Serbia giving their jury 12s to Romania and Montenegro is of course expected with the language and cultural similarities. Cyprus would've only give 5 points to Greece, and we thought their 8/10 swap this year was shocking! We'd have also seen Latvia coming into 2nd right at the end of part 1, the algorithm at full effect now without the televote blurring it - the only negative here is that Sweden got what felt like 10 12s in a row at the end.
March 1, 20169 yr I like that BUT, I was under the impression we still got to see what countries had given points to who with the televoting? Would seem disappointing if we weren't shown that in just a brief shot, straight after the points were put on the scoreboard.

March 2, 20169 yr Yes, we will be shown, in a spreadsheet, after the contest as usual. Really, that's all? Kinda disappointing, considering that only really proper Eurovision fans and forum users like us will even see that, so the public have no idea where THEIR votes have gone (I know they didn't totally before because it was combined, but it was an indication, rather than nothing at all).
March 2, 20169 yr I'm not sure, I suppose when they flash up "and 25 points go to..." they could quickly put next to each country on the scoreboard how many points of those 25 they gave to this country, but I think it will make it too complicated and too much information for the casual viewer.
