It sounds really good to be honest! We still get the traditional votes presentation AND the added bonus of not knowing the winner until the very end!

Also, both the jury vote and televote will both count for something, rather than having a situation like in 2014, when the UK jury cancelled out any chance of Poland getting points from us.

I look forward to watching it 1am when they don't finish on time at 11-11.30 and everyone at home going, "what!? More votes!?" :P

Just get rid of the bloody juries, don't see why 5 people should get half the say in who wins any nations points. We would have had an "opera" winner rather than a dancepop winner left to the devices of the "lowbrow" "non-musical-expert" plebs like us. I personally preferred Sweden to Italy, but that's not the point - more people preferred Italy. :teresa:

anyway, i'm really excited to see how this will work <3 the chances of getting another nul pointer are basically 0 now tho ;_; but it's all going to be so exciting.

Had the new voting results/announcement system adapted last year, it would have been very awkward for Austria when it's time to read out the televoting results, as they received 0 points from it. In 2014, France managed only 1 point from televoting.

Last year's results under this system:

1 Sweden 642 [=]

2 Italy 550 [+1]

3 Russia 533 [-1]

4 Belgium 382 [=]

5 Australia 356 [=]

6 Latvia 349 [=]

7 Norway 206 [+1]

8 Estonia 200 [-1]

9 Israel 184 [=]

10 Serbia 120 [=]

11 Albania 119 [+6]

12 Georgia 113 [-1]

13 Azerbaijan 96 [-1]

14 Armenia 95 [+2]

15 Romania 90 [=]

16 Montenegro 82 [-3]

17 Lithuania 75 [+1]

18 Slovenia 75 [-4]

19 Cyprus 71 [+3]

20 Greece 53 [-1]

21 Hungary 50 [-1]

22 Poland 49 [+1]

23 Austria 40 [+3]

24 Spain 34 [-3]

25 Germany 29 [+2]

26 France 28 [-1]

27 United Kingdom 19 [-3]

A lot fairer if you ask me, but yeah no chance of nul pointers anymore! Which is good because neither Austria nor Germany really deserved it last year. The UK last however is very much what should've been.

But THINK of the reaction shots from the greenroom!

Thank you Vülker!!!

Interesting how Sweden would have had a miles lead over Italy (as they jumped to second place). Imagine the voting read out then (Italy came 1st in televoting)!!!! I agree that Germany and Austria didn't deserve those 0 points as I liked their songs. Heartbreaking to see that Spain would have fared much worse under the new system, as well as Slovenia.

Oh, the possibilities!!! :D :D

I saw past MelFest final results after they announced the new system today. From the nail-biting 2014 finals (seriously, Sanna beat Ace by only two points!!) to David Lindgren's reaction to his televoting results in 2013 (and Robin's reaction when he found out he won).

This sounds fab! The MF final votes are always filled with drama so this could give us a cracking climax to the show.

They have a couple of videos on the website explaining the new system and re-living that Ace/Sanna moment didn't exactly have me in FAVOUR of this

(I like it really)

I just hope that our national final has something vaguely competitive now so we can make the most of it on the night

I think that's rather missing the point of why the juries were introduced though

(and without juries this system wouldn't be able to function at all)

I'm still smarting over YOHIO's resounding televote victory just not being enough. I'd have been the same with Italy last year. This will be fun indeed (although it putting Electro Velvet to last is obviously a disgrace etc etc, how mad would we have been after that :D, I mean, at least we did badly in a way you could hide last year).

And I am really up for losing nul pointers, it just doesn't sit right with me that any entry has a chance of it given how many people are actually watching and having two last year I thought was too much. Getting a nul on one of the systems will still be notable enough for merit. Or lack of.

Mixed but mostly positive opinions on this, I'm very glad we are still visiting all 43 countries by satellite although I don't really see them cutting out 8 and 10 points is going to save a lot of time when it's all the "what a great show" "what a nice dress" that is what takes up the time, so it's a shame they've done that. Also glad that we are seeing the detailed jury votes rather than televotes as it will, at least temporarily, give the illusion that "political voting" is barely existing bar the odd few. Also like the televoting in reverse order as that'll provide some fabulous reactions when the latest UK mess comes bottom of the televote and deservedly so.

My main reservation, aside from the just saying the 12 points thing, is that they are going to "make up" the televote results for those who can't provide a valid televote, so the San Marinos of Eurovision. It just sounds plain wrong, and I hope we get more information on what formulas they are going to use to calculate this.

I do have more thoughts that I've had throughout the day but these are on the top of my head at the moment! I can already imagine Sergey going mid top 10 in the jury vote, then winning the dramatic televote countdown to snatch victory at the last second. :heehee:

It makes sense if you are familiar with Melodifestivalen, check out this video below from 13 minutes in:

They will give out the jury points by visiting each spokesperson as they do in the video above (although they will only say the 12 points in actual Eurovision rather than 8-12 as before), and then the televote points from each country will be combined and revealed in a reverse countdown as you can see at the end of the video above. So each country is now giving out double points, 12-1 from the jury and 12-1 from the televote - the former will be revealed as normal but the latter will be in a combined countdown at the end of voting.

May be worth watching this too:

I think it's good that the winner will no longer be announced 20 minutes before the voting ends, keeps it exciting. Seems a bit confusing the way they're doing it but I imagine we'll quickly get used to it.

Thought juries were introduced back to stop those annoying votes for non serious songs. Which is just opinion of people who think they know better than the masses. As for juries being less able to be nobbled, thats clearly not true, much harder to nobble hordes of televoters.

Obviously in the minority here. Now, how can i get on a jury so my opinion carries more weight than 20% of uk televoters :P

Juries have revolutionised Eurovision, it's reputation was very low in the mid 2000s nearly everywhere except Eastern Europe but since 2009 all bar one winner has been a pan-European hit, the number of novelty entries has decreased to barely zero and overall the contest has gone from strength to strength. I really struggle to understand why people want 100% televoting back, it's not just you John but there are fans on other forums that wish for the same - I'd hate to go back to the days of the mid 2000s, however fun they were, considering what we have now! :kink:
