It is the very centerpiece of the Leave movement, their posters all pushed it, the propaganda supported it, and if anyone suggests staying in the single market (and therefore allowing freedom of movement) the Brexiteers start turning rabid. Not every one who feels that is the central issue is going to be a rabid racist, but some will be (certainly a few percent at the very least, witness the attacks that place immediately after the vote when morons felt that was permission to begin racial hatred and intimidation and starting the process of making immigrants feel unwelcome, which is continuing still despite the law). You are utterly blinkered to reality so obssessed are you with trying to promote Leavers as one homogenous saintly well-intentioned eachandveryone bunch.

 

I know many racist tossers who voted Leave and so does everyone else. Some of them are my friends and family. They arent monsters, but they are equally blind to reality, fired up, or just have a distorted world view, and can quite happily have friends of differing ethnicities, consider themselves not racist, and yet still spout xenophobic and outright racist drivel. People, I have found, are contradictory and illogical, and motivated by bitterness and selfishness as often as not.

The government has issued its response to the petition calling for a referendum on the deal with the EU. I could take it apart on a line-by-line basis but somebody has already done that.

The news media and politicians were more sane in their arguments in those days. They didn't rely on lies and propaganda soundbites. People had actual debated facts.

 

Even when you have lost an argument, and become forced to admit a basic truth, you still peddle distortions and try to change to another side-topic to appear to have something new to say that supports your world-view.

 

In actuality, you just repeat statements you have made before and that have been responded to before. That proves once and for all that you only have personal bias to turn to, like most of the UKIP-supporting audience mentioned. One only has to have a brief conversation with the average Leaver to become very aware that they haven't a clue about the real world issues and see things in simplistic terms with no concept of consequences to them the country and the economy.

 

The politicians who lied and are finding reality very uncomfortable (12 months to go from our promised "freedom" deal or WTO-in-a-strop entering) are proof of that, and these are supposedly politicians who know how to do deals. Total deals so far: shit loads of military sales to Turkey and Saudi Arabia, those bastions of democracy.
