August 18, 20168 yr Yeah, like someone said on Popjustice, the highest entry last week was #108 or something. (Maybe that was from a new artist, though, I don't know). The charts aren't the same, so hopefully people won't scream "FLOP!" right away...

August 18, 20168 yr I have a new favourite bit on every listen! As I said in the Vanessa thread, chart position doesn't matter to be its just a bonus. The fact we are getting solo Sats music is so much more important :wub:Chart positions and sales do matter for someone like Mollie who is on a bigger label than Vanessa is though (which I presume more money is being financed and put into her). Well, maybe not so much with this single, but the one before the album certainly matters otherwise you can expect various push backs and sometimes end up in the album/campaign being cancelled. :( The song is still not doing too much for me. I want it to do well for her though! Mollie's always been one of the better members of the group!
August 18, 20168 yr I certainly don't expect an impressive opening week. It's very possible that it won't even chart. However I do think it could manage an Alarm/Hotter Than Hell/Who Do You Think Of?-like run if they continue to push it and she gets some radio support.

Clearly for the label the position and what it rakes in are important as I'm sure a second single and the album are resting on the success of BTY but for me and I'm sure others, it's more about the fact we are getting music. Vanessa didn't venture down my favourite genre and Una's material is likely to not be my cuppa either based on SATM. The fact we're getting Mollie music in a sound I really like is more important to me than whether this comes in at 1 or 100 on the chart.
August 18, 20168 yr I'm hoping there is a movie style intro/outro in the video! Seems like an interesting video which should help draw people in. Plus all the publicity she is getting at the moment with the single, Olly's mention etc might help with people being curious! Just hoping there's a good set of promo lined up!

She can make use of her This Morning ITV loyalty card for an easy slot surely after 18 performances on the show with the Sats?

It's happened too many times before. But yeah, I'm willing for this to do well enough for her to be able to get to that stage and release the album. It's her first album, so it really does depend on how well she does. Like other members have said, nowadays it's not important to do well initially.
August 18, 20168 yr Not to say that charts and sales don't matter, but I just want to stress how different charts are nowadays. And despite Mollie coming from the back of The Saturdays, you truly have to consider her a brand new new artist. A new act don't just pop up into the top 10 (or top 20, or 40, hell maybe even 75) just like that in their first week anymore. Mind you she will start the week with absolutely zero airplay whatsoever, whereas even when the girls were flopping on the airplay charts, they were at the very least top 75 on release week. Mollie will also have so much work to do towards streaming. The Saturdays really didn't have a strong hold on that, so hopefully Island starts planning ways to get her hyped up on streaming services. It's really crucial these days, she will get lost easily otherwise. So, no, it's not that sales and charts aren't important ; it's just that everything is much more in the long run these days. There's no point in performing the song in the first week either. Again, different times. It will be better for her to start performing it live when/if radios pick it up and it starts climbing on the charts by itself.
August 18, 20168 yr There's no point in performing the song in the first week either. I agree with your entire post except this statement. I think it's still important to promote early on. If it doesn't do anything on iTunes/Spotify right off the bat and radio stations are slow on the uptake, she's going to need something to keep herself out there. Otherwise the release will be dead in the water and radio stations really won't touch it then. I think they need to keep the buzz going for the first few weeks and hopefully by the end of that timeframe airplay will have picked up a bit. Then it will hopefully have enough momentum to keep itself going, and adding in more promo later on will help it to peak higher.
August 18, 20168 yr Yes, but it's not a This Morning performance that will provide any sort of buzz whatsoever. That's only good when you're like #12 on iTunes and you wanna go top 10 to get the extra exposure. Do 'This Morning' even still do pop performances? I forgot which one it is, but one of these morning TV shows has stopped doing that.
August 18, 20168 yr Hoping it will be high up on the new releases playlist on Spotify! I'll keep an eye out about that after midnight!
August 18, 20168 yr Yeah, I agree. But he was saying "chart position doesn't matter to be its just a bonus. The fact we are getting solo Sats music is so much more important", which as you said, we've got to think of Mollie as a new artist. This is her first era, and if it doesn't perform well/to the satisfaction of Island, the album could (not saying it will lol) end up being scrapped so where would the "getting solo Sats music" come from, if we don't get an album? I definitely agree with your post 100% though in that we can't be crying "flop" in the first few weeks of release, coz the charts are so drastically different (and I don't think we will either) but Mollie's situation is completely different to Vanessa's. Vanessa is on an indie/smaller label isn't she? (you will have to correct me if I'm wrong on that one ) So she has freedom to do as she pleases and when she pleases. Mollie, being signed to Island, can't. She'll need to perform as well as Island want her to, otherwise this material isn't going much further. (Just using this as an example, it's a bad one, but I'm too tired to think of another right now haha) There's a difference with us Britney fans saying "chart positions don't matter", coz we know we'll definitely get the album no matter what, so we'll be getting new music. (P.s. Thank for being patient with me. I'm not very good at wording things lmao)

However I do think it could manage an Alarm/Hotter Than Hell/Who Do You Think Of?-like run if they continue to push it and she gets some radio support. Who Do You Think Of, was the exact kind of chart run I was thinking of earlier in regards to this song (with support - that song didn't even get support for a while).

(P.s. Thank for being patient with me. I'm not very good at wording things lmao) Oh, I completely agree with you, I always did lmao, that's why I didn't quote you or anything. :P I was merely stating a few things for the next couple of hours when this song isn't going to be top 10 the second it's out and people will be screaming at the top of their lungs "FLOP!11!!!!! HER ALBUM WILL NEVER SEE THE DAY !11!!11!!! WORST MEMBER OF THE GROUP !111!!!" ---------------------------------- There's a really nice interview on Popjustice : http://www.popjustice.com/articles/mollie-...-in-every-time/ Not only did Mollie actually have TWO offers from label (Sony AND Island), she's actually on a very good basis with the actual director of the label - who apparently is supervising the whole project very closely and believing in her. That's always nice.
August 18, 20168 yr The fact that she had not one, but two major labels that wanted her is huge. Not only is it a huge confidence boost for her, but it probably helped her a lot with negotiations. That could be part of why she's getting so much support.
