BJSC 84 : TOPIC ft. NICO SANTOS - HOME

- our second official BJSC entry, this one is a more relaxed edm/house number that combines enticing vocals with a mysterious backing - it's one hell of a tune and we hope the BJSC world outside of Medhelnia like it! it was somewhat of a spur of the moment entry, we did have something else lined up for a while, however that got bad reviews from fellow BJSC representatives and we opted for this - we hope it can go one better than brave Kallay-Saunders Band and qualify.

heres hoping that BJSC 84 is the breakthrough//the real debut of Medhelnia!

bjsc 84 result~

unfortunately, we continued our DNQ streak, as this came last place in our semi! I was surprised at this, and genuinely believe that if we were in semi 2 we would have qualified - as we would have had a 12 from Cor Lupus and a few more countries admitted their liking for the infectious bop that is Home. OH, and it also turns out that Nico Santos was entered in the last contest, with Waterfalls which ironically was one of my faves. lol @ me not realizing it was by the same bloke.

so where next?? we don't really know, to be completely honest. we have a FEW entries that could do well, however we're really looking for something that will positively BLOW EVERYONES socks off - will bjsc 85 be the time for that to happen??

and tonight is the worldvision final - ivi will be representing Medhelnia with pride there and we are hoping for a good finish - good luck!

we thank the two countries for their votes x

I actually thought this was slightly better than 'Waterfalls' (which isn't really saying a lot but still), confused as to how it did SO much worse. You need to bring something as good as 'Container Park' to one of the main contests ASAP tho xx

worldvision result~

this wasn't exactly a train wreck - however it wasn't exactly a good result either. my pre-competition optimism of Cypriot Ivi Adamou shooting Medhelnia to their first ever top 10 in a BJSC competiton was detonated early on when I found out that not everyone shared my love for this cheeky bit of Euro-pop.

this was someting I spent a long time looking for - believe it or not, credible Cypriot acts are hard to come by, and I was surprised to find Ivi as a perfect candidate to give us a respectable finish. it started well, in fact, really well, just a few votes in and we were in touching distance of bronze medal contention - however we soon lost ground and we ended up finishing in what was a rather disappointing and incredibly underwhelming 32nd place.

it could have been worse, though, we made a lot of ground up at the end where I was genuinely expecting us to slump to what would have been a frankly embarassing last place. what have I learnt from this competition? don't go with something you like lots. my music taste is bizarre to say the least, and i have been shown twice in the space of a day why I should really look for something the receiving public will like, not something that tickles my own personal fancy.

whats next for Medhelnia? well, I've all but settled on a nice Indie record that I really think you will all like, however I have a token bit of strange EDM which COULD go down well, and another really funky dance tune that will either flop or slay completely. I'm going to be getting a lot of opinions on what I should enter for BJSC 85 - after the relatively strong performance of the Chemical Brothers at our competitive debut, we've slowly gone downhill. less said about the last few competitions the better. I am determined to end our painful 2 in a row DNQ streak - so let me tell you (albeit for the third time in a row), Medhelnia WILL, and I repeat WILL (probably not but I can be optimistic) do well in BJSC 85.

ciao!

Woah now, if this is what I think it is :o

It depends if you're thinking indie pop with a beautiful background () or something else?

Is this the second entry I've suggested that's become your official entry?

If I can get you to send a high-energy pop song, I think we may have ourselves a Cor Lupus 2.0!

More of selected not suggested ;)

Cor Lupus & Medhelnia should certainly form some sort of country twinning tho :D

BJSC 85~

*************************

Medhelnia have spent the last few months entering song after unsuccessful song after unsuccessful song. It's been irritating to say the least. Entry after entry after entry I've been extremely emotionally invested in and hyped up, only to get my hopes brought down again and again with low scores and poor finishes. To be quite blunt, at this rate, Medhelnia will certainly not be remembered for being the best new nation of the year. We've entered two dance tracks to the main competition, one with more of a pop influence, and one that just flopped so doesn't even deserve any more info being told about it. We've also entered into three spin-offs - all have been began with extremely high hopes, all have ended with the country feeling dejected. You get the idea. Medhelnia have basically, in summary, been a pile of s***.

However a change may be on the horizon. Our track for BJSC 85 has pop influences, a slightly electric (lol) beat, and strong indie vibes throughout which create a stunning mix of alternative indie and blissful summery pop. Many know what it is, many will have heard it for different reasons, but all we can tell you until the confirmations thread opens is that BJSC 85 is going to be the potential end to the DNQ streak, the competition where Medhelnia potentially shine and finally show their true colours.

Am I right? This remains to be seen. And I've wrote far too much.
