Posted September 28, 200618 yr ...unless there's a re-release. We've been talking a lot about whether 'All I Want For Christmas Is You' could enter the singles chart on download sales this christmas. It looks like it won't according to news posted in the chart forum: Charts Committee makes progress on digital restrictions 27 September 2006 - 11:58:04 The Chart Supervisory Committee failed to approve changes to the rules governing digital restrictions on the singles chart last night, although progress was made. Era, which forms part of the committee alongside the BPI, announced last week that it had dropped its opposition to all digital sales counting towards the singles chart. As a result, the committee was widely expected to approve such changes to the chart rules when it met last night. However, a BPI spokesman says that progress was made and discussions are still on course for a January 1 implementation of the new rule. The next Chart Supervisory Committee meeting is scheduled for November 21. from Music Week (posted by Robbie) So unless the CD single is re-released it won't happen this year.
September 28, 200618 yr We'll wait and see on this then. This topic has made me fetch the Christmas album out.
September 29, 200618 yr That really sucks, it should be released one year, it would make top 3 I think :o
September 29, 200618 yr If they released a limited amount of copies, would it be eligible? I remember last year if eligible it would have made top 10 on downloads alone
September 30, 200618 yr Author If they released a limited amount of copies, would it be eligible? Yes it would. That's what happened with 'Feel Good Inc' last year Edited September 30, 200618 yr by Tim
September 30, 200618 yr they should do that then imo, it would be great to see it return to the chart, one of the only modern day christmas songs that has become a christmas trademark song
September 30, 200618 yr Yep it is, I want the CD single but can't be bothered to get it off Ebay so we need a re-release :arrr:
September 30, 200618 yr It wasn't eligible for the chart last year was it? I remember some talk of it being Top20 IF it were eligible, but it wasn't.
September 30, 200618 yr Author It wasn't eligible for the chart last year was it? I remember some talk of it being Top20 IF it were eligible, but it wasn't. It wasn't eligible last year no. The reason this is news is because there was meant to be a change to the chart rules very soon - allowing more downloads to count towards the chart - but that now won't happen this year. October 1, 200618 yr But the good thing is, we will be able to see where it WOULD have charted if it were eligible, which is better than nothing I guess. ^_^
October 1, 200618 yr Author Indeed - last year it outperformed 'Don't Forget About Us'. Slightly embarassing when a new song is outdone by an 11 year-old one. Edited October 1, 200618 yr by Tim
October 1, 200618 yr I don't remember that? DFAU was #11, and Christmas was like #21 or something wasn't it?
October 1, 200618 yr Author I don't remember that? DFAU was #11, and Christmas was like #21 or something wasn't it? In the midweeks, 'Christmas' was winning. Then you're right 'Forget' improved over the week and made a very respectable #11. 'Don't Forget About Us' then fell quicker. I'll try and find a download chart run.
October 1, 200618 yr Author 'Christmas' on the download chart last year: 22-7-{3}-4-5-22 By comparison, 'Don't Forget About Us' never made the top 40.
October 1, 200618 yr Oh I see. Oh well that is quite pitiful, but considering at the start of the week it was at #19, #11 isn't bad at all. ^_^
