Hmm, I forgot that was still in, 19th is about 20 places too high for me personally but I'm a KNOWN 'Music' h8r. It's got a strong hook, but once you've heard the first verse and chorus you don't need to go any further. There's no lift and excitement or build to it.

(I jest, of course this was merely an oversight on my part in the interest of telling a good story, of selling my point despite the facts. I hold my hands up, what I did was wrong and I hope the people of Buzzjack can forgive me)
Don't Tell Me was my first EVER Madonna video which I saw on TV. I was so in love with it before. Still love the song, but not on level as some others.

Bit of a catch up: Deeper and Deeper is OUTSTANDING and was very very close to getting an 11 from me. It passed me by for a while but recently I've totally fallen for its charm. Easily the best track on Erotica and one of her best ever. Big shoutout to the music video too which I barely even remembered until I rewatched it a few days ago. Utterly charming and brilliantly shot.

Love it to bits

47 last time (:manson), 19 here, top 10 next time we do one please B-)

Don't Tell Me is good but I think it probably is a few places too high (it can go below the several songs I gave 11 to in the last few sets :kink:). I really like the lyrics to the song even the questionable calf one (?). Not a firm favourite of mine but pretty much a classic from her now.

Don't go for second best baby

I thought for sure this would've been a fair bit higher! :o Top 20 is good but it's much lower than I thought it'd be.. Express Yourself was released as the second single from 'Like A Prayer' and is a song about female empowerment, believing in yourself and not settling for anything but the BEST. A true anthem for everyone. A high-octane, catchy-as-hell song, featuring hard hitting brass and drum beats, it's musically a wondrously joyous and uplifting affair to go with the high-spirited vocals of M and the message of the song. The music video, directed by Fincher and inspired by Lang's 'Metropolis' was the most expensive music video ever made when it was released (currently 3rd most expensive) and expertly depicted the issues of female power, feminine identity and gender power struggles that the song attempts to define. Featuring a host of muscled men, the dreary industrial backdrops, and the sensational presentation of Madonna as a literal Madonna high above the lessers around her, it's a fantastically well shot and produced movie homage. With its effect still being felt today (including in notable moments such as the release of Lady Gaga's 'Born This Way), it's one of the most influential songs from Madonna's back catalogue and remains a staple for so many fans. An incredible pop song, with an almighty message and an ever-growing legacy.

Johnkm qween, are you ok? :')

I really thought this had a chance of getting top 10 so 18 is really disappointing. An ICONIC song in so many ways and while it's not a gigantic favourite of mine (as in not in my personal top 5) I feel it's really under-performed here :(

Don't Tell me is a bit bland for me- I'd have that about 20 places lower. It's not terrible though, I enjoy it and really enjoyed it at the time of release.

Express Yourself is one of my absolute favourites (top 3 for me). It's so full of life. But I have to say I am not a big fan of the original 80s version with the weird male backing vocals. I much prefer the Immaculate Verison's slicker edit, and then more so the newer version with the better intro that's on Celebration. (I don't know why there's so many versions?)

Album version is best for me! Mainly because it's the one I listen to most though I suppose. I seem to have forgotten which was which after that but the 'Immaculate Collection' version isn't sounding as good as I listen now unfortunately :(

What a stunningly off-kilter criticism of a song which literally builds and builds and adds continually more layers as it progresses until it becomes a huge crescendo of folktronica. If ever a song WASN'T "one verse/chorus and you've heard it all" it's Don't Tell Me.

Super pleased it made top 20. These days I really feel it's become A-list Madge in terms of how well considered it is by the general public. I can put it on at a party full of people who don't like pop music and get "what a classic" comments. Truly a majestic song.

The Immaculate Collection edit of Express Yourself is EVERYTHING. I don't even acknowledge the other one/'original'. What a monster anthem of life.

Express Yourself is a Madonna classic because of the message , it certainly is not a fave of mine though.

It's peak position of 5 is so surprising , I feel this is an underperformance if being honest. I believe cherish even outsold it ?

Is anyone able to find out what tracks were 1-4 ?

The video and the opening of the blond ambition tour are so iconic !!! Wasn't it the second most expensive video of all time (at the time) ?

That. Is. INSANE. Like, properly clinical OFF THE SCALE INSANITY. It isn't just an incredible song, but the video, persona, energy, most of the live performances and the ACTUAL anthem status (you tried Gaga, but failed miserably) make it one of her most important moments for sure. For it not to even be top 10 is....utterly staggering.

Once again, our dictionaries have been written in alternate realities sweetie.
