An eclectic mix really looking back. The most successful number 1 going to the Scissor Sisters and just allowing what is possibly my favourite song of the year, Chasing Cars, to number 1. Poor Never Be Lonely by The Feeling, kept at 3 for many weeks behind them – a huge case of a chart injustice! Great first ever number 1 though – the infamous low selling No Tomorrow.

A great year for music, with many future classics, not least the wonderful With Every Heartbeat which is still the cream of the crop. A few artists at their peak as well – Sugababes with About You Now and the under-rated Change, Mark Ronson and Amy Winehouse, Girls Aloud, Leona Lewis and Take That. There was an indie tinge to the year with My Velocity (still sublime), I Still Remember (actually I didn’t until I did this), a resurgent Arctic Monkeys, Reverend and the Makers and some rather leftfield CSS. I pretty much think I spammed the forum with Princess Superstar at the beginning of 2007. Its not as good as it was, but a forgotten gem imo.

Another classic year – so many fantastic number 1s I still adore – 2 from Goldfrapp and Duffy (though I didn’t chart the best track from her, Rockferry), classics from MIA and MGMT, one hit wonder Sam Sparro, utterly sublime The Rip from Portishead and The Killers coming back with a song asking we were a dancer. Oh, and possibly the best track of the decade from Coldplay.

Lady GaGa (or is it Gaga?) explosion! Ot’s all about Bad Romance and Poker Face of course, not Just Dance (I had no memory of that being number 1 for me). I love January, as it brings out some quirky indie in my chart – prime example Mykonos from Fleet Foxes. Listened to that the other day and still love it and that and the Fear remind me of being snowed in at my old flat ☺ What even was Little Boots though – 6 weeks for Remedy?! Its not even that good. Kasabian’s Underdog and The Temper Trap are though! Best of all is the BJSC smashing Royksopp & Robyn (see 2014 for more). Shame Royksopp Forever wasn’t a single, that would’ve been a 6 week number 1 instead of Little Boots!

I have always looked back at this as an oddball year for music for me – no great stand out songs (Fireflies aside), and there are a few number 1s that weren’t even proper big singles (The Golden Filter, Jonsi, Groove Armada & Will Young and Gorillaz). All in all, an odd year (more snow memories with Delphic’s January Doubt though!).

Now this is more like it! Basically Lady Gaga, Adele and Coldplay ruled my chart in 2011. Actually, the run from Coldplay’s ETIAW to Lana Del Rey’s Video Games is probably one of the best continuous run of number 1s ever in my chart. Coldplay’s Paradise ave me my longest running ever chart topper at 10 weeks, and I even charted the amazing Titanium nice and early. Shame I made Rolling In The Deep such a late number 1, but I’m sure I thought more of Dragonette at the time. Pumped Up Kicks as well, what a tune! Even Gaga’s last great song – Edge Of Glory. Good times.

A couple of ‘retrospective’ number 1s at the start of the year from songs that I missed charting in 2011 – Hawaiian Air and Midnight City – both very worthy number 1s. Then we have the huge Somebody That I Used To Know and Eurovision beating Loreen – possibly the best ever Eurovision track. Taking of best ever – the best ever BJSC discovery in Woodkid’s Run Boy Run, linking nicely to the London Olympic 2012 related Underworld and Elbow. My Icelandic/Scandanavian obsession continues with Of Monsters And Men (see also 2014 and Asgeir).

Another great year for 90s sounding dance, but this would be the peak for it – Kiesza, Duke Dumont, Sigma & Ten Walls were cracking number 1s. The best song of the year by far was/still is Röyksopp & Robyn – Do It Again, and the year would give Röyksopp two further number 1s (and 4 for Coldplay!). A solid year in Jester’s chart land.

Bit of a mixed bag, but the stand out by far was Jamie xx (which will forever remind me of a sunny holiday in Berlin). Years & Years had their debut hit and 3 number 1s by the end of the year, and there was a 90s indie comeback with chart toppers from both Blur and Oasis!

A great year for music, with many future classics, not least the wonderful With Every Heartbeat which is still the cream of the crop. A few artists at their peak as well – Sugababes with About You Now and the under-rated Change, Mark Ronson and Amy Winehouse, Girls Aloud, Leona Lewis and Take That. There was an indie tinge to the year with My Velocity (still sublime), I Still Remember (actually I didn’t until I did this), a resurgent Arctic Monkeys, Reverend and the Makers and some rather leftfield CSS. I pretty much think I spammed the forum with Princess Superstar at the beginning of 2007. Its not as good as it was, but a forgotten gem imo.

Lady GaGa (or is it Gaga?) explosion! Ot’s all about Bad Romance and Poker Face of course, not Just Dance (I had no memory of that being number 1 for me). I love January, as it brings out some quirky indie in my chart – prime example Mykonos from Fleet Foxes. Listened to that the other day and still love it and that and the Fear remind me of being snowed in at my old flat ☺ What even was Little Boots though – 6 weeks for Remedy?! Its not even that good. Kasabian’s Underdog and The Temper Trap are though! Best of all is the BJSC smashing Royksopp & Robyn (see 2014 for more). Shame Royksopp Forever wasn’t a single, that would’ve been a 6 week number 1 instead of Little Boots!

I have always looked back at this as an oddball year for music for me – no great stand out songs (Fireflies aside), and there are a few number 1s that weren’t even proper big singles (The Golden Filter, Jonsi, Groove Armada & Will Young and Gorillaz). All in all, an odd year (more snow memories with Delphic’s January Doubt though!).

Now this is more like it! Basically Lady Gaga, Adele and Coldplay ruled my chart in 2011. Actually, the run from Coldplay’s ETIAW to Lana Del Rey’s Video Games is probably one of the best continuous run of number 1s ever in my chart. Coldplay’s Paradise ave me my longest running ever chart topper at 10 weeks, and I even charted the amazing Titanium nice and early. Shame I made Rolling In The Deep such a late number 1, but I’m sure I thought more of Dragonette at the time. Pumped Up Kicks as well, what a tune! Even Gaga’s last great song – Edge Of Glory. Good times.

Taking of best ever – the best ever BJSC discovery in Woodkid’s Run Boy Run, linking nicely to the London Olympic 2012 related Underworld and Elbow. My Icelandic/Scandanavian obsession continues with Of Monsters And Men (see also 2014 and Asgeir).
