Posted March 16, 20169 yr Hello! Well, this week sees the 10th anniversary of my first chart :D So I thought I would write a summary with some extras of every year so far, which you will found year by year below. If you fancy a comment, feel free, it will be much appreciated!
March 16, 20169 yr Author March to December 2006 http://s50.radikal.ru/i129/1003/3c/2e46e3b58da3.jpg Orson - No Tomorrow (2) Gnarls Barkley - Crazy (5) Infernal - From Paris To Berlin (4) Keane - Is It Any Wonder (2) The Automatic - Monster (3) The Kooks - She Moves In Her Own Way (2) Gnarls Barkley - Smiley Faces (2) Supermode - Tell Me Why (1) Scissor Sisters - I Don’t Feel Like Dancin’ (3) (7 n-c) Snow Patrol - Chasing Cars (1) Scissor Sisters - I Don’t Feel Like Dancin’ (4) (7 n-c) Infernal - Self Control (2) Razorlight - America (2) Christina Aguilera - Hurt (1) Girls Aloud - Something Kinda Ooooh (1) Robbie Williams - Lovelight (1) Snow Patrol ft. Martha Wainwright - Set The Fire To The Third Bar (1) Nelly Furtado - All Good Things (Come To An End) (4) Booty Luv - Boogie 2Nite (2) Best number 1s: Snow Patrol - Chasing Cars, Supermode - Tell Me Why & Scissor Sisters - I Don’t Feel Like Dancin’ Should’ve been number 1: Embrace – Nature’s Law (2), The Feeling – Fill My Little World (2) & Never Be Lonely (3), Keane – Nothing In My Way (10) What was I thinking number 1: The Automatic – Monster An eclectic mix really looking back. The most successful number 1 going to the Scissor Sisters and just allowing what is possibly my favourite song of the year, Chasing Cars, to number 1. Poor Never Be Lonely by The Feeling, kept at 3 for many weeks behind them – a huge case of a chart injustice! Great first ever number 1 though – the infamous low selling No Tomorrow.
March 16, 20169 yr Author 2007 http://www.stylewar.com/sites/default/files/imagecache/large/images/ROBYN_EVERYHEARTBEAT_THUMB.jpg Mason Vs Princess Superstar – Perfect (Exceeder)* (2) Mika – Grace Kelly (4) Kelis ft Cee-Lo – Lil Star (2) Take That – Shine (1) Nelly Furtado - Say It Right (1) Calvin Harris – Acceptable In The 80s (2) Bloc Party – I Still Remember (1) Maximo Park – Our Velocity (2) Arctic Monkeys – Brianstorm (2) Manic Street Preachers – Your Love Alone Is Not Enough (1) Sophie Ellis-Bextor – Me And My Imagination (3) CSS – Let’s Make Love And Listen To Death From Above (1) Reverend and the Makers – Heavyweight Champion of the World* (4) Arctic Monkeys – Fluorescent Adolescent (3) Groove Armada & Mutya Buena – Song 4 Mutya (Out Of Control) (2) Robyn & Kleerup – With Every Heartbeat (4) Sugababes – About You Now* (5) Mark Ronson & Amy Winehouse – Valerie (2) Freemasons feat Bailey Tzuke – Uninvited (2) Take That - Rule The World (1) Girls Aloud – Call The Shots (2) Leona Lewis – Bleeding Love (1) Sugababes – Change (4) Best number 1s: Robyn & Kleerup – With Every Heartbeat, Mark Ronson & Amy Winehouse – Valerie. Should’ve been number 1: Air – Once Upon A Time (2), Amy Winehouse – Back To Black (2), Kaiser Chiefs – Ruby (2), Kate Nash – Foundations (2) What was I thinking number 1: Sophie Ellis-Bextor – Me And My Imagination A great year for music, with many future classics, not least the wonderful With Every Heartbeat which is still the cream of the crop. A few artists at their peak as well – Sugababes with About You Now and the under-rated Change, Mark Ronson and Amy Winehouse, Girls Aloud, Leona Lewis and Take That. There was an indie tinge to the year with My Velocity (still sublime), I Still Remember (actually I didn’t until I did this), a resurgent Arctic Monkeys, Reverend and the Makers and some rather leftfield CSS. I pretty much think I spammed the forum with Princess Superstar at the beginning of 2007. Its not as good as it was, but a forgotten gem imo.
March 16, 20169 yr Author 2008 http://www.escuchar-musica-espagnola.com/musica.internacional/images/Coldplay-Viva-La-Vida.jpg Mika – Relax (Take It Easy) (1) Adele – Chasing Pavements (1) Goldfrapp - A&E* (2) Hot Chip – Ready For The Floor* (2) Duffy – Mercy (6) Sam Sparro - Black & Gold (1) Portishead – Machine Gun (1) Goldfrapp – Happiness (3) Coldplay – Violet Hill* (4) Duffy – Warwick Avenue (1) Mint Royale – Singin’ In The Rain (1) Portishead – The Rip (1) Coldplay – Viva La Vida* (7) The Verve – Love Is Noise (2) Will Young – Changes* (3) Kings Of Leon – Sex On Fire (2) MGMT – Kids (1) MIA – Paper Planes (2) Coldplay – Lost!* (3) The Killers – Human (2) Leona Lewis – Run (5) Alexandra Burke - Hallelujah (1) Best number 1s: Coldplay – Viva La Vida, Portishead – The Rip & Goldfrapp - A&E Should’ve been number 1: Adele – Chasing Pavements (2), Friendly Fires – Paris (2), Keane – Spiralling (3), Kylie Minogue – In My Arms (2), Ne-Yo – Closer (2), The Saturdays – Up (2), Girls Aloud – The Promise (2) What was I thinking number 1: Alexandra Burke – Hallelujah Another classic year – so many fantastic number 1s I still adore – 2 from Goldfrapp and Duffy (though I didn’t chart the best track from her, Rockferry), classics from MIA and MGMT, one hit wonder Sam Sparro, utterly sublime The Rip from Portishead and The Killers coming back with a song asking we were a dancer. Oh, and possibly the best track of the decade from Coldplay.
March 16, 20169 yr Author 2009 http://gangster.squarespace.com/storage/robyn_royksopp_video.jpg Lady GaGa – Just Dance* (1) Girls Aloud – The Loving Kind (1) Fleet Foxes – Mykonos (2) Coldplay – Life In Technicolor ii* (4) Lily Allen – The Fear (1) Oasis – Falling Down (2) Lady GaGa – Poker Face* (2) A.R. Should’ve been number 1: Empire Of The Sun – We Are The People (2), Royksopp – Happy Up Here (2) Air – Sing Sang Sung (2), Cheryl Cole – Fight For This Love (2), La Roux – In For The Kill (2), Calvin Harris – I’m Not Alone (3) What was I thinking number 1: Little Boots – New In Town & Sugababes – About A Girl Lady GaGa (or is it Gaga?) explosion! Ot’s all about Bad Romance and Poker Face of course, not Just Dance (I had no memory of that being number 1 for me). I love January, as it brings out some quirky indie in my chart – prime example Mykonos from Fleet Foxes. Listened to that the other day and still love it and that and the Fear remind me of being snowed in at my old flat ☺ What even was Little Boots though – 6 weeks for Remedy?! Its not even that good. Kasabian’s Underdog and The Temper Trap are though! Best of all is the BJSC smashing Royksopp & Robyn (see 2014 for more). Shame Royksopp Forever wasn’t a single, that would’ve been a 6 week number 1 instead of Little Boots!

Pitbull – All Night Long (2), Glee Cast – Don’t Stop Believin’ (2), Florence + The Machine - Dog Days Are Over (2), Mumford & Sons – The Cave (2), Eminem Feat. Rihanna - Love The Way You Lie (2) What was I thinking number 1: Cheryl Cole – Promise This I have always looked back at this as an oddball year for music for me – no great stand out songs (Fireflies aside), and there are a few number 1s that weren’t even proper big singles (The Golden Filter, Jonsi, Groove Armada & Will Young and Gorillaz). All in all, an odd year (more snow memories with Delphic’s January Doubt though!).

Sia – Titanium (2) Emeli Sandé – Heaven (3) Coldplay – Paradise* (7) Lana Del Rey – Video Games (3) Avicii – Levels (2) Leona Lewis – Hurt* (1) Coldplay – Paradise (3) (10 n-c) Best number 1: Coldplay – Paradise, David Guetta feat. Sia – Titanium, Adele – Set Fire To The Rain, Lana Del Rey – Video Games & Lady GaGa – Edge Of Glory. Should’ve been number 1: Rihanna feat. Calvin Harris – We Found Love (2), Maroon 5 feat. Christina Aguilera – Moves Like Jagger (2), Will Young – Jealousy (2), Olly Murs feat. Rizzle Kicks – Heart Skips A Beat (3) What was I thinking number 1: Avicii – Levels & Leona Lewis – Hurt Now this is more like it! Basically Lady Gaga, Adele and Coldplay ruled my chart in 2011. Actually, the run from Coldplay’s ETIAW to Lana Del Rey’s Video Games is probably one of the best continuous run of number 1s ever in my chart. Coldplay’s Paradise ave me my longest running ever chart topper at 10 weeks, and I even charted the amazing Titanium nice and early. Shame I made Rolling In The Deep such a late number 1, but I’m sure I thought more of Dragonette at the time. Pumped Up Kicks as well, what a tune! Even Gaga’s last great song – Edge Of Glory. Good times.
March 16, 20169 yr Author 2012 http://filmpunch.org/media/2012/02/Of-Monsters-and-Men-Little-Talks--650x300.png Ed Sheeran – Lego House (1) Gotye feat. Dockhead Choir, Dame Evelyn Glennie, Only Men Aloud, Elizabeth Roberts & Alex Trimble - Caliban's Dream* (1) Of Monsters And Men – Little Talks (1) Elbow – One Day Like This (1) Of Monsters And Men – Little Talks (5) (6 n-c) PSY – Gangnam Style (1) Adele – Skyfall* (2) Of Monsters And Men – Mountain Sound (3) Adele – Skyfall (1) (3 n-c) Coldplay – Hurts Like Heaven (2) Gabrielle Alpin – The Power Of Love (3) Pink – Try (2) Best number 1s: Gotye feat. Kimbra - Somebody That I Used To Know, Of Monsters And Men – Little Talks, Woodkid – Run Boy Run & Loreen – Euphoria Should’ve been number 1: Friendly Fires – Hurting (2) & Blue Cassette (2), Rihanna – Diamonds (2), Disclosure & Sam Smith – Latch (3), Of Monsters And Men – Dirty Paws (2) What was I thinking number 1: Blur – Under The Westway A couple of ‘retrospective’ number 1s at the start of the year from songs that I missed charting in 2011 – Hawaiian Air and Midnight City – both very worthy number 1s. Then we have the huge Somebody That I Used To Know and Eurovision beating Loreen – possibly the best ever Eurovision track. Taking of best ever – the best ever BJSC discovery in Woodkid’s Run Boy Run, linking nicely to the London Olympic 2012 related Underworld and Elbow. My Icelandic/Scandanavian obsession continues with Of Monsters And Men (see also 2014 and Asgeir).

Susanne Sundfør - Running To The Sea, Bastille – Pompeii & Of The Night. Should’ve been number 1: Disclosure feat. Eliza Doolittle – You & Me (2), Foals – My Number (2), Olly Murs – Dear Darlin’ (2), Duke Dumont feat. A*M*E* - Need U (100%) (3) Arctic Monkeys – Do I Wanna Know? (2) What was I thinking number 1: Capital Cities – Safe And Sound & Hurts – Miracle. The year of dance – Daft Punk, Naughty Boy, Disclosure, Chase & Status, Avicii, John Newman…! How very 90s and fabulous. Bastille gave a welcome injection of indie pop as well. Probably my favourite year for music so far this decade.
March 16, 20169 yr Author 2014 http://poponandon.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/04/Kiesza-hideaway-2014.jpg East India Youth – Dripping Down* (2) Embrace – Refugees* (1) Clean Bandit feat. Bruno Mars – Uptown Funk (2) Best number 1s: Röyksopp & Robyn – Do It Again, Duke Dumont feat. Jax Jones – I Got U, Kiesza – Hideaway, Sigma feat. Paloma Faith – Changing & Clean Bandit feat. Jess Glynne – Rather Be. Should’ve been number 1: Route 94 feat. Jess Glynne (2), Idina Menzel – Let It Go (3), Sigma – Nobody To Love (2) What was I thinking number 1: NONONO – Pumpin Blood, Coldplay – Miracles & Bastille vs. GRADES – Torn Apart. Another great year for 90s sounding dance, but this would be the peak for it – Kiesza, Duke Dumont, Sigma & Ten Walls were cracking number 1s. The best song of the year by far was/still is Röyksopp & Robyn – Do It Again, and the year would give Röyksopp two further number 1s (and 4 for Coldplay!). A solid year in Jester’s chart land.

Beyonce and Arrow Benjamin – Runnin’ (Lose It All) (1) Adele – Hello (2) Coldplay – Adventure Of A Lifetime (1) Adele – Hello (2) (4 n-c) Nathan Sykes – Over And Over Again (1) Kylie Minogue – Every Day’s Like Christmas (A Stock Aitken Waterman Remix) (1) Coldplay – Adventure Of A Lifetime (2) (3 n-c) Best number 1s: Jamie xx feat. Romy – Loud Places, Years & Years – Shine & King, Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds – The Ballad Of The Mighty I & Adele – Hello. Should’ve been number 1: Everything Everything – Distant Past (2), Galantis – Peanut Butter Jelly (2), Foals – Mountain At My Gates (2), Clean Bandit feat. Olly Alexander & Alex Newell – Stronger (2) & Years & Years – Desire (5). What was I thinking number 1: Kylie Minogue – Every Day’s Like Christmas (A Stock Aitken Waterman Remix) & Blur – Lonesome Street. Bit of a mixed bag, but the stand out by far was Jamie xx (which will forever remind me of a sunny holiday in Berlin). Years & Years had their debut hit and 3 number 1s by the end of the year, and there was a 90s indie comeback with chart toppers from both Blur and Oasis!

April 2, 20169 yr Hello Matt! This look back has reminded me how similar our tastes in music can be, whilst also completely different at other times. I like the songs below, and have commented here and there: March to December 2006 http://s50.radikal.ru/i129/1003/3c/2e46e3b58da3.jpg Orson - No Tomorrow (2) - this reminds me of Sixth Form so much. All in all, an odd year (more snow memories with Delphic’s January Doubt though!). 2011 http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-NJ5CDyHQxUs/Tp8zT2i3zAI/AAAAAAAAJTQ/5Q9C_xLrSpI/s1600/Coldplay%20Paradise%20music%20video.jpg Rihanna feat. Drake – What’s My Name? (2) Martin Solveig feat. Dragonette – Hello (3) Jessie J feat. B.o.B - Price Tag (1) Lady GaGa – Born This Way* (1) Adele – Someone Like You* (8) Lady GaGa – Judas* (3) Adele – Rolling In The Deep (1) Take That – Love Love (1) Lady GaGa – Edge Of Glory (2) Coldplay – Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall* (3) Adele – Set Fire To The Rain (3) Coldplay – Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall (1) (4 n-c) Foster The People – Pumped Up Kicks (3) David Guetta feat. Sia – Titanium (2) Emeli Sandé – Heaven (3) Coldplay Paradise* (7) Avicii – Levels (2) Coldplay – Paradise (3) (10 n-c) Best number 1: Coldplay – Paradise, David Guetta feat. Good times. 2012 http://filmpunch.org/media/2012/02/Of-Monsters-and-Men-Little-Talks--650x300.png Gotye feat. Kimbra - Somebody That I Used To Know (2) - Nobody plays this anymore. Gotye feat. Kimbra - Somebody That I Used To Know (4) (6 n-c) Loreen – Euphoria (3) fun. feat. Janelle Monáe – We Are Young (4) Coldplay feat. Rihanna - Princess Of China (2) Loreen – Euphoria (1) (4 n-c) Coldplay feat. Rihanna - Princess Of China (3) (5 n-c) Florence + The Machine – Spectrum (Calvin Harris Remix) (1) PSY – Gangnam Style (1) - SERIOUSLY? Adele – Skyfall* (2) Adele – Skyfall (1) (3 n-c) Gabrielle Alpin – The Power Of Love (3) - Lovely version. Pink – Try (2) Best number 1s: Gotye feat. 2013 http://www.labrujafm.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/la-la-la-530x353.jpg Bastille – Pompeii (5) Daft Punk feat. Pharrell Williams - Get Lucky* (6) Robin Thicke feat. T.I. & Pharrell Williams – Blurred Lines (1) Naughty Boy feat. Sam Smith – La La La (2) Icona Pop feat. Charli XCX – I Love It (1) John Newman – Love Me Again (1) Avicii feat. Aloe Blacc – Wake Me Up (2) Lana Del Rey vs. Cedric Gervais – Summertime Sadness (2) Katy Perry – Roar (1) Lily Allen – Somewhere Only We Know (2) Leona Lewis – One More Sleep (2) Best number 1s: Naughty Boy feat. Sam Smith – La La La, Daft Punk feat. Pharrell Williams - Get Lucky, Röyksopp feat. 2014 http://poponandon.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/04/Kiesza-hideaway-2014.jpg Clean Bandit feat. Jess Glynne – Rather Be (4) Coldplay – A Sky Full Of Stars (3) Ella Henderson – Ghost (1) Coldplay – A Sky Full Of Stars (4) (7 n-c) George Ezra – Budapest (1) Kiesza – Giant In My Heart (2) Duke Dumont – Won’t Look Back (3) Sigma feat. Paloma Faith – Changing (1) Clean Bandit feat. Jess Glynne - Real Love (1) Mark Ronson feat. 2015 http://indiecurrent.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/03/Screen-Shot-2015-03-28-at-14.15.28.png Years & Years – King (3) Jess Glynne – Hold My Hand (1) Ed Sheeran & Rudimental – Bloodstream (2) Years & Years – Shine (3) Sigala – Easy Love (1) Years & Years – Eyes Shut (3) Naughty Boy feat. Beyonce and Arrow Benjamin – Runnin’ (Lose It All) (1) Adele – Hello (2) Adele – Hello (2) (4 n-c) Nathan Sykes – Over And Over Again (1) Best number 1s: Jamie xx feat. January to March 2016 http://los40es00.epimg.net/los40/imagenes/2016/01/29/lomas40/1454092369_307102_1454092621_noticia_normal.jpg Adele – When We Were Young (5) Jamie xx – Sleep Sound (1) Coldplay feat. Beyoncé – Hymn For The Weekend (4+) All coming along nicely so far with songs from 2015! I feel like your taste in music has become less mainstream over the years!
April 4, 20169 yr Author Thanks Andre - good to see your thoughts :D Seems our taste was more similar in BJ's early years :P
April 10, 20169 yr I think you've become gradually more indie, because I'm sure I'm still a mainstream bitch.
