March 25, 201610 yr The fourth time James have peaked at number 2 with a Studio Album. Only got to number 1 with "Best Of" !
March 25, 201610 yr Glad to see both James and Underworld both with their highest charting albums since 1999. Same goes to Iggy Pop with his highest placing in his entire career by quite a large margin. Somewhat disappointed to see Primal Scream miss the top 10 for the second time in a row though... Really hoping AlunaGeorge can go Top 40 next week too. I belatedly picked up their first album recently as it was reduced to £1 in Edinburgh's branch of Fopp. I couldn't argue with that price!
March 25, 201610 yr Author Wow, poor Iggy! A top five album so far into his career is nothing to be sniffed at :kink:
March 25, 201610 yr Yeah Team has plenty of time! :D Lawson not even top 100 on physicals, fairly sure they've not registered for this song to chart :') oh dear.
March 25, 201610 yr bit disappointed about Biffy Clyro :( not top 100 and just #72 on sales alone... the comeback of one of the biggest UK bands and with such a powerful song + TOTD on R1, I really thought it was gonna smash on itunes and could even go top 40... alas...

Definitely agree with you on this. For me, it's better than anything on 'Opposites'. However, I feel like it's even harder now for big UK rock bands to achieve top 40 singles, which is a shame. Still, there's a slight possibility it could climb as there's another 3 months until the album is out in July.
March 25, 201610 yr The fourth time James have peaked at number 2 with a Studio Album. Only got to number 1 with "Best Of" ! Similar to the Manics. 4 number 2 albums and 1 number 1.
March 25, 201610 yr Good sales chart this week singles entering nowhere to be seen on the usual steamingly dull heap of ageist streaming chart. Pet shop boys denied 31 years of official chart entries at 44 in the real charts. Alan walker huge in Europe and 13 on sales stuck at 18. It really is time to call it a day on the badly biased streaming ratio. Sales of downloads are still higher than they were a decade ago and they are treated as an irrelevance. Ratios need adjusting or else tracks need excluding as they do in the USA outside the 50 over so many weeks. The chart is so stale it's on a one way ticket to whocaresVille... :P

The chart is so stale it's on a one way ticket to whocaresVille... :P I have to agree with a large amount of your comments. The charts have become so boring with so little movement and few new entries. A larger number of tracks from older artists aren't even chatting now due to the impact of streaming, which I still don't personally get.
March 25, 201610 yr Selena was Top 10 on sales and 22 on streaming yet only managed #20? That's a bit strange <_< Judging by the sales thread the sales between 10-20 in the singles sales chart were VERY close, so the order was fully decided by streaming. Craig David must be over the moon. I think he pretty much buried his own career in his mind. And now he's having two top-40s (and actually which are both top-20s already!) in a singlular year for the first time since 2007.
March 26, 201610 yr Oh c'mon, PSB and others are basically fanbase acts only. Why they should do better on charts than their status in current pop culture indicates? The industry has tools to measure popularity so why wouldn't they use them? PSB was on top of their popularity 20-25 years ago for christ's sake :D Edited March 26, 201610 yr by SKOB
March 26, 201610 yr You need a 100 streams for one sale right? An individual can stream a track 10 times max on a platform per day. That means the max an individual can stream a song is 0.7 sales a week. Personally I don't think that that is an unfair ratio (and yes of course people can have multiple platforms but I doubt enough people have the money, time and inclination to stream a song 10 times a day on multiple platforms to render it anything more than a statistical irrelevance)
March 26, 201610 yr Oh c'mon, PSB and others are basically fanbase acts only. Why they should do better on charts than their status in current pop culture indicates? The industry has tools to measure popularity so why wouldn't they use them? PSB was on top of their popularity 20-25 years ago for christ's sake :D Because they sold enough downloads last week to make 44, fanbase or not (and Radio 2 has been playing it a lot, it's actual exposure/awarenesss index is bigger than say the brilliant Faded which radio is yet to get behind). Just because larger current fanbase acts like Justin Bieber & co have young fans with the ability to endlessly stream the same songs week after week and pay NOTHING towards the music industry doesn't mean that older fans who actually pay far more towards the music industry should be ignored. If we weren't so busy, y'know working and looking after parents and kids and all, then maybe our music tastes would be recognised by streaming as we would have the time to listen to free music all day long. The singles chart has always reflected a wide range of ages throughout it's history, but these days it's completely dominated by the tastes of 15-20 year-old's to the exclusion of everyone else. Purely because they completely cocked up the play/"sales" ratio by making it too big while streaming was in it's infancy. It's not just old fanbase acts either, it's new acts who struggle to break through too. From my point of view, as a huge fan of new music, the charts are just plain old hat, unexciting - tracks I loved and bought months ago are still going up because it's so difficult for sales hits to chart now - even ones who sell enough to go top 40 don't go top 75, some not even top 100 unless they have pre-streaming exposure, which is just madness. Meanwhile, the same people who were playing Bieber's top album tracks last autumn are probably still playing them and getting them counted as "sales" week after week after week. :P
