Darius Campbell first came to public attention after appearing on Pop Idol. Over these last few years he has transitioned into musical theatre where he has regularly performed charismatic leading roles in productions including Chicago and Guys and Dolls. Well suited to the part of Arnstein, he admirably provides support to Barnes’ tour-de-force.

I enjoyed the whole evening and feel mean to pull out separate artists but Darius Campbell as Nick Arnstein was a good foil to Natasha with his powerful voice and stage presence.

The audience of Funny Girl in the Lyric, Theatre Royal Plymouth, are in for a rare treat, as seldom are such emotionally honest performances delivered live on stage in musical theatre. Both Natasha J Barnes and Darius Campbell excelled in their lead roles as Fanny Brice and Nick Arnstein.

Her counterpoint, Darius Campbell, has come a long way from his Pop Idol win with his time in opera and as Rhett Butler in Sir Trevor Nunn’s Gone with the Wind, perhaps most noticeably. She and Darius Campbell inject powerful emotions into both the spoken and sung text. This is a play of emotional extremes, swinging from laughter to great sadness and back again. But, between the two, the audience develops a deep empathy with the characters. Even with her husband gone, Fanny carries on singing, smiling, and making them laugh.

Strange. I can't find any reviews yet. Maybe they didn't have a press night because there was such a high demand for tickets.

I'll keep looking.

On the contrary, Funny Girl can't ever be unfunny because it documents the rise and rise of a comedy superstar of her day.

You know what I mean, it was just a metaphoric statement I made about that production ending. ;)

Don't spoil it for people who haven't seen it yet :D

I think what he "meant to say" (little Darius lyric quote there!) is, it's sad the Michael Mayer production which broke records at the Menier, Savoy and on tour with standing ovations every night, had to end, polly.

Fortunately we know it will live on because it's been filmed.

BTW Chris Peluso is back in the West End........Woman In White.

I didn't know who Magnus Magnusson was until you posted it recently, although I definitely think I remember he appeared in an advert recently for something (although he is deceased so it must have been a recording of him). Great Viking name anyway!

Oh I understand sorry I don't mean to make it look like I'm always having a go.

Sheridan is performing on the 'Strictly' results show on Sunday. She will be singing 'My Man', from her new album, which was in Funny Girl, the film, but not included in the show.

Sheridan has a new album! Wonder if her co-star Darius features in any of the songs on it?

Took a look at the tracks - nobody else, just Sheridan singing some of her favourite songs. My Man which she sang tonight is on it.

Darius featured with Sheridan on the 'Funny Girl' cast album but this is Sheridan's own album with tracks from various genres of music.
