Not always. The Children in Need single in 2014 managed it, but the chart has changed since. I think it might end up at something like #6 officially but it wouldn't surprise me if it was #1 on sales. It'd need to shift a lot - it probably didn't account for much but I wonder how much the NHS Choir were helped by the promotional push by Justin Bieber?

 

I'm pretty sure it is always! All 4 of the previous major Gareth Malone-related releases got to #1 both on iTunes and overall quite easily (Military Wives, Gary Barlow & The Commonwealth Band/Military Wives, the CIN one and NHS Choir). There may have been other Malone releases that went unnoticed, but this'd be the first major one not to hit #1 if it doesn't. And NHS Choir got there before the Bieber promo, though their peak lead was after that IIRC.

 

'Flesh And Blood' is still advancing very quickly (and The Stone Roses are now declining rapidly), I can see it making #1 on iTunes tomorrow. Very unlikely to reach #1 officially.
