June 28, 20169 yr It's been the case for as long as I remember unfortunately. Some people are happy to have 1 listen and send votes off straight away earlier in the week, some people prefer to listen multiple times over the voting period in case there are growers so therefore leave it until the final day. I don't think it's a matter of not being able to dedicate the time, in fact the late voters arguably dedicate more time that earlier voters in several instances due to repeat listenings so their votes are as representative as possible. It just unfortunately has the follow-on effect of making life harder for the host but it's the way it has always been. It's a lose-lose situation in some ways. EDIT: That rule is there but I think it has been waived on occasions where the host hasn't been able to manage that, it just encourages next day results as that is what lots of people want - whereas if it was specified 48 hours then 90% of hosts would use that extra day frustrating a lot of members. I think there's also an element of 'deadline mentality', as the same thing happens in other BJ competitions, not necessarily because everyone is taking a lot of time thinking about their answers, but just because the deadline is there so it might as well be exploited (think how many rates always arrive on the last day...though that's possibly also because people try and create hype for their own). Also, presumably when it comes to BJSC finals a large proportion of voters do actually hear all the songs for the first time during the semi stage, so don't need the whole 7 days to come up with the most accurate set of votes, and even if they haven't it's only another 20 'new' songs to get through. As a participant it has no effect on me, or anyone else, of course but for hosts it's a pain, because it would be an awful lot easier to tot them up bit by bit during the week, and gradually prepare the results thread, rather than giving up a day of your time after the deadline has passed. June 28, 20169 yr I'm not making excuses, just an observation. Maybe it is time to implement what I've daydreamed about in my head since Eurovision this year and group all of the last day voters into one dramatic combined vote at the end. Multiple benefits to this would be that it would encourage voters to not leave it till the last day as if they did they wouldn't get their moment of fame in the results thread (except for the spreadsheet at the end), there would be less prep work (probably 40 individual votes instead of 60+), a guaranteed exciting ending instead of knowing the winner multiple votes from the end and also a shorter results show that may only go on for 3 hours rather than 5. Sounds perfect! *.* (I know no-one would agree to this but I can dream :heehee:) +1 to this :cheer:
June 28, 20169 yr So then how would the "combined" vote be revealed? Will we get to see how the individuals in the combined vote ordered their votes or will it just be a representative of what they collectively voted for? The way you described its representation in the spreadsheet almost makes it seem like voting at the last minute = not voting at all
June 28, 20169 yr could it go Eurovision style from smallest amount of points received to the largest? :o
June 28, 20169 yr Author Also that is definitely a good idea! Maybe if a final still has 15-20 votes or so, lump them all into the same thing like the televoting stats at Eurovision, like "from 18 countries Unovia received _____", I'd definitely discuss that with the mods and see at making that a part of the format.

Most people who are in a rush near the end because they've worked all week probably won't present votes with a host and paragraphs etc. anyway :P

It does tend to be a lot of the more non-pop voters that leave voting until the last minute too quite often I've noticed, which could mean a big swing upwards for all of the alt entries at the last minute!

The way you described its representation in the spreadsheet almost makes it seem like voting at the last minute = not voting at all Haha it was completely a random thought that I haven't thought about in detail, but I guess say if Hendinia got 80 points from the last day voters there could be a breakdown underneath saying who gave those 80 points on the last day. But all the details would be on the spreadsheet as normal and count just the same. could it go Eurovision style from smallest amount of points received to the largest? :o That's what I imagined! :D
June 28, 20169 yr I think it would be incredible and brutal  'Unovia received 0 points from the 21 countries still to vote, this keeps them at 29th position on the scoreboard' (soz Liam :kink: )
June 28, 20169 yr Hosts have often presented multiple late votes in one post as a smaller version of what Ryan's suggesting, speeding up the results towards the end, one block at the end might work but it could also be quite overwhelming. (also I am a perfectionist with my votes but I can't ignore hosts pleading for help and that's the main reason why I often vote on the second-last day)

June 28, 20169 yr Author I do think it will be fun but I also like to see my song gradually score points :P Yes but no offence it's not about what you like as an individual :P I think any new rules and format that make things a bit easier for the host but also ramps up the tension a bit is great!
June 28, 20169 yr I think it would be incredible and brutal  'Unovia received 0 points from the 21 countries still to vote, this keeps them at 29th position on the scoreboard' (soz Liam :kink: ) Ramrynia are currently top with 367 points with just Persephonia left to receive their points from the final day voters. Persephonia receive 195 points from them which... isn't enough as they only end up with 366 in total!!!!11111 I'm surprised by the support by this, may be worth giving it a trial run in a spin-off - talking of which, we will be having one next month so look out for that!

June 28, 20169 yr I will be voting today, the last day, as I often do because I have somewhat of a life and BJSC isn't a huge priority amongst it. But I participate because I enjoy discovering new music I wouldn't otherwise here. Cute suggestion that it's out of spite though.
June 28, 20169 yr Author I'm not saying it's out of spite, if that's the way I came across then I didn't mean it that way, I just would rather that half the voters didn't leave it so a mountain of prep has to be done. if anything good has come out of it it's Ryan's suggestion which as I said is a good way to make things easier for hosts, letting people vote whenever they can still, and not detracting from the contest, as it adds excitement and tension to the process. I'm sorry if I am coming across snappy or bitter or angry to anyone, it's not that, I'm just a bit stressed and overwhelmed at prep and making sure everything is right because as I said I am a worrier, and didn't quite realise that hosting would be so much work and checking, because I want to make sure the contest runs smoothly.
