I have a feeeling that #23 will remain the official peak for Olly, the song just doesn't seem to be clicking. They need to release a killer second single in time for an X-Factor performance.

I sort of feel like this was supposed to be the killer single. I've felt for a while that Olly's relevance is sliding at quite a fast rate now, so I don't see him becoming a major singles chart force again really.

And this flop comes with massive radio support

(@1 on airplay)

Imagine without radio support!!

Yes at Twenty One Pilots - 'Heathens' climbing again and 'Ride' sneaking into the Top 40 :cheer:

I love the Olly single and I'm not usually a fan of his music however I think that this shows radio play is not the hit guarantee it once was, with streaming etc., people essentially have their own radio and playlists at the touch of a button.

I know streams is holding it back but even on sales only for a lead single Olly is really underperforming (8-21-18...)

It is a fair bit worse than 'Kiss Me's sales run so far actually, and it definitely won't spend as long in the chart as that did.

Yea, Olly's not underperfoming just because of streaming. If it had his usual sales it'd been a lot higher

I think he appeals mostly to the older women these days

I really think Olly's previous singles relied heavily on pre-orders to give them that initial kickstart chartwise (I know 'Dear Darlin' and 'Up' were big hits but I feel that's different), I don't think it's a coincidence that this and 'Kiss Me' haven't attained great chart peaks.

I am still hoping 'You Don't Know Love' can get some traction as I'm loving it.

Except 'Kiss Me' sold decently regardless. This new one isn't looking to do those kinds of sales.

I think most of his pre-order hyped singles would've done well anyway, though with lower peaks.

Closer is number 3 in ths US today with 1.1 Million streams! Number 9 WW with a huge jump and still not top 50 in the UK. Insane how slow it is in here, Even not top 50 when it's top 9 WW? Weird.

I think it's to do with the fact we caught on to 'Don't Let Me Down' later than the rest of the world and that's still being big here. Plus The Chainsmokers are much bigger in the US. I'm sure 'Closer' will eventually be a big hit here also.

I was thinking the same but It's not true... Because WW DLMD is still number 4 like in the UK, so... how? Closer got today more than 1.5M streams outside the US and 1.1 streams inside.. UK just late, not even top 50? Weird. And it's doing decent on ITunes with no support.

not sure why but I think the UK is one of the slowest countries in regards to songs climbing on Spotify, I follow a few other countries and they're all much more dynamic (US and AU for instance)

It's because UK is very late bloomer in terms of streaming. The downloads are still relatively big portion of consumption in the UK. For example in Sweden and here in Finland they are practically nonexistent

It is No.51 today

Lol so it's like climbing 7-10 spots a day, tomorrow it will be around 40 I guess and climb from there. OK :)
