May 22, 20178 yr I'd close to given up on chart dance by this point, there was so few of it and the only ones around were missing top 10 and sinking down the chart. It felt like everyone's backs had turned to it in favour of indie and R&B. I didn't mind 'Your Body' but it got overplayed to death over the next few months, I'm amazed at that long chart run - seems so random! I really thought this one had a chance of being a massive hit around this time, but it missed the top 40: _GG3vM_jJwo (Olav Basoski - Waterman) There's one that might be coming soon though which I loved, and was really happy to see it chart well - not sure if it was dance #1 but it has a chance! It's the feeling that I love...

It felt like everyone's backs had turned to it in favour of indie and R&B. Well it wasn't as bad for performance of dance music in the charts as late 2003. :o Yes a lot of R&B and urban songs did seem to take up much of the top 10 throughout 2005. Weird, it really felt at the time to me that dance rather than urban was everywhere in 2005 but that was because music channels were playing a lot of the new dance songs a lot. Anyway there was a revival of dance in the charts in late 2005 from what I have seen in the chart archive with Doctor Pressure reaching top 3, Love Generation having a decent chart run too, Tom Novy reaching top 10, and two quite big dance hits in December that year which we will see. I think overall 2005 quality wise was great for dance but I wish more of the excellent funky house tracks around like Shined On Me, Feel The Vibe and Love On My Mind would have done a bit better in the charts.
May 22, 20178 yr Couldn't resist and had a look...the radio edit that charted in the UK can be found at . Haha you spoilt the surprise. <_< I am guessing you were a big fan of the next one anyway, considering you liked a song from the same sort of style of dance (albeit a much cheesier song) from the start of 2005. :D Edited May 22, 20178 yr by Вuzzjack

May 26, 20178 yr D.H.T. featuring Edmée - Listen To Your Heart Date: 11th December 2005 Weeks at #1: 5 weeks Official Chart Run: 7-14-18-22-18-18-21-21-31-35-49-58-72 (13 weeks) nJLAcNsGbQs The final dance number 1 of 2005 is "Listen To Your Heart", a cover of Roxette's 1988 hit of the same name. It charted 1 place lower in the UK Singles Chart than the original. D.H.T. is a Belgian dance group who tranced it up on this number, featuring vocals from Edmée Daenen - also Belgian. Edmée is actually the regular vocalist for D.H.T. much like Lara McAllen was for Angel City. The cover was born in 2003, reaching the American clubs by the end of 2004, and becoming a worldwide hit by the end of 2005 - helped by Edmée's unplugged vocal edit, much like the Candlelight Mix of "Heaven" by DJ Sammy & Yanou presents Do. It was both D.H.T. and Edmée's only UK hit, and the album didn't chart here - however it did reach number 78 in the United States with the single peaking at a respectable number 8, particularly considering urban completely dominated over there at the time. The music video for the trance version - titled the Furious F.E.Z. mix - features D.H.T. on the decks with Edmée sitting quite lifelessly at the party in numerous locations singing the song. Everyone else around her seems to be enjoying themselves. I always thought this was an alright track, I prefer the unplugged vocal mix to be honest. How about you? Roxette dance covers have been pretty popular including "Fading Like A Flower (Everytime You Leave)" by Dancing DJs, and "It Must Have Been Love" by ItaloBrothers which I often play as one of the last songs in my DJ sets (see below). May 27, 20178 yr This seemed a surprise hit at the time as it sounded completely out of step with then-current UK dance trends...it would never have been released here had it not been for its United States success, as ever a few years behind the times with European dance music. Meanwhile, as this reached its UK peak, an obscure German recording trio quietly release in the States what would turn out to be one of the biggest UK hits of 2006... Just missing out on dance #1 is this glorious bit of piano house from Herd & Fitz, extremely evocative of Winter 2005-06 for me along with 'My Humps' by the Black Eyed Peas and 'Sewn' by The Feeling. I remember loving this at the time for finally being a dance hit that wasn't looped house! E5rbTo8UhN8
May 27, 20178 yr I don't remember that Herd and Fitz song but I do remember the Hound Dogs - I Like Girls track that charted at the time, peaking at number 26 and managing 4 weeks top 40. I did enjoy the production in it. Even though now I realise the lyrics are very  but the instrumental production is great uplifting funky house and it even has some Kungs reminscent trumpets in it. There seems to be two different music videos for it for some reason, this is the one I remember from the time. y7E_RIpXPAE I remember loving this at the time for finally being a dance hit that wasn't looped house! There was a bit of a break from the looped house hits in the later months of 2005 from Uniting Nations You and Me to our next entry. Don't remember that Herd and Fitz song much from the time, maybe a bit, weird it reached the same peak as 'Love On My Mind' earlier in the year of #11 but is less well known now. Great tune anyway. Another uplifting retro vocal to carry on the vocal house trend of the mid 00s in the top 40. Which brings me on to Listen To Your Heart. I think I remember it from the time and did like it iirc, much more reflective than many dance hits around at the time so stood out. I lumped it in since with the other two epic dance ballads, You're A Superstar and Take Me To The Clouds Above, but Listen To My Heart is definitely my favourite. I prefer it to the orginal Roxette song. What a great way to finish 2005's dance number 1s. It arguably sparked a slight eurotrance revival in the top 40 in 2006 with Elysium (I Go Crazy) and Micky Modelle's two top 40 hits. DHT and Edmee were both of course acts from Belgium which really seemed to be the centre for eurotrance with Ian van Dahl, Lasgo, Milk Inc, Kira and Dee Dee from there too. Roxette dance covers have been pretty popular including "Fading Like A Flower (Everytime You Leave)" by Dancing DJs Remember that one and liked it at the time. Looking at it now it seems a hybrid of the new at the time looped house trend and the older early 00s Clubland UK hardstyle influence for the climax of the song. Still like it a lot. May 27, 20178 yr Also making the charts on the first week of January 2006 6DDOcWMl0VE #20. Very cheesy funky house tune which was on the music channels loads at the time. Really liked it at the time, especially the chorus. Thought of it as pop rather than dance at the time for some reason, and I really liked how uplifting it was. #36 Naughty Boy - Phat Beach (I'll be Ready) http://classic.beatport.com/release/moment...es-pt-1/2006976 Don't remember this from the time at all. Mashup of the Baywatch theme tune with the instrumental from the 1999 track Phat Planet by Leftfield. Good tune, sounds different to most of the 80s remixes at the time. There was also a Uniting Nations remix of it, which was probably a big selling point for the single. I like it actually better than the Sunblock version because it retains the entire song of the original while still having the uplifting euro-house sound. I still really like the Sunblock one though. May 28, 20178 yr As it goes I played the Aaron Smith track in my DJ set a couple of weeks ago, and the Sunblock version of the song you mention above last night

June 3, 20178 yr Sunblock - I'll Be Ready http://images.juno.co.uk/full/CS202905-01A-BIG.jpg Date: 15th January 2006 Weeks at #1: 2 weeks Official Chart Run: 4-7-8-11-13-17-24-31-39-54-62 (11 weeks) wLJ8p-0fKeQ The influence of the 1980s on mid 2000s dance music reached new levels with this track by Sunblock, taking the Baywatch theme "I'm Always Here" and turning it into a barnstorming dance anthem, fitting in well with the sound of the time. As it goes, Baywatch started right at the end of the decade and was most prominent in the 90s, but still just about fits in with the theme. Sunblock are Swedes Magnus Nordin and Martin Pihl featuring dancers Oksana Andersson, Rebecca Simonsson and Pernilla Lundberg. "I'll Be Ready" was a number 4 hit for them in January 2006, spending 9 weeks in the top 40, but flying out of the top 75 quickly after. It will be no surprise that the music video is Baywatch themed, playing on the song's key element. As previously mentioned in this thread, dance videos by this point had become very much about sex. Sunblock went on to have further hits - including a cover of Robin Beck's 1988 number 1 "The First Time", and Corona's "Baby Baby". Their album "I'll Be Ready - The Album" failed to chart. Edited June 5, 20178 yr by Lenny
June 3, 20178 yr I loved this Baywatch-theme cover  And now that the film is in the movies it doesn't sound too dated  Ps: 2005 was - apart from 1-2 great tracks - a pretty forgettable year for music and dance music as well.
June 3, 20178 yr Missed a track during Uniting Nations' You and Me's week to post, and its this one that I said before I remembered a lot being on music channels, although I'm the only one who does here probably.... w9IY_-b_L2s Really liked this at the time. Remember the video with the airport too. This is also notable because Alex Gaudino was in the duo Lil' Love that did this amazing imo remix of an older track and he will appear later in the thread! This track reached number 34 in the chart. Should have done a lot better though considering its airplay. I bought the Lil' Love single in fact I also have a promo version of it as I was itching to get my hands on it before its official release. A few weeks before it was released I was expecting it to be the Lola's Theme of 2005, I was gobsmacked and incredibly disappointed that it didn't even go top 30! D.H.T. featuring Edmée - Listen To Your Heart It was both D.H.T. and Edmée's only UK hit, and the album didn't chart here - however it did reach number 78 in the United States with the single peaking at a respectable number 8, particularly considering urban completely dominated over there at the time. Loved both versions of this and was pleased it managed top ten in the UK against all trends. I also LOVE their album, as in it would be in my all-time top 100 albums, it actually had some thought put into it rather than the other 10 songs being inferior copycat versions of the hit. , and their cover of in particular were especially good tracks which I still listen to a lot now and I think at least one of those could have provided them with another hit with the right push. A few weeks before it was released I was expecting it to be the Lola's Theme of 2005, I was gobsmacked and incredibly disappointed that it didn't even go top 30! Was on the music channels a lot. Love this style of production, that's probably why I am a big fan of Watermat ft Kelli-Leigh - Won't Stop at the minute. Anyway, the Sunblock track is very good, I heard it a lot at the time and I liked it. Thankfully I heard more of the music than saw the video. Wasn't really a surprise when it was released as I was used to hearing the 80s remixes and their style of production by that point. The next dance number one is another 80s remix and is better than I'll Be Ready listening to it now though imo. First Time I actually prefer though to I'll Be Ready. Their remix of Baby Baby is good too. Only 1 more dance track entering the top 40(apart from our next dance number 1) during the time of I'll be ready at number 1. fEu-IThDwUs #38 Don't remember it from the time, quite good but not as good imo as In My Arms, Drop The Pressure or Doctor Pressure, the female spoken word vocals are perhaps inspired a bit by Goldfrapp - Ooh La La (a big 2005 hit) as the style of vocals does remind me a bit of it (and also those in the later spoken word electro songs like The Creeps by Fedde le Grand and Camille Jones) Edited June 3, 20178 yr by Dusty Muffin
June 5, 20178 yr Hi_Tack - Say Say Say (Waiting 4 U) http://www.livingelectro.com/files/images/s/8715/say-say-say-ori-tzadok-daniel-dayan-electro-mix_large.jpg Date: 29th January 2006 Weeks at #1: 2 weeks Official Chart Run: 8-4-6-9-11-12-18-23-30-42-54-44-52-59-56-68 (16 weeks) VVGJ6f_pAdA "Say Say Say (Waiting 4 U)" was a big hit in the UK in early 2006, heavily featuring a looped sample of Michael Jackson's vocals from his 1982 duet with Paul McCartney "Say, Say, Say" which originally reached number 2. Hi_Tack were responsible for bringing this classic back to the fore in its new form. They are made up of Dutch DJ trio Koen Groeneveld (aka DJ Boozy Woozy), Addy van der Zwan (aka Itty Bitty) and Jan Voermans (Greatski) - and have been known by a vast number of different aliases including Klubbheads ("Klubbhopping" - #10 in 1995, "Discohopping", "Kickin' Hard") and Drunkenmunky. Under any alias, "Say Say Say (Waiting 4 U)" was their most successful hit, also peaking in the top 10 in Finland, Ireland and the European Hot 100. They had one further UK top 40 hit, a take on David Bowie's "Just Dance" which scraped into the top 40 at number 38 just over a year and a half later. The music video for "Say Say Say (Waiting 4 U)" again is very typical of the times; basically sex sold dance music back then. I personally absolutely loved this track, I played it heavily in that early period of 2006 and it felt like dance had the potential to come back to the core that year. June 5, 20178 yr I'll Be Ready - easily one of my favourites of the looped house age. As I think I've written here before, the original Baywatch theme had undergone a major revival in clubs by the mid-noughties and by 2005 a ton of different DJs were making cash-in remixes of it - Sunblock's was the most chart-friendly and managed to get the most airplay and promotion out of them all. I was slightly amazed when they had a couple of follow-up "hits" as by their name I assumed they were just gonna be a random one-hit wonder act - tons of unsold cut-price copies of their album were a regular sight on HMV shelves by the end of the noughties! The version I remember hearing the most of Muscle Car was the much beefier Sander Kleinenberg remix, as heard below: YUHQ0u3FhKo I listened to Say Say Say a lot at the time, but mostly only because it was one of the few dance tracks around. Not one I revisit these days and god knows how they cleared for copyright vocals by Michael Jackson of all people - were they re-recorded or was he genuinely that desperate for money after his trial? See also another looped house hit to follow in a few months...
June 5, 20178 yr Author 'I'll Be Ready' and 'Say Say Say' were both brilliant at the time, perhaps less-so now but I still give them a listen every now and then. We'll (technically) see another appearance from Hi_Tack later in the year as their remix of a certain song also was a Dance #1.
June 5, 20178 yr Say Say Say (Waiting 4 U) I remember a lot from the time, of course it was on the music channels loads, liked it at the time, but appreciate it more now, it has definitely aged much better for me than 'I'll Be Ready'. One of the best of the mid 00s looped house dance hits, I like it because it is more disco influenced in its production too than most of them, I particularly like the use of the dramatic disco strings in it every so often. Got confused at first when another certain Michael Jackson remix started to get played when music channels started to tire of Say Say Say, soon realised they were different songs though.
