February 19, 20178 yr The next two dance number 1s are both rather cheesy eurodance songs, 2004 seemed to have quite few of these making the chart. Calm down, you're not supposed to know them yet! Also gotta love Break My Stride! I forgot about that until now!
February 19, 20178 yr Author Not as good as the original, but being in English it had a better chance at cracking the UK than the original Greek version. Saying that, foreign language didn't stop a '04 megahit we should be seeing very soon!Actually, we decided that 'Dragostea Din Tei' won't be appearing as it's more pop than it is dance.
February 19, 20178 yr Calm down, you're not supposed to know them yet! Also gotta love Break My Stride! I forgot about that until now! Well the next one is a great trancepop tune imo from an act clearly inspired on one of the original trancepop acts in the late 90s/2000, not a big fan of the dance number one after that though. February 19, 20178 yr where did you get that Mass Destruction was a hit in the US?? It was actually quite the opposite, until that moment, most of her songs had made it to the US Dance Chart but Mass Destruction actually failed to do so... didn'øt make the hot 100 either

February 19, 20178 yr Faithless - Mass Destruction An unconventional dance hit - it was also their first hit in the USA. "Insomnia" did chart on Hot100 and peaked at #62... I haven't seen this on that chart though. Edited February 19, 20178 yr by jszmiles
February 20, 20178 yr Actually, we decided that 'Dragostea Din Tei' won't be appearing as it's more pop than it is dance. Fair choice - it stood out more as dance at the time, but probably because most British-made pop was leaning towards American R&B by then (and the odd bit of indie). Across Europe it would have indeed been pop.

Across Europe it would have indeed been pop. There is one dance song from a British pop act in 2005, Clea and Da Playaz - We Don't Have To Take Our Clothes Off, an 80s cover with the sort of Shapeshifters style production (also showing how covers of 80s songs tend to eventually appear with each dance trend). Also there was one quite dancey American R&B song in 2004 - Destiny's Child - Lose My Breath. Edited February 20, 20178 yr by The Wise Sultan
February 20, 20178 yr 'Lose My Breath' is just an upbeat urban hit, not dance music. An absolute banger may I add! The Clea one is not half as good as many of the other 80s dance re-works.

February 20, 20178 yr Candee Jay - If I Were You Date 13th June 2004 2 Weeks Official Chart Run 14-19-29-36-41-64 (6 weeks) sDVPovVvIIA 'If I Were You' was Dutch dance act Candee Jay's debut single and subsequently the first to hit the UK Top 40 Singles Chart, hitting the number 14 spot in June of 2004. Candee Jay was a dance group fronted by vocalist Ilze Lankhaar, and supported by dancers Jezebel Zwiers and Elske Cinibulk. It was a project aimed at replicating the success of Alice Deejay, but it was seemingly just too little too late with the Northern European dance sound of that era now really starting to lose popularity following the likes of Ian Van Dahl, Lasgo and Milk Inc. The video shows the group performing by a pool - it's surprising they weren't whistled at by the lifeguard for dangerous behaviour. 'If I Were You' was the lead single from their album 'Electrifying'. They would go on to have one further top 40 hit, while 'Electrifying' would hit the not so electrifying peak position of number 60 in the UK Album Chart. Purchase on iTunes Stream on Apple Music
February 20, 20178 yr I thought I'd completely forgotten the track when I was given my list of 4 to do but completely came back to me as I picked it up this evening... it certainly was nothing we hadn't heard about 100 times over the past few years, but a decent enough track. Peaking in the teens was about right for the times.
February 20, 20178 yr Author That song sounds very 2002, probably would've been a top 5 then - they really were too late to jump on that trend. It's not bad but nothing that Ian Van Dahl/Lasgo hadn't already done, quite forgettable really and not one I go back to.
February 20, 20178 yr Candee Jay - If I Were You is one of the better trancepop tunes of 2004, along with Styles and Breeze - You're Shining (wouldn't have liked either though because of the cheesy vocal) and my favourite Ultrabeat's Better Than Life, which I actually liked at the time, I think because of the less cheesy vocal on that one. The Clea one is not half as good as many of the other 80s dance re-works. I remember that one from the time (testament to how I must have been watching The Box quite a bit to have remembered a low top 40 hit like it) and quite liked it, certainly the house music revival seemed a lot better to me at the time than the eurotrance before it. Now of course I like both genres. Now, I definitely wouldn't say the Clea one was the best of the 80s covers of the 00s, my favourite 80s dance cover of the 00s is Kelly Llorenna's Tell It To My Heart and my favourite 80s remix is Groove Cutters - We Close Our Eyes, although there are some other great ones too, including one at the end of 2004.

Or-EXqHZDAo Check this one out - it was also from 2004 but never made it over to the UK, to me it sounds like it could have been a massive hit a la 'Call On Me' (it's pretty similar) - it's a take on Africa by Toto

It's not bad but nothing that Ian Van Dahl/Lasgo hadn't already done, quite forgettable really and not one I go back to. I would say more 2003 than 2002 as vocal trance became a bit more poppy it would have been a top 5 hit. I wouldn't mind even poppier eurotrance like this coming back now though to the charts. Its good Marshmello kind of, whether knowingly or unknowingly brought back a eurotrance sort of sound leading up to the trap drop on Alone.

Eric Prydz has a unique and brilliant production style that even on COM (his most mainstream hit) is noticeable. This cover sounds more like something that'd make the chart at #35 for one week.

We Close Our Eyes is less commercial sounding than most of them, and also the sample is great and it is also quite progressive too in how it builds up to climaxes so it has to be my favourite of the 80s remixes. By the way there is a tropical sounding instrumental bit in the original version of Toto's Africa, so I am surprised we have not had a tropical house remix of 'Africa' using it becoming popular!
February 21, 20178 yr Candee Jay!! Had completely forgotten about her - the singles got a lot of airplay but even at the time I remember thinking they sounded about two years behind the times. The one I remember more was the follow-up...which I'm not sure if we'll see here or not? Sounds exactly like the kind of music that did much better in Scotland and the North of England than the South - and indeed a quick glance at the Scottish Singles Chart for that week shows If I Were You reached the top ten in that region.
February 21, 20178 yr Candee Jay is such a tacky stage name though! Was it just eurotrance, trance and hardstyle tracks that did better in Scotland. If so, why?
