The worst single of her career

That's 4 sure, but 911 is coming to fight for this spot.

Yeah it is definitely not a hit single through its sound, but it's an explosive, interesting song and I am glad it was released. Lead single for (in particular) the Joanne album? No though x

5 years ago today, Gaga released the lead single off her 5th studio album Joanne. 'Perfect Illusion' was unlike anything she'd released before (and anything else really on the album) and it divided fans more than ever.

5 years on, what are your opinions on the single?

This isn't my favourite single of hers :'( It's a very fun and explosive song but as a single, it's not the one. It should have stayed a stand out album track on Joanne and she shouldn't have opened the era with it when it doesn't represent the album as well as some of the other songs. I enjoy it when I listen to the album in full, but amongst her other singles, it's low down! Better than 'Applause' though amiright, whoswithme? x

I grew to really love the song more in the months after its release (that key change though), however I can totally see why it wasn't a hit.

I genuinely thought she was over at this point this was released, the way she's pulled it back since has seriously amazed/impressed me.

A grower! Like said, it wasn't the perfect 1st single, but it introduced the rock/country/folk/indie etc Gaga with a bang. So explosive!

Never!

She had Sinner's Prayer on the album, Perfect Illusion shouldn't even have been on the album to begin with, it doesn't fit Joanne at all.

Plus its the video is a total mess (just like all the videos from that era)

Sinner's Prayer hasn't anything "bang" in it. I just love how aggressive but sad at the same time PI is

This is exactly what we call mental confusion, this wasn't the time to externalize the problems of her personal life with her professional career. It's her art but we must know how to separate things, because when mixing, it never works (we all know she wrote this song about Taylor K., even though she denies it).

I refuse to play this mess. Did she really dump RedOne to come back with that?
