*** arrives uninvited into Sports Forum ***

Hello. I was driving home from work tonight when I heard the end of a story on a Scottish Radio station. I think they were saying that the British Olympic Association has decided that there will be a GB Football Team in the 2012 Olympics.

But apparently the SFA are going ballistic, want no part of this and refused to discuss things with the BOA. But the BOA said they were going ahead with the idea anyway, even if no fans turned up.

Not sure what the Welsh. N. Irish are saying.

Then they started interviewing people on the Glasgow 'Street' who said no way were they supporting a GB Football Team and only English players would be picked for the Team anyway. Then some politician said something I didn't quite understand.

Then some Scottish football person said that if this went ahead FIFA would see it as the green light to disband separate UK Teams in World Cups etc.

But I missed the beginning so ain't sure of much. :P

Does anybody know anything about this?

I don't actually know tbh. I mean no disrespect to Scottish, Welsh or Irish players though but on the majority the English players are better and would more likely get into the GB team so I can see why there playing war.

I think this is just gonna be a one off though for the Olympics when they come to London.

Oh the Scottish in a strop AGAIN because they're not as good at football? It has to stop asap. -_- Not that it will, but it should.
it is just the english and northen irish that are for it, Scottish and Welsh against it. So it will mainly be the England team unless there is a dramatic change in fortune for the N.Irish team in the next 5 or 6 years.
It would be good imo, although it would just be English players...

the Olympic team is for U23's anyway so there'd be no Rooney, Walcott, Lennon etc.

FIFA have supported the idea as a one off. And if the different FA's got their heads out of their backsides, i'm sure there would be a limit to the number of players from each country who could be selected anyway.
