The thing with Important though is that it had a HUGE following from plug which meant it got instant attention and guaranteed points, which is a leg up no other song had in that contest. I'm sure it did have wider appeal than just those that heard it on plug but nonetheless, it's an unfair advantage that it had, and that's why this rule is in place!

And that's how rules work across the world. You take the F1 rule book and it's full of obscure rules to prevent situation X happening again. FINA banned a whole host of racing suits over concerns about records, they've continued to fall but now there's no doubt about if it's the swimmers skill or a trick suit that's lead to it.

one instance can be enough for change tho plus the culture of extreme pre-hype that pretty much all of us were guilty of that was developing was gross - it wasn't just off the back of important, it's just that that one was SO easy to prove

I understood your post fine, and I never said any "plugusers" got a significant headstart post-Importantgate, but that incident was enough to eventually bring in a rule like this I expect. The mods explained everything though when the rule got introduced did they not?

I've been angling to bring in this rule for years before Important was ever a thing. Probably been 4/5 years in the making, it's not down to one event but a culmination of many and a gradual culture change to something that really just doesn't sit well with us.
