It's more the tone in which you explained yourself rather than the explanation itself :P Besides, I had explained a few times before!

My tone was no different from usual

That's alright then, I must've misunderstood :P I edited something to the bottom of my post but you must've quoted it before, so I actually am leaving it now :heehee:

It's not what you said, it's how you said it -_-

I wanna say something about hyping a song after a quick glance of the semis:

There are songs that people have discovered prior to the contest. There's always going to be a non-discovery for someone. Last contest it was "Ingrid Is A Hybrid", "Gee" and the entire top 3 for most, and to a lesser extent "Bang" and "Samurai Swords". Banning hype mere minutes after the semis open is like governing how people express that they like the song.

Just caught this thread, haven't read it all fully but just want to add my 2 cents~

I'll openly admit i've had a fair few issues with this framework and how it's implemented in the past few months in particular. The reason for this isn't because it's necessarily flawed but more because it tallies up the wrong things. A song should be vetoed if it is likely to be known by a large number of posters already and not because of how it performed in one random European country many moons ago. If the mods could try to remember this when making their decision I think the veto process would be improved vastly. The worst month for this was when a song top 50 on Spotify's global chart was allowed in, but another song, whose album did well in some European country was vetoed - it made me realise that it was a bit of a farce at times and went against everything that the contest is about - allowing people to discover new music - that absolutely can't be forgotten by the mods no matter how much you might personally want to veto a song (if only one or two people will have heard it let it pass!).

These are sure to have been said countless times but SPOTIFY / less of a focus on if a song is top 75 in another country are the main two that need adding and/or changing. But in my opinion a general change of attitude to the music that people are trying to share needs to happen - not be more relaxed but understand the level to which Buzzjack posters will have come into contact with a song and as Mods of the site who should know the make-up of it and its listeners well, I think that is very achievable!

This is not a rant, I promise it's just me airing my views!

I'd be wholly against AQs for anyone other than the winner as a reward for winning. We only give it to the runner up because I'm allergic to uneven semi finals.

What if we did, BEAR WITH ME, a fair random draw (the host assigns the numbers and someone else picks out a number at random) for the 2nd AQ out of all the participants if we have an even number of participants? It would be so much fun!

Omg yes!!!

The whole point of this contest is to share music you love and the anniversary gives you a chance to send a track you truly love by an artist you worship. It will get its own framework to tighten it up but the aim will be to give people a chance to show off their faves in a new light.

My 50th was a William Orbit track that featured Sugababes and was unknown to all outside the most hardcore of Sugababes fans. That's the perfect type of song that should be sent as an anniversary entry. It means a lot to me and it's still a discovery to even Sugababes fans.

And this isn't creating two classes of contestants as its open to everyone and the milestones get further apart as you go up. So it's 50, 100 then 250. If someone is here for 5 years or a decade then we should do something to mark that commitment. Even if it is small like this is.

I agree, it's not as if an old track not known to most people is actually likely to WIN BJSC (has any ever done that?) but it's an opportunity to share the love a bit, hopefully. When/if I pick mine, it'll be one that most won't know, even if I opted for Abba B-)

That can be subjected to corruption as the trust has to lie solely on the host to announce the correct AQer from the assigned number, but on the other hand they can also announce the country whom they wish to AQ instead and disregard the entire selection process.

What about uploading a password-locked archive with the assigned list inside before the other person (a MOD to make it less potentially corrupt (i guess silas is out then~~)) picks the number?

And no one can AQ two times in a row, or something.

May sound overly complicated but it's not. We'll have our own lottery *.*

It's never been forgotten by us, I bang on about it often enough!

Pre-framework we used our judgement solely and the only reason we have such a rigid framework is because we were told in no uncertain terms that we couldn't be trusted to boil a kettle. We've ended up over the past three years trying to make our camel more horse-like in what can be quite a hostile and paranoid environment at times.

The big change we will make is that our judgement will come back into play and the framework will become more flexible while retaining a rigid core.

One thing I really want to take up as a general point tho, as it's been thrown at us quite a lot lately, is that these aren't some pure random countries we've picked out for the framework here. Actual thought went into this and the impact on the global music markets that these nations have. It's all about gauging how well known something is and what's smashing through so picking off the obvious winners. (as the veto has more than one string to it's bow)

UK, USA, Germany & France are all major music markets. Germany is a very good indicator of things that are taking off across the continent and if a non-French artist is charting in France then that shit's exploding because it's a tough market for an outsider to crack (A very common theme among basically every French sales ranking, not just music)

Sweden, Denmark and Norway are hit because the contest has a strong Scandi contingent and a lot of entries do tend to come from Scandinavia. They also have a wide ranging taste musically so you tend to be able to pick out songs from a more niche genre that have crossed over very easily

Japan & Korea are on the chart to pick off the cheap J-pop and K-pop tracks that otherwise fall through the cracks

Australia, Canada and New Zealand are the final trio. Canada tends to replicate it's pal the USA very well and is a reasonable indicator for what could be about to break into the mainstream across the border. Aus&NZ are both there for two reasons. 1) It hits the Auspop crew because a really good local artist tends to obliterate BJSC and 2) Because of Lady Gaga. Last one sounds strange, but her global journey to fame started out there because it's a fairly big market that is actually really easy to break into (unless you're an Aussie). It also, for various colonial and dodgy immigration policy reasons, tends to be very in line with the UK musically and a strong indicator of what will do well in the UK, USA, and the med (lots of Greeks and Italians)

I hope that helps at least explain why it's these countries we pick on and that actual logic went into it.

make it less potentially corrupt (i guess silas is out then~~))

You're the Russian!! Didn't you get the memo? I'm :hitler: so not corrupt in anyway, just a bit murdery and evil.

New Framework is coming before XCI.

Based on this thread the following changes were made:

- Spotify has been added

- More emphasis has been placed on the song rather than the artist

- Past chart performance of the song has been altered to be more tiered and the impact somewhat reduced

- Capital FM has been added

- Featured Artists that are not primary vocalist or have a material impact on the track will receive reduced veto points

- Moderator discretion has been reintroduced

- Anniversary Framework

Final framework is still subject to final mod sign off before it is published, but this should be shortly
