Posted August 16, 20168 yr I am just wondering what are your favourite years for dance music? Mine are 2004 to 2006 for house (chilled like LMC and U2 and Deepest Blue/Deep Dish and the disco house from the likes of The Shapeshifters too) and 2011 to 2012 for the excellent dubstep and drum and bass that was around.
August 16, 20168 yr 1987 to 2003 are pretty flawless throughout, with particular emphasis on 1991-92 (rave's peak) and 1999-2003 (trance's peak). To narrow it down further, I'd probably start around August 1986 - the week Farley Jackmaster Funk's 'Love Can't Turn Around' first appears - up to around November 2003 or so.

Most of 2003 wasn't trance though, there were a couple of trance songs, but it was mostly eurodance and house... Yes 2002 was a good year, I remember ice skating while the imposing trance tunes were playing with Kelly Llorenna's cover of Tell It To My Heart a particularly well remembered one. Speaking of rave, there is an isolated rave tune in early 2005 which made the top 40 - Commander Tom - Attention by the way which is weird.
August 16, 20168 yr 2005 is my personal favourite as it was the year I truly got into dance music and was engrossed in the greatest hits from The Prodigy, Faithless and Basement Jaxx (classiques *.*). Also very much a fan of the early 90s years of rave and house! 2011-2012 is also a good one for the proper resurgence of house music and the Dubstep years will always be a big love of mine.

Dubstep was great, and early electronic trap too - Hudson Mohawke - Thunder Bay and Baauer, Just Blaze and Jay Z - Higher. Trap became too commercialised after that. Guilt by Nero was a great dubstep tune as was Sway - Still Speedin ( the instrumental was a dubstep remix of Ride On Time). Friction - Led Astray and Everyday by Rusko didnt make the chart but were great too.
August 17, 20168 yr 1997-2002 is my favorite era. 1993-1996 comes in 2nd. Living in Europe, 2003 was still very much a trance year, less so in the UK where it was a transition year. It was definitely a fall in quality though that's why I dont include it in my favorite era. My least favorite year was 2005, abysmal. Cheesy repetitive looped house tracks and scouse house. 2009-2011 was a very good period for resurgeance of dance music under the EDM tag, but it didn't last long to me as soon after they would all sound the same.
