Reigning champions have announced details on their selection process for a contest still without a host city :')

Even though the host city of the 2017 Eurovision Song Contest in Ukraine is still a mystery, the host country is getting ready to choose who will wave the blue and yellow flag after Jamala. The private TV channel STB in collaboration with the public broadcaster NTU will be organising the Ukrainian national selection together like they did last year. The grand final which will determinate who will be following Jamala’s steps to get Ukraine the victory again will be held on February.

Last year NTU and STB decided to join forces for the upcoming three years to do a joint broadcast of the Ukrainian national selection for Eurovision. The private broadcaster is in charge of the biggest talent shows in Ukraine such as Got Talent and X Factor. The shows will be broadcast on both channels and the costs will be split.

As of today, September 1st, all interested artists who want to take part in the competition can submit their applications through the platform STB has set on their website. The online selection, which is new this year, will be open until January 10th, when the profiles of the candidates will be published on the STB website and visitors will be able to vote for their favourites. The winner of the online vote will have the same rights as a semifinal winner.

However, the bulk of the previous stages to the final will happen in the auditions that will take place in Ukraine’s main six cities (Kyiv, Kharkiv, Dnipro, Odessa, Lviv and Zaporizhia). The qualifiers will be announced by January 31st. The next stage will consist of qualifying rounds or semifinals –a similar approach to last year’s selection process- to decide which contestants make it to the grand final.

This grand final which will have up to 12 finalists with the winner of the online voting, will foreseeably kick off the last week of February, and like all the previous shows will be broadcast on STB and UA Pershiy.

Ukraine managed to score their second victory last year in Stockholm with Jamala and the song 1944:

Surely The Hardkiss are going to be there or thereabouts, apparently they have been working on songs for Eurovision 2017 for months now and they certainly have the fanbase and the talent. They would be a fantastic home entry and with the right song - although you could say this about anyone - could give Ukraine yet another top 5 finish.
Grammatically quite a :') title but groovy nonetheless

No Hardkiss :o

The lead singer of The Hardkiss (Yulia?) posted a YouTube video a couple of months ago explaining that they wouldn't be entering in 2017 after all and will be going on tour instead. It's a shame but hopefully next year will be their year!

The first heat in Ukraine is tomorrow night from 6pm CET (5pm UK), so a good warm-up before the night's main event!

2 songs from the 8 will progress to the final in 3 weeks time and luckily, there's 2 great songs in studio form here! The first being the fabulous song by Tayanna which Lex posted above, and this Sam & The Womp inspired bop:

YouTube streaming link for tonight's heat is here. The results will be in a separate show which is after Melodifestivalen. Special guests tonight include NAVIBAND (Belarus) and Tako Gachechiladze (Georgia) who will perform their Eurovision entries.

This is the (I might add, utterly sensational) Tayanna perf from the semi

Are we absolutely sure she's not Iveta Mukuchyan's cousin?

Natsionalnyi Vidbir

25th February 2017
Begins at 5pm in the UK, 6pm Central European Time or 7pm in Ukraine
The first of two shows is scheduled to last 2 hours 20 minutes. Then after a break of 1 hour 10 minutes, the second show will apparently last 2 hours 50 minutes.

Watch the selection via the
.

Running order
01. Salto Nazad - O, mamo!
02. Melovin - Wonder
03. O.Torvald - Time
04. Illaria - Thank You For My Way
05. Tayanna - I Love You
06. Rozhden - Saturn

Voting format
The winner will be chosen via a 50/50 split between televoting and jury voting. Each will award a set of 6 to 1 points and the artist with the most points when the two are added together will be the winner. In the event of a tie the televote will take precedence.

The favourites to win
Tayanna and Illaria both won their semi-finals with 15 points each, the other semi-final winner O.Torvald only scored 14 points. You would assume the winner would be one of these three as they have already beaten the other three in their respective semi-finals. Tayanna gained the highest televote percentage of anyone in all three semi-finals when she won her semi-final.
Tayanna has just won the jury vote with O.Torvald in second place. As Tayanna won the public vote in her heat by a large margin I'm optimistic that she'll do well with the public again tonight. Fingers crossed!

Melovin wins the public vote, with O.Torvard second and Tayanna only third.

I think the public vote takes precedence in a tie, so O.Tovard have won.

so what's up with Ukraine sending male acts only for contests where there are no semi-finals or they don't have to participate in them?

This could stand out in the sea of ballads, some of which are sure to qualify. And that breakdown towards the end is quite steamy. Low Top 20 overall though.
