edit: since it's an instrumental contest i imagine there will be some longer tracks but what is the longest you'll accept? i'm trying to shoot for 7 minutes which seems ok?

there's usually no limit! we recently had a 10-and-a-half minute instrumental qualify to the final of a main BJSC and we have an 8 minute entry in this month's final so we're kinda used to long songs now

I'm already getting excited based on what people are describing. I want to get into more post-rock so BJSC entries of that would be very helpful and I can always use more epic LOTR-esque tunes in my life.

I might enter something not dance! I also have a couple of dance ideas but I think non-dance would be more interesting!

I can't wait to see the hissy fits (espesh in the plug sessions) when people send in lengthy songs :')

Yeah there's always some success for mysterious/fantasy-type (not Sokko and Alexa Lusader, I mean the genre) songs, as we saw with Monody and now Scope.

I tried looking for more of Sokko's music but iirc what I found weren't all that amaze.

 

I have a lot of instrumentals in my library but I haven't really put them into a category etc. so it'll be hard to listen to them all and decide from there but I'm still going with the potential I described above :)

No issues at all with a 7 minute track. A plug.dj session for this, if there even is one, may be an interesting one if lots of people go down the long song route but by all means go for it!

 

(and tbh a 22 minute post-rock track sounds like something I'd enjoy lmao but yes that might be a BIT excessive)

there's plenty of instrumentals that are of normal song length presumably? i'm not expecting loads of 7 minute entries though there may be more of those than usual.

I'd say that's fine! Cos that's kind of more using a voice as an instrument rather than having vocals.

yeah i have another track i'm considering that's about 5 minutes but is just regular old rock. it's just that post-rock tracks tend to be on the lengthy side so i thought i'd ask, but my first choice rn is just the perfect length i think.
